Install .apk files from a computer?

Hi I have an HTC One and I have a .apk file on my computer that I want installed on my phone. I don't know how to use the sync manager to do this, or if that's even how I do it.

No it was a theme that the developer took off the app store, but was still offering on his blog. I actually got it to work using app installer on my phone, I'd just never used it and was lead to believe it only worked with SD cards. But not the case thanks

It works if you just download it, and tap on it. Android will automatically install it. You might have to allow installation of apps from unknown sources. Remember to stay with safe places like Google Play or Amazon as .apks are known for containing malicious content. Only install them if the source is well known and trusted.
