[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

An answer to this would be helpful for me, as well - I have a Rezound and am interested in the Galaxy S5 but really can't afford to pay $700 for it.

Can't answer because I don't know what size SIM the Rezound has in it. But if it is too big just cut it down to size and put into the new phone.

That's kinda not what I meant, I understand that I may have to cut down the size of the SIM card to fit. I was more referring to the recent horror stories I've read in the thread about people buying phones from Best Buy and getting knocked down to 512MB or 2GB of data. Sorry, I should have been more clear.

Also, every time I try to get the Best Buy website to check and see if I'm eligible for an upgrade (which I am), it tells me "Looks like your Verizon account is password protected. Please enter your Verizon account password below to continue" despite the fact that I'm entering my correct password.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I don't know if I'll have any luck because the screen/lcd is broken but I can try to reactivate it. Perhaps reactivating it with the sim card then switching to the new phone would do the trick...it's worth a shot.

You just have to do it online.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Thanks for the help, I'm going to give it a shot. Do you think I should activate the GN before I even order a new phone from best buy and live without a phone for a few days or just activate the GN for a few minutes when the new phone arrives then activate the new one? Thanks for all the help and sorry to be bothersome, just want to cover all my bases.

It's looking for your pin number. I think by default it's your last four social security numbers.

Was going to post this. And if that doesn't work, your PIN may have been changed. Mine was the last 4 of my SS#, until someone hacked my account last year and tried to order an iPhone. My address and email were changed, but luckily I got a text alert that I had ordered/changed something on my account, and if I didn't do this to call Verizon. I had to create another PIN, and was told I could never use my SS# again. Probably better, since that's a number that's probably at least as easy as a password to find.

Anyway, yeah, PIN.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

The only problem I have yet to solve is my wife's line on the my family plan. So far, it sounds like any line with UDP on family line cannot get their order through with best buy because of some pre-activation error with the code not matching with Verizon. It seems that the only way to complete the order is to involve Verizon which will result in the removal of the UDP.

I read one testimonial here of someone who ordered two phones for the primary and secondary lines, each with UDP (ordered S5 for secondary and M8 for primary ) and then just swapped the phones when they arrived (used his SIM for the S5 and his wife's SIM for the M8) and that worked fine, so I don't think your summary is correct.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Here is some help for all of you who are still confused or having troubles?

Things you need to know:
1. You must already have an unlimited data plan (UDP)
2. Only possible ONLINE through Best Buy.
3. You MUST ship it. You cannot pick it up in store.
4. You CANNOT use the sim card that comes with the shipped phone. You must use your old sim card. If it is too big you will have to cut it down.
5. Using your old sim, some features/apps on your new phone will not be available ex. Isis Wallet. (*Once you activate with your old sim it is possible to get a replacement sim to fix this issue)
6. If you run into a problem with your Best Buy order CANCEL IT! Don?t call in and give them your Verizon info or you will lose your UDP!
7. Most order problems are from trying to upgrade on a non-main line. This can be resolved by transferring your upgrade to the main line. Then when the phone arrives you can activate it using the old sim card from the phone you want to upgrade.
8. Again, if you have any problem, cancel the order. You can always try again.
9. Keep an eye on your Verizon account to make sure your plan doesn?t change and your contract end date extends two years.

If you keep these things in mind you?ll have a new phone with UDP intact. I?m serious about not calling Best Buy. They say it?s just a pre-activation thing, takes 5 minutes, it won?t change your plan? LIARS! I learned the hard way and lost UDP on one of the three lines I upgraded. Thankfully it was my dad?s line and he only uses like 500mb max? so I don?t think I?m going to be fighting to get it back. There aren?t a lot of success stories once you lose your UDP.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Registered to say thank you to OP and all the contributors! Two individual plans... each order placed 5/17 (had to start fighting on 5/18 with BB to get a $50 +tax credit for the S5s). Removed SIM from old device and installed in the S5s... we are golden!

At what point did you lose it?

I called for the preactivation thing on line 2 the guy said I would be all set, the phone did not arrive yet do u think the order is botched now and will lose it when I activate even with my old sim?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

My wife and I both want to updraged and I am thinking of doing flyingarrow method should I do it?

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

I might be speaking too soon but the line that I did the preactivation thing on is the only one missing a contract extension. It is now month to month. I'll keep watching to see if it changes and keep you updated. It still might have UDP but no contract change is making me wary...

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If you want to keep UDP and get a subsidized phone.... Yes you should.

Sent from my Note 3

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

The exact same thing happened to me... but I was able to return the phone in store to best buy and ***** and moan until Verizon gave me my UDP back... which they did.

I'm going to re-attempt upgrading this week, this time by transferring the upgrade to the main line...

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Everytime I try to upgrade and check eligibility it just says:

"Your carrier says the account info you entered doesn't match their records for that phone number. Please check it and try again".

then I enter it again it says: "Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again."

I chatted online and they entered the info and said try later. I have over a couple days.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Well I pulled the trigger today. Bought the LG G2 for a buck (since it went back on sale). Figure I can't lose unless (of course) I lose UDP. So far the line I upgraded shows the extended contract date and UDP. However, if I look at the line I'm going to use it on, it shows UDP below (My Data Plan) but no plan on the "additional features"??? They can't read minds, right? All the other data plans (3 phones total) show unlimited in the Additional Features. Suppose to arrive next Thursday. I'll try to remember to post my results.

Well it looks like everything worked as planned. Received the phone last Friday, threw away the sim that came with it and put my old sim in it. It told me my old phone number when it booted up and everything was good. I've checked daily to make sure the UDP stayed intact and so far so good.

Many thanks go out to otwok and the other contributors in this thread!!!!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

how do you like the G2? Thats what I'm trying to do. Is it micro sim or regular sim?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

LG G2 takes a micro sim
