Inspire Owners - Please Introduce Yourselves

Where you're from: Detroit, MI (well, the suburbs as nobody actually lives in Detroit)

You're profession: IT Management

Smartphone phone history: Oh my... early Windoze phones, 5 BB's or so, iPhone 4, various Androids..

The phone you are or have switched from: BB 9800 (Torch)

What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? Screen, form factor.

Any disappointments? Battery life, lack of built-in notes and password keeper apps (used these constantly on the BBs).

And anything else you can think of. Overall a solid device at an outstanding price with a couple shortcomings. I'm still waiting for that Android device that can communicate like a BB with all day battery life. I hope I see it in my lifetime.

Where you're from: Twin Cities, MN

Your profession: Legislative assistant

Smartphone phone history: iPhone, iPhone 3GS, HTC Inspire
I have a much longer history with PDAs than smartphones, starting with a couple of Sharp Wizards way back when, a couple of Palms, and a couple of Sony Clies.

The phone you are or have switched from: iPhone 3GS

What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? This is about Android in general, but I love not being tied to my computer nearly as much for simple things like updating podcasts. About the Inspire in particular, I'm pretty impressed by the camera.

Any disappointments? Maybe the battery, but I knew what I was getting into beforehand. I've always kept a spare charger at work and a car charger for my iPhones even though I didn't need them, and I'll do the same for this phone. My only concern is when I'm away from home for an extended period, like this weekend when I'm going to a 24-hour best picture showcase thing at a local AMC theater, but maybe I'll just shut it off completely during movies and bring the charger just in case I find someplace to plug it in between movies.

And anything else you can think of. I still have a lot to learn about the Android world in general. I did some reading up before deciding to switch, but maybe not enough! What I find most interesting, though, is that is some ways this reminds me a lot of how it was working with my Palm OS devices, in particular the Sony Clies, which used Memory Sticks where'd you have to manage content between the device and the stick. I kind of feel like I've arrived back home, as much as I loved my iPhones.

Where you're from: Northeast Mississippi

You're profession: X-Ray/CT Technologist

Smartphone phone history:Iphone 3g

The phone you are or have switched from: Iphone 3g

What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? So far Android OS, and the weight/size. It has a good feel to me and I am liking Sense so far.

Any disappointments? No complaints, I just need to get over the learning curve to get up to full speed on Android, but I am loving it.:D

You're profession: Security Officer, who HATES confrontation :/

Smartphone phone history: BB 8320, 8120, 9000, 8900, 9700..Iphone 3g, Iphone 4..and now the Inspire

The phone you are or have switched from: Iphone 4

What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? I don't think i have a favorite thing

Any disappointments?
The auto focus on the camera...the Iphone 4 spoiled me in that aspect :(

I do love this phone...i knew i would be happy with android..i just needed a good high end phone and of course it had to be HTC...

Where you're from: Charlotte, NC

Your profession: Creative Director

Smartphone phone history: Moto Razr, Samsung Blackjack, iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, HTC Evo, iPhone 4

The phone you are or have switched from: iPhone 4

What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? Build quality is impressive- also after a long relationship with iOS, I just find myself preferring the customizability of Android. Notifications are very important to me as I am in meetings 2-3 hours of every day.

Any disappointments? No. I've optimized my settings and I'm getting a decent battery unlike many. Single core seems perfectly suited for the phone. Faster than my Evo.

And anything else you can think of: Like many, I have much to learn with Android. The Inspire is a great phone.

What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? The screen size and HTC sense and the htcsense.com feature backing up my information.

Any disappointments? i have to charge this thing all the time, I use it as a work phone, so there are days that i don't even use it and it still drains alot of battery.

Where you're from: I'm from Upper Darby, PA
You're profession: I manage a pizza shop/restaurant in North Philadelphia
Smartphone phone history: BlackBerry Pearl 8110/BlackBerry Curve 8310/iPhone 3G/BlackBerry Bold 9000/iPhone 3GS/Samsung Captivate/HTC Inspire 4G
The phone you are or have switched from: I bought the Inspire on its release date. I switched from the Samsung Captivate
What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? It's more customizable than the Samsung, and it also runs much smoother. It feels more robust. No lag in it at all.
Any disappointments? Can't stand the fact that I can't send a video that is more than 5 seconds in an mms. Camera bezel seems to be loose. I hear a rattle whenever I play music over the speaker, or when the phone rings

I suggest you exchange your phone if it rattles like that, as you're going to have it for another year or more. Might not be bad now but after a year of use it will probably be a very noticeable problem

Hello.

Where you're from: Los Angeles, CA

Smartphone phone history: Nokia (old school ones from the early 90s), LX400, Blackberry Curve, Blackberry Tour 9630)

The phone you are or have switched from: Blackberry Tour 9630

What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? The Huge Clock on the front

Any disappointments? I used it on full charge for about 1 hour on and off texting friends and stuff...and the phone died by midday :(

Overall I am really happy with the phone. I got tired of Blackberry and their outdated technology and using HTC is like a breath of fresh air. Its so smooth, the pictures crisp, the video crisp and its just so cool haha I really like this phone and so far the only thing I am troubled with is how quuuickly the battery dies. If it dies so quick on me when I just text I can imagine how much quicker it does when I use an app for extensive period of time.
Oh and I LOVE the notification bar.

oh yeah...the Volume for all my notifications is all the way up and even then they all sound reaaaaaaally low...I can live with it but its bound to become an issue when I dont have my phone next to me...

You're profession: Stay home dad "retired" Help desk agent
Smartphone phone history:Palm Centro, Palm Pre, HTC Hero, Samsung Moment Samsung Captivate and now Inspire
The phone you are or have switched from:Former Captivate Victim
What's your favorite feature about the Inspire?Out of the box the phone is amazingly fast and stable, the GPS works
Any disappointments?Battery life is bad unless you go in and tweak sync times. HTC syncs way too often by default.
And anything else you can think of. I can't code my way out of a paper bag but I love tinkering.

Where you're from: Orlando, Florida

You're profession: Broadcast IT Engineer

Smartphone phone history: T-Mobile MDA, iPhone 3G, and now the Inspire.

The phone you are or have switched from: iPhone 3G.

What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? The 4.3" screen, build quality, camera, access point, and speed.

Any disappointments? Battery life

And anything else you can think of. I have been with AT&T for about 5 years and I have no problem with them. I love smartphones and especially my Inspire. I'm looking forward to rooting it.

Where you're from: Interlochen, MI

You're profession: Kitchen Designer

Smartphone phone history: Nope, this is it, my first smart phone. For some reason I have until just in the last year been avoiding feeling the need for trading up to a smart phone. I finally decided that I couldn't live without one any more. I did have an assortment of Windows CE PDA's back in the day though.

The phone you are or have switched from: A POS Pantech Impact. Hated.that.phone!! Got stuck with it after my Motorola Karma (which I really liked) died due to a potty swimming accident. A number of dumber and dumber phones from before those.

What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? I guess I will give you a run down of a few of the reasons I chose it as I haven't had a chance to actually use it. I like the design and the screen size. I appreciate HTC' s reputation. I wanted something fast, reliable and frankly not too crazy expensive. I seriously considered the Motorola Atrix but after all of the reviews I decided that it didn't wow me enough to sacrifice the cost, the build quality and frankly I am hoping that with HTC I might have a slightly better time of getting OS upgrades at some point.

Any disappointments? That it hasn't gotten here yet!?! ;) I suspect that battery performance may end up being an issue.

And anything else you can think of.
Nope, not really.

Where you're from: Hawaii :)

You're profession: nursery technician.

Smartphone phone history: smartphone noob. My first smart phone was a Palm pre plus for AT&.T all previous phones were feature phones

The phone you are or have switched from: palm pre plus. Great phone. WebOS is awesome. But I just couldn't wait for HP to play catch up with hardware. And battery life was just atrocious. Battery would drain at a rate of 10-20% per hour depending on my usage.

What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? Huge screen, better battery life then my pre, excellent camera, great apps, beautiful design.

No disappointments so far. Hopefully i don't have any for a while.

As a new android user I'm still getting used to all of of this but so far I'm loving the experience. Love all the customization options and how open everything is. Once I'm comfortable enough maybe ill start experimenting with rooting my phone. :)

How's it going. My first Android and first post! I'm from Texas and am a police officer. My first smartphone was the old school blackberry curve (hated it) and then the iPhone 3g and iPhone 4. While the iPhone is great it liked any customization and personalization. I had jailbroken it to do anything interesting. I love this phone. It's great. The screen is amazing. At first I thought it might be too big but its perfect. I've always followed Android central for a.while along with Tipb and now I have finally made the switch. The only disappointment is that the volume is really low but its something I'll look past. For everything else this phone offers it is a minor nuisance that I can look over.

I've also realized I can type much much better and faster on this phone. And the auto correct is amazing. I hope to make many more post here and learn all I can about the world of Android.

Where you're from: Washington, DC
You're profession: Student
Smartphone phone history: Blackberry Curve 8310 (loved it), iPhone 3G (pretty good overall until I broke it)
The phone you are or have switched from: Flip phone from when AT&T was Cingular a few years ago, used it for a year and then got a new phone.
What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? Too many to list, way faster than the iPhone 3G I had, great hardware, great internet browser, (more) open app market, widgets, home screen layouts
Any disappointments? The Atrix came out right after, wanted to switch but figured I liked this phone too much to warrant it. I wish it was a true "4G" phone and I need to get used to having to charge the battery every night (one thing I liked about the flip phone)
And anything else you can think of: Always been into technology, I'm really excited to play with this phone. I'm probably going to root it eventually, but I need a spare MicroSD card first so I have to wait until I can afford it.

Where you're from: Arkansas

You're profession: Law enforcement

Smartphone phone history: Motorola 710, Cingular 8125, Cingular 8525, Samsung Blackjack, Blackberry Curve 8310, Blackberry Bold 9000, Iphone 3G, Blackberry Bold 9700, iPhone 3GS, HTC Nexus One, Blackberry Torch, HTC Aria, Samsung Captivate, Motorola Droid 2, Motorola Droid X, HTC Inspire

The phone you are or have switched from: Droid X

What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? HTC Sense, Speed, Form Factor

Any disappointments? Battery a little bit, its been better than what I thought it would be. Volume of speaker and notifications.

Where you're from: Charlotte NC
Your profession: Programmer
Smartphone phone history: Smartphone newbie despite having a BlackJack II previously. Mostly flip phones from Cingular in the past
The phone you are or have switched from: BlackJack II - rarely used its smartphony features.
What's your favorite feature about the Inspire? Presentation and ability to personalize. Several others at a secondary level.
Any disappointments? Power. Only getting 8 hours on a full charge. I find contact management (that is, from different sources) cryptic and sometime unresponsive to simple requirements. The 4G BS is Big Business with the Big Lie once again - just because its somewhat faster than 3G isn't 4G compliant.
And anything else you can think of. Despite the complaints its easily the best phone I've had, and the price was right!
