Initial impression was disappointment

After waiting so long to get my tablet, I was very disappointed with the display after first turning it on. All the colors were washed out even with adjusting the brightness to a very low level. As I tried it out, it seemed to improve. I turned it off to charge for a while and rebooting initially gave me again a milky appearance. Today, after charging overnight, the display is BEAUTIFUL!!! I am now a happy camper. As I get use to its operation, the more I like it.

i read somewhere that the sceen needs to warm up to achieve full beauty. Some were more picky than others. I think its great and havn't noticed any issues

Try playing a video like the Transformers movie and see what happens. I'm curious because the display quality seems to go to crap again after playing videos for some people.

Mine looked a little bland at first, but since it looks great. I've seen nicer screens no doubt, but its still a nice screen overall for me.

I see zero display issues. The colors are just fine - very colorful but not over saturated so the graphics don't get that stupid "cartoony" look that a lot of AMOLED displays yield.

Viewing angles are superb and as far as pixels go this thing looks just as "retina" as my New iPad.

I think the screen actually looks more washed out below 50% brightness than it does above. Put it around 55% brightness and I think you'll enjoy it more.

I swear some of you just make sh$# up. I have one for myself then brought one for my girl and have not had a issue at ALL. I think some of you just bitc$ to bitc$!

I still find that after it wakes up it still takes quite a long time to obtain full richness of colors. If others don't experience this maybe I should swap it out after the stock becomes normal. Since I live only 10 minutes from Google, I hope they have some local stock.

Sorry I'm calling BS on that. I have both right now and the n7 is nowhere as retina as my iPad. It's so obvious that you have to be a fanboy to not admit that. Small text rendering totally sucks on N7, it's no better than the Galaxy Tab 2 on that front.

Fine, I can "call BS" right back.

I have both so it's easy to put them next to each other. And in the "retina" area there is really no discernible difference. For the Nexus 7 that works out to its being Retina at distances of 15+ inches. And for a tablet that is perfect - you don't hold a tablet up at your nose.

I have been reading small text on the Nexus 7 regularly since it arrived yesterday, and not a hint of jagged edges or pixeling. I've seen Samsung's tablet displays and they're nice but like I said the Super AMOLED can lead to things looking cartoony - I much prefer the way the Nexus screen is rendering the colors.

I'm not impressed with washed out look it has. A friend came and took a look at the nexus 7 played around with it for a bit... Then finally asked me if I dropped it or laid on it. He didn't like the washed out look of the screen. My Nexus 7 scree also looks bulged from the center too.

I will be sending mine back as I'm not impressed. My plans was to use this when traveling to watch netflix or my converted movies.

Maybe you should exchange it - potential lemon.

Mine does not look in any way washed out and there is no hint of bulging; everything is nice and flat and tight. I've been watching both Netflix and Google Play films tonight on it (they actually have the old Yul Brynner SciFi film The Ultimate Warrior) and it looks just fine.

We have two here with superior picture quality compared to say the Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1.Especially when viewing HD video on YouTube! :-)
