Incoming ringer/notifications suddenly sound digitally distorted

[Android Central Question]

My dad has a Samsung J3. It was working normally until he went to a concert the other day, but now when he gets an audible notification(email, text, etc.), or someone calls him, the ringtone and or notification sound is very distorted. It doesn't sound like crackling as if it were a blown speaker, it definitely sounds like digital distortion. He said it was working fine before the concert. He used the phone to record some videos while there and it was LOUD. He noticed the problem as soon as he left. What's interesting though is that when he receives calls, the person on the other end sounds fine, even on speaker. Even when he plays videos, the audio sounds normal. He can even play the ringtone on his phone and it sounds normal. It's only when he gets an incoming call or an audible notification that it becomes distorted. Any help would be much appreciated
