[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Anyone would like an unlimited line? (at a small cost) :)

You are aware that the line would have to stay in YOUR name because any transfer of liability destroys udp?

Unless the policy has changed from November, this is not true.

Interesting,I worked there for six years and I've been gone for two, this was one of the pain points of the transition to tiered plans

Assumption of liability, that is how this should be possible.

I would definitely be interested to see this play out

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

AOL works well and I assumed 2 UDP lines in November. It was pretty slick, once the other party authorized me to assume the lines. However, in my experience, each time I haven taken over lines, the AOL department will transfer the lines with all features, promos, etc in tact. This can be a good thing, since my lines also had grandfathered $5 250 message plans attached to them.

However, the Mobile device billing information was also unchanged, so I could easily see the previous owner's billing information for those lines.

It wasn't a big deal, since I updated the info online, once I had assumed the lines, but if I hadn't, the taxes and fees for that line would have been based on their billing address.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

Wow, this is pretty sweet! Been on unlimited since Droid Charge, and have been on a Galaxy S3 for the last 13 months. It's certainly a great phone, but if this Best Buy deal works (and who knows for how much longer it will...) then now may be a good time for me to upgrade. Or should I wait 2-3 months and hope this deal still works at that point, and then get the latest-and-greatest phone?

mykl376: any news?

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I know it's a lot to ask, but is there any way that someone could help me further with my situation via Skype or Teamviewer?

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data?

just keep checking your account. I doubt anyone will take it off.

I just wanted to check in. I was able to keep our unlimited data and upgrade our phones. Its been almost a month and no issues. Glad I get to keep my unlimited data for another 2 years.

I do have one question, I don't know if I made the right choice or not tonight? My mother really needed a cell phone, shes alone, old, etc. lol. Anyways, I put her on my plan, got her a basic phone. She'll be able to share our(me & the wifes) 1400 minutes and unlimited text(if she knows how to). I got her a LG Revere 2 for $0.01. The Verizon rep told me that I should of used the Verizon Edge program on her phone instead of signing a 2 year contract on her phone. Was it mistake not getting Edge on the basic phone? I just read that you can upgrade to a new phone every 30 days now.

Does that mean I would have been able to pay off her phone, which was only $149, upgrade to a smartphone of my choice and put that on my current line? We are on the 1400 NWT&T plan (2 lines just added a 3rd), the wife and I just upgraded to iPhone's last month. I know that we are stuck with these iPhones for 2 years unless we purchase new phones at retail price, correct? So once our upgrades do come around, can I somehow use this 3rd line with the basic phone to allow me to upgrade my phone without losing unlimited data?

I'm just curious on what my upgrade options are, say from a few month to a year from now if I decide I want a new phone but still want my unl data? I would love to upgrade before 2 years.

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data?

No one knows what changes Verizon would implement the next time you upgrade. Financially speaking , it would make more sense to buy a smartphone on contract on the new line, sell it, then buy a basic phone.

Edge doesn't make much sense in this case so long as you are willing to stick to a 2-year contract. Yes you can upgrade in 30 days now but you still must pay off 50% of the device and purchase a new device on edge.

Of course I'm at work today when the first attempt at delivery was made. Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow, and I'll check back with my results. Fingers crossed!

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Regarding the sim card issue, you should be fine, as both your windows HTC 8x and HTC One use a Verizon Micro sim.

If you do everything right, you shouldn't need to call Verizon or go into a store.

After you activate each new phone on line C, verify it by logging into your account.

Then Turn off your current Windows phone on Line A or B and remove the sim card.
These sim cards are already activated on your current numbers with the UDP plans.

Turn off the brand new HTC One, after it has been activated on line C. Remove the sim and replace it with one of the sims from A or B. Power Line A or B on and the new HTC One will automatically activate.

Take the old sim that was used to activate the HTC ONE on Line C, and put it in the old smartphone that you previously had on Line C. The old phone should reactivate on Line C. Good luck.

ok so everything went smooth the phones are working buuuuuttttt.. when i go to myverizon to transfer the upgrade it states that line C still Has a new phone that needs to be activated? when i click line c and go to activate sure enough it asks is this your new device and shows the htc one which we have activated already??? also in the pic where it shows our phones it has line A as an htc one and line c as an htc one shouldnt line c now show his old phone since we switched it back??

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

Short answer: It's working so far!

Long answer: got the phone today, tried to activate it with my old Boinic's SIM card, trimmed with the Noosy cutter. Verizonwireless.com wouldn't let my use that sim card, saying it was not compatible with my new device. I called the Best Buy number listed on the packing slip, and she was unable to activate it either, saying I had to come into an actual Best Buy store, since that's how the order was processed. Even though I ordered it from the web site, she said it was coded like an order from an actual store. I don't know... The place of origin according to UPS tracking was somewhere in Illinois.

So, after that, I logged back into Verizonwireless.com and just used the sim that came with the new phone. Everything seemed to work fine. I activated the phone, and nothing was changed in my plan or data. I have a new end date for my contract, 2 years from now, which is fine with me. Here's a screen cap showing my data and new contract end date.

@Mykl376, I'm glad that worked out for you. I have a question if anyone could help. I upgraded last week from my Galaxy Nexus to a G2 (which is very nice except for the buttons on the back.) and took the 6gb plan for $30 They offered. However, once I saw this thread I returned the G2 and had my unlimited plan and upgrade restored. The thing is they gave me a new sim card. Does anyone know if this will affect my activation when I order through BB? Thanks in advance.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey all, great post and exactly what I was looking for!

I've had Verizon since 2000 or so when I got my very first cell. Was grandfathered in with my current one, Razr Maxx. Get a 22% through work so i'd love to keep Verizon if at all possible.

My contract ends in May and when I went to a Verizon store it was suggested I switch to "Verizon Edge" to continue with the unlimited text and 450 minutes which is the lowest, but I barely go above that.

$30 for unlimited data which would turn into 2gb a month but with the Edge plan I could get 6gb for the same cost.

If I wanted to keep my unlimited data i'd just have to buy whatever phone I wanted off the web and then move my sim card over? Razr Maxx should be micro so I'm hoping to not have to cut the SIM card down at all.

Only problem would be the price of the Note 3 which i'm interested in getting. Guess there's always e-bay which might have it cheaper.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Do you have an individual or family plan?

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Individual plan.

My friend's trying to convince me to switch to T-Mobile. Unlimited phone calls, wifi calling, unlimited data (throttled at a certain point) and unlimited text.

Problem is I don't know much about their service area. I live in a well populated area, central NJ, but people I know have had problems with their network.

That and the fact i've heard they don't just throttle, but incredibly slow down after you hit a threshold.
