Incoming notifications wont display

When I get an incoming text or notification, the screen stays dark and I have to press the center button to display it. These notifications used to just light up the screen when they came in. How do I get notifications to just light up without having to press Tue center button to view them?

Gear Manager->Notifications->Uncheck 'Keep screen off'.
