[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Yes. Thanks for the response. In post 992 I wrote up how my account is setup. I just can't go through BB. Does my idea from post 992 work if I order through vzw?

You have plenty of other lines you could transfer upgrade to. Just transfer your upgrade from Line1 or Line4 to Line 2, 3, or 5 and order the phone. Then just activate the phone on Line 1 or 4. You can do it through Verizon.

Or go to an authorized dealer (not best buy, Verizon) and ask for a 4G sim card. Some give them for free and others charge $5. Get it activated for the RAZR and put sim in the new phone.

I believe all corporate stores are free. In my experiences Authorized retailers charge $10 for a SIM card.

You can go in a get a card pretty easy and keep UDP.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Never use the SIM that comes with the NEW phone. I could possibly remove your UDP and cause a hassle to get it back, if you can get it back.

My suggestion is to destroy that new SIM card.

I did the best buy thing about a month ago. I had my old SIM card with unlimited data cut down which is currently being used. I may want to get a new SIM card which will enable me to use things like NFC.

Do I just go and ask them to give me a new SIM card?

Has anyone actually done this?

I think that's mostly with the Best Buy method because in that method the phone is actually ordered on the UDP line and if the SIM is pre-activated on the UDP line you will lose UDP.. With the transfer upgrade method the phone is ordered on the tiered data or dumb phone line so if the SIM is pre-associated with those lines if it activates it's no problem, you'll just have to put the original dumb phone back on that line to knock it off. But from what I've seen from SIMs coming from Verizon the SIM isn't pre-activated and is still a virgin SIMs and could be used.

Learn from the fallen!

Ok so I used my wife's phone to test this out and if it fails they can shove it on a 6gig plan for the same price:

- activating the phone VIA the instructions activates the SIM that comes with the new phone! This is not explained on the first post. NEVER ACTIVATE THE PHONE!

-Put SIM into new phone and that's it... tried this with my line and UDP still exists.

Currently talking to Verizon to at least get UDP back on my 2nd line. Currently all the reps do is submit a ticket and say it will be looked at in 72 hrs. I reactivated my old SIM on that line to see if that sways them

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Agreed as long as you activate it on the transferred line first I think it would be ok. But we need to be careful as big V is going to try anything and everything to get us off UDP.

Yes I think they both use microSIM. Only phones I know of that use nano-SIM are iPhones, HTC M7, M8, Moto X.

I believe the entire Moto Droid line (Maxx, ultra and mini) uses the nano sim as well. I know that the Maxx does for sure.

So you real didn't have a problem you just tried to activate the new phone.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

That's great. So did you have to activate on the tiered line first then deactivate and put on UDP line or just activated directly on UDP? Did you use the SIM that came with the phone? And problems with the SIM being attached to the tiered line?

Best Buy had to activate the phone. I did not use the SIM that came with the new phone. I used a brand new SIM card. When I got home from BB, I powered up the new phone so it would complete the activation process.

Shut it down and reactivated the old Line B phone to Line B through the website. Piece of cake. Just be aware that Verizon texts an authorization code you will need to switch. You have to enter it on the website to continue through the process. If you don't get the text you can't switch/activate through the website. (According to a message on the website window.). You have to call an 800 number.

Then I activated the new phone on Line A. Selected the phone never used on this account option. Entered the new phone id and was asked about using an existing or new SIM card.

Selected new SIM, entered the 20 digit SIM number and submitted. The process then prompted me to select a phone to send TXT msg to for an authorization code. I waited for the authorization code to be texted to me, entered it on the website, submitted it and that's it.

Never power on the phone with the new SIM card...the whole point of the BB method is to use an already activated 4g SIM

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Just tried this a few days ago, still works. I followed all the steps verbatim, but I did hit a snag. I moved the old SIM card into the new phone, everything worked fine until the next morning. At that point I couldn't do anything that used the network--phone, text, any data usage. Called up tech support. After some deliberation we determined the reason why it wasn't working was because the phone's programming or whatever was trying to activate the new SIM card even though it was using the old SIM card. The techie just made some quick changes I was told, and now its working fine. I'll make a change here if that condition changes, but hell, I am so damn happy I saw this forum. Thanks guys!

Sweet. When you say activate you don't actually mean to just activate it on a UDP line as that seems to nuke the udp. I should follow the steps from my post 992 right? And worse case if I hit a snag and lose my UDP I just return the phone within 14 days and they will change my plan back to the old one?

As originally described using the transfer upgrade to basic line method you activate the new line on the dumb phone line, reactivate the dumb phone then activating free'd phone on UDP line. But many have found that activating first on the basic line then taking off step isn't necessary. When it comes you can just take the SIM from your UDP line and pop it in the new phone. But if you feel more comfortable doing the extra step of activate and un-activate it. Both work.

We've been trying to keep discussion of the transfer method on the below thread because it is getting mixed up with the Best Buy method which is totally different:

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I took the plunge today and did it. Everything went very smooth. A couple questions. Nothing on my plan changed except the month to month changed to 6/06/16. My data still says unlimited. Will my device change on my account when I get my new device and put the old sim card in? What excuse do you guys use for getting a new sim card?

Thanks. Didn't realize there was another thread on that method. I will take any further questions on this method there.

The first post said he called the activation, ran into a snag then talked to a live person to finish activation.

Warning to all - just insert the old SIM and be done with it. DONT CALL THE ACTIVATION!

I called activation with the phone off, it didn't matter (and with my old SIM in). The activation wallgarden activates the new SIM!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

So, can I can the inactive sim Card from destroyed non functional RAZR, put that in my wife iPhone5 to get it registered and then put it into my BB S4?
