in next 6 months, 5 million Nexus 7 tablets vs 34 million iPads?

Re: in next 6 months, 5 million Nexus 7 tablets vs 34 million iPa

The Nexus 7 just lacks the pure level of content that came out with the Kindle Fire. Amazon is far larger and has far more to it than Google does at this time. Even with that being said. It's an Android Device, meaning that there really isn't a limit to what can be done with it. There are bound to be countless ROM's, RUU's, and other goodies. Esp with people getting it to the point where you can use a flash drive and expand your memory.

Apple, is just so easy and simple to use. It has a mass appeal. Android, is more for the tech lovers or people who just want a little extra play room. Sadly, this isn't a vast majority of people. I think the Nexus 7 will sell to those who will truly appreciate what they have. I feel as if most people who have a iPad or iPhone, don't truly understand what they are doing or how things work. They just know it does. While Android fans, know what they are doing, how it works, and how to make it better.

I find it interesting that people keep claiming that Amazon and Apple have a significant lead in content internationally. From listening to the various Mobile Nations podcasts that is not the impression I get. It seems that they all struggle with content(music and video) internationally, and that if Google were to get it completely figured out before the other's they would have the advantage.

You're kidding right? We only got movies on the Play store here in Canada a few months ago.

And there's still no Google Music. And we're next door. Here's what's funny. I used the Tor browser to sign up for Google Music. But I have to buy my music from iTunes or Amazon instead of Google.

Even with the Nexus 7 launch, Google still has not committed to offering magazines and TV shows elsewhere yet. Their movie selection still sucks too.

Say what you will about iTunes, but it helps sell Apple gear to the muggles. Google ignores this fact at their own peril. That's one fact I admire about Apple. When they launch a service, it's usually across half the world. Google is still struggling to offer paid apps in some big markets, let alone media content.

This.

And honestly, I don't blame Apple fans. Tech should be easy to use. Apple makes it simply painless to use their stuff. The average person doesn't have the time or interest to futz around with their kit.

Even now, if I know a person is not all that geek/nerd/tech inclined, I'll tell them to buy an iPhone, if they ask me what I think they should get. Android is great for me, but even I get frustrated with apps that don't work, a broken update cycle (still have seen nothing on my Galaxy Nexus...not a single update since I purchased it in Feb. due to a different build), terrible customer support, etc. And no, telling a person they should just root is not a solution.

You can criticize Apple users for being "dumb". But I think of phones as the new cars. Remember when lots of people tinkered with their own cars? How many of us could fix our own cars today? And how many would buy a car specifically because it's upgradeable or easily modified?

Google has a long way to go. They've got to start becoming as customer-centric as Apple if they ever want to compete.

Apple locked it down, I don't know how much licensing deals Amazon struck down out side of the states, and Google has not done much further than US and UK.

Sorry to those in Canada, but Canada market isn't big enough yet companies to strike the license deals right away. Physical locations doesn't ,matter. Even Canada is right next US, Google has to ink another deal with every label and motion picture to have their contents in the play store / music.

US, Japan, and then UK is the top three market. Popularity of internet made the world much smaller yet company structures and laws are lagging behind. Same Universal music company, but Google, Apple, and whoever needs contents need to strike a deal in every country.

Spotify, Pandora, 7digital, and goes on.... reason why every service has different coverages. Apple being a first in the market got the most deal being done.

Apple's ecosystem is extremely easy to use. Much easier to manage than play store. Android needs something central like iTunes (amazon figured it out but not playing very well with other android devices, GIVE ME PRIME VIDEO!!!) to compete with Apple.

Give Android a bit more time to figure it out. As everything goes cloud, Google is a bit more front than Apple as of now. The market is changing extremely fast. Let's wait and see how things will turn around.

Keith,

I'm not disagreeing with you at all, and acknowledge that Apple currently has the lead internationally, but even they don't yet have everything. I know it is lots and Apple keeps delivering more all the time, but that doesn't mean that Google can't get it figured out on a large scale or Amazon can't get it more figured out. In some ways, I imagine that Google doesn't care whether Amazon figures it out completely first,Google would still benefit as Amazon doesn't really care how their content is delivered, just that it is paid for.

Apple has another HUGE leg up which didnt hit me until just now when I learned my daughter was getting an ipad next year for school. Institutions buy those things in droves.

As much as I feel tabs are a toy, the ipad has enough development and accessories to place it in productivity land too.
