[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

I bought 3 phones with this method on Friday 5/2/14. I didn't see the same screen as others have shown.
My receipts all show:

Your Plan
These items will be billed by your wireless carrier and do not include all fees, taxes and surcharges.
* The monthly rate for your existing plan will remain the same.

Monthly Charges, See below
Verizon Wireless Keep Existing Plan, * No change
With 2-year contract extension

EDIT:
I just tried with my 4th line and it still works. I do not see any options like the others asking me to change data plan. I don't even get an option to change from my existing plan!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Well it worked! I was able too switch my upgrade to my wifes Maxx 6gb plan and then order the S5 for a $100. Phone should be here on Tues. So if I have read correctly I should just have to shut off here Iphone, activate the S5 on here line, shut off the S5 and reactivate here Iphone, then put the S5 on my line?

-Wife and I have been unlimited for a while with upgrades available.
-The wife uses very little data so a couple weeks ago I got here the free Iphone 5C from Verizon on the 6GB Max Loyalty program.
-I'm still due for an upgrade but need to keep my unlimited, just not happy with Verizons current Android phone promotions so waiting a bit.
-My question is, since the wife is on the 6GB Max Loyalty plan can I still do the upgrade swap to her line and keep my unlimited as well as keep her 6gb? I haven't tried it out online yet but I wasn't sure if I will have the option to keep the 6GB plan or if she would drop to the shared plans?
Thanks
Jason

I would think you could transfer your upgrade to your wife's phone and then order what you want and then put that back on your unlimited line but I'm not sure how it would effect her 6GB Max plan. You could try starting the process and see if it requires a plan change and/or what plans it offers you before you finalize it.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Please help....spouse thinks this is a scam/or won't work!!!
Would you please tell me in detail what I should do or if my situation will not work!?
I have 5 lines
1. My line UDP upgrade eligible
2. Wife's line 2gb line not upgrade eligible
3. My fathers line dumb phone upgrade eligible
4. My moms line dumb phone upgrade eligible
5. My grandparents line dumb phone upgrade eligible

I destroyed my RAZR and I want a subsidized or cheap phone price.
My parents and grandparents are wish washy and I am afraid that they will want out before 2 years is over and I don't know what to do?
Is there a way to keep my UDP and use 1 of their lines without having to worry about my parents leaving and me having an early termination fee when they decide to go with another phone company like they do every 4or5 years? Feel free to pm me to save another scenerio from being in the thread!
Thanks in advance

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Just an update...
I got my HTC One M8 in the mail from BB. It arrived in 2 days. I was going to cut down the micro sim in my Droid 4 to the Nano I need in the M8, but 2 things...
1. I saw tutorials online using a printed sheet of paper, but it's impossible to find the PDF that people used at a reliable, printable size. So I just decided to buy a sim cutter. It's on
the way now from Amazon.
BUT...
2. I was reading and I see that FoxFi apparently doesn't yet work with KitKat on the M8. FoxFi is the main reason I need my UDP. I use it to connect everything in my apt. So I'm thinking that I won't actually activate the M8 until FoxFi is stable on it.

Oh, also, my VZW account at this point still shows UDP.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I just wanted to post that I succeeded in this process for a second time on my family share plan. I will outline details below:

Line 1) Unlimited Data Droid Bionic
Line 2) Basic Phone

There are more lines on this plan, but for the sake of keeping things simple I am not going to list them all out.

Step 1) Transferred upgrade from Line 1 to Line 2
Step 2) Upgraded basic phone to LG G2
Step 3) Once G2 came in the mail, I tuned off basic phone.
Step 4) Turn on G2 and go through activation and made two test calls
Step 5) Turn off G2 and reactivated basic phone on Line 1.
Step 6) Transferred Droid Bionic SIM card to new microsim
Step 7) Put transferred microsim card that used to be tied to bionic in the G2 (while it was still off)
Step 8) Turn on G2 and now have a wonderful phone with unlimited data preserved.

This process has been well documented in various places to work but I have found that some points are worth clarification.

It appears to work best if you can do the entire process on-line without calling Verizon or visiting a corporate store.

Rather than cutting the SIM or using some kind of adapter do the following:

1. Log on to the Verizon site select the link to activate a phone.
2. Select that you are activating a phone that was not previously activated on your line
3. It will request the MEID of the phone to be activated.
4. At this point it will ask you if you need a new Sim card...just answer yes
5. When the Sim arrives in a few days go back to the website and follow the instructions to activate the phone with the new Sim.

I found that this worked because the new phone required an NFC Sim and my old Sim was not compatible with the new phone and cutting it was not going to work.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

just pulled the trigger on this. i did not encounter anything unexpected and took screen shots throughout each step of the process. i am upgrading my droid razr.

my wife, who also has unlimited on my account, has an iphone 4, which does not have a sim. anyone have any ideas for upgrading her phone under this "deal"? i don't have any other old phones with sims laying around and I will use the sim from my droid razr to upgrade my own line.

anyone got a creative solution that allows me to keep UDP?

You can also purchase sim cards from Amazon.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

do you think that will work even though i am using the sim from the razr in my new phone? i never thought to take it to verizon and ask for a new sim on that phone, but i wonder if it will cause them to scrutinize my upgrade situation.

i suppose another way would be to order the phone for her line, remove/destroy its sim card, then sell the phone for $600 or so and then use that money to purchase a phone off contract. would cost a few dollars extra, but is that a possible route as well?

thanks, never knew that and now I can look into that.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Take your razr and activate it on her line and then use that sim card to get a new phone.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello,

I would like to try this method, but can you clarify the sim card thing? i want to make sure it works and they havne't stopped allowing this workaround. Just a little background, i have three lines, and plan to transfer my upgrade to the 3rd line (dumb phone) to get the upgraded phone. Then put the dumb phone back on the third line and use the upgraded phone on my line which has unlimited data. Does the new phone come with it's own sim card? Should i not use this sim card and other another one from verizon?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I've done this three times now and it has worked successfully each time.

I had to get a SIM card for the upgraded phone. It took a trip to the local Verizon store to get it. The reason for this is, as explained to me, the dumb phone needs a new SIM card.

How long did it take for your order to process on Bestbuy?

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

on the best buy website, in the ordering process, there is an option to "transfer my upgrade" - you may try to get on their website and start playing around a little bit with that option - it is on the screen right after you add your new phone to your package.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

So glad I found this post. Thank you everyone that contributed to this!

I just did this last week and can confirm it seems to work. I ordered standard shipping on Friday 5.2 and I just received the phone. That said, I have a question.

I see that the guide calls for using your old SIM card. Is there a reason for this? What would happen if I just use the new micro sim with my new M8? The best buy part of the process worked fine and I have confirmation printed that I get to keep my data plan. I'm assuming there is concern that if I were to use the new SIM that somehow Verizon would force me to switch plans? Can anyone confirm that this is the case? I am trying to avoid cutting down the old SIM if I don't have to.

Any info appreciated.

You WILL lose your UDP if you use the new SIM that came with the phone
