I've got an Inspire 4G that will boot up, you can maybe open up the app drawer or something for a few seconds before it completely turns itself off (not a reboot). This does not occur when the phone is on the charger though. I have checked the battery levels as well as the connection and they are fine. I just did a factory reset back to stock (not even rooted) Android 2.3 and am still having this issue.

Any ideas? :'(:(:'(

Sounds like the battery is dying, no matter what voltage it is reporting. Sometimes batteries can fail in a manner where they can provide unladen voltage but fall apart when loaded. Replacements are cheap off eBay.

Looking at my battery go sideways time to invest into an extended battery :)

Definitely a bad battery. I don't recommend buying a generic replacement. Spend a little more and get an Anker or Seidio.

I was actually looking at a seidio extended but with my contract up in January I mite just stuff it out till ces

Not so sure its the battery. I have the same problem and a new battery didn't solve it. I've rooted the phone as well to no avail...If new battery works, please let me know.

I may have a solution for you. Like I said, I have the same problem with my Inspire (see the post above yours). Here's a response I got from another forum member...

its a hardware problem I'm thinking mite be the. Voltage controller?? I'm not to sure but you can try this being its rooted install clockwork mod off rom manager. Turn off the phone volume down power button wait for the h boot to pop up use the lol key to toggle and the power button to select. Go to recovery it'll go to clock work mod toggle down to advanced and find delete battery stats delete them and reboot good luck.

Hope he doesn't mind me commandeering his response...LOL..Good Luck!
