[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Wouldn't the in store activation get rid of my UDP?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Not if you transfer the upgrade to your dummy line and get the phone. Like I said above if you have any phone in hand and you didn't use you udp line to get it you can activate it on your udp line without affecting your plan. If it's in your hand and you didn't use your udp line to get it it's no different then if you bought it on ebay as far as your udp line is concerned. You are not tricking them, they allow you to transfer your upgrade and they allow you to activate any phone you have in your possession on any line you want without affecting that line. The only line that is affected is the line that used the upgrade. You can literally go into the store and tell them you want to transfer the upgrade to your dummy phone then purchase the phone on the dummy line then activate it on your udp line. If they deny you they don't know what they are doing and you should ask someone else. That said I would do what the other poster said and transfer and buy it on the dummy line online. The Verizon employees are usually not all that knowledgeable about their jobs.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

So, go to best buys website. Transfer upgrade from UDP to dummy. Use upgrade to buy g3 ship to store. Activate it on dummy line. Then get a micro Sim to place in the g3 with the UDP phone number.. ( I'm just afraid I'll lose udp, CSR said as soon as upgrade is transfered I'll lose it)

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

It's possible, do it on the Verizon website and read any small print. If it doesn't say specifically that by transferring your upgrade your plan will change then they can't change your plan. If they do call them and say you made a mistake or didn't realize it would happen and tell them to reverse it. If it doesn't change your plan go to bb and buy the g3 activate it on the dummy line, take it home get yourself a SIM adapter and put you udp SIM in it.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have searched many forums and seem to have more questions than answers. I would greatly appreciate some conformation/instruction.

I have the Nationwide Talk Share (if this matters?)
Line 1) UDP upgrade available (Droid Razr Maxx)
Line 2) Dumb (upgrade available in 8 days)
Line 3) Dumb upgrade available

This is my objective.
New Note 3 to replace Droid Maxx
Extend Line 1 contract to avoid slower data speeds. I use abt 5gb/mo
Keep option for other 2 Lines to upgrade if possible
Best Buy said Note 3 $100 but $300 via Verizon.

Also confused on the sim thing and am afraid if I had to go to Verizon to fix an issue in the future, I would have no idea if or how I would explain having a different sim. I thought they were compatable but now i saw they are not? Not even sure i would need to do this.
I had talked to a Verizon CS rep on phone before i read more and she was willing to use line 2 to upgrade my phone and keep my UDP, but it wouldnt extend Line 1 contract and i could not transfer my upgrade from Line 1 effectively losing it.

This is what I thought about doing, but, I'm guessing there is something wrong with it.
Go to Best Buy store (because they said $100 for phone and on website it's $200. Also, I wanted to avoid the sim thing?)
Transfer line 1 UDP upgrade to line 2
Order Note 3 and activate on line 2 (order data plan to turn off later)
At home, "decide" that line 2 wants old phone back. Disconnect Note 3 from line 2 and connect back the dumb phone.
This is what i dont understand... isn't it then a free phone for me to attach to my UDP line 1?
Then can i still transfer my upgrade after line 2 upgrade available and from which line?
I've been told/read, i can transfer upgrade from UDP but Verizon said no, so is it only with Best Buy, and is it only online?
Any help would be appreciated. I will update if success.

If you call Verizon they will tell you that if you transfer the upgrade you will lose unlimited data. That is why everyone says do not call or talk to anyone. Their system does not force the data change.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

im at the screen that says

7199144 Medium

More Everything - Smartphone Line Access $40.00 per month

No, thanks (Pay-per-use charges may apply) $0.00 per month
An additional line fee applies. See pricing for all required fees.

select more everything? im sorry im asking dumb questions, i just dont want to hit the wrong thing and lose UDP. so far ive screenshotted and selected keep my existing plan. i selected at the beginning to transfer upgrade to dummy line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Their system meaning Best Buy. Correct?
I went online BB to transfer Line 1's (UDP) upgrade to Line 2 (dumb) but even tho the upgrade for Line 2 was not due till the 8th, it wouldnt allow me to transfer UDP upgrade. It will however allow me to upgrade Line 2 (early).
So, i guess I will:
Upgrade Line 2 to Note 3
Decide in a few days Line 2 does not like Note 3 and reconnect Dumb phone on Line 2
Add Note 3 on Line 1 (UDP) and transfer upgrade from Line 1 (UDP) to Line 2

Does this sound right?
Is there a problem with transfering my upgrades this way? (Seems like ive seen issues, but maybe was not w/BB)
Any other thing I should be aware of?
And this should all be done on BB online.
If I should have any issues with setup of phones (other than transfering Line 1 UDP upgrade!) I should be able to call Verizon CS for help?
Sorry, I'm just learning from step one on phones and plans.
Thanks for your help so far!!!

Can't you just use the BestBuy method described on this thread?

http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon/351917-verizon-how-keep-unlimited-data-get-phone-subsidized-price-68.html

Basically go online to order your phone from Best Buy on Line1, select a tiered data, have it sent home. When it comes throw away the SIM that comes with it and put the SIM from your old Droid MAXX in the new phone. This will extend your contract on Line1 by 2 years and preserve your UDP on Line1.

That should work for you.

I meant Verizon's system. If you do alternate upgrades online, it will not force a data change on the donor line. If you call or do it online they will make you change the data to tiered from the data line.

Best buy's method works because when you discard the sim card the change order is not activated in Verizon's system.

What you are doing is not really a loophole because you are not using the upgrade from the unlimited line. You do not have to wait a couple days and can swap that phone the same day. You can even call and cancel the data right away. You can then take advantage of the loopholes after you use line 2s upgrade and transfer that upgrade.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi, so I've been reading through but am still a bit confused so sorry if this has been answered before, I recently upgraded a family members phone through the verizon website, and had her phone shipped to the store. The Verizon Rep. activated the phone on her line then immediately switched the line back to her original phone per my request.

When I tried to have him switch her phone (the new one) to my unlimited plan the Rep. at the store told me I would automatically lose my unlimited data plan because both the line that got upgraded and my line are on the same family share plan (even though the upgrade is on a tier and im still unlimited) and they are no longer able to transfer upgrades so now I am stuck with a brand new Galaxy S5 that isnt attatched to any lines at all.

I am wondering if the rep knew what he was talking about or if there is a way I can use this phone on my current line without losing my unlimited data. He said I could sell it and then turn around and buy a different S5 from someone else but that this particular phone, once activated on my line would knock me off of unlimited. I'm thinking about just going to a different store with this phone and tell them i bought it off craigslist and have it added to my line but im scared the rep might be telling the truth. and advice would really be appretiated thanks!

You will not loose unlimited. The employees are supposed to guide all unlimited users to tiered data. What phone do you have now? If you have an LTE phone you can just put your sim card in it. If it is the wrong size you can cut it.

Mr. Toad is correct. I did the swap a few days ago and still have unlimited data. If you don't have a matching sim, you can also go into a corporate store and request a new sim for the S5. From the state you are in now (S5 not connected to any line), go online and change devices for your line and select the S5. Once it is attached to your line, go to the store and ask for a sim for your new phone. They did it with no questions asked and no changed to my plan.

Yeah, don't ask a Verizon rep about anything that involves them getting the "short end of the stick" so to speak.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Oh man thanks so much you guys, I really appretiate the fast and helpfull responces. My old/current phone is a razr max, ill try the sim card right now and if that doesnt work ill go ahead and follow the instructions on cutting or getting a new one from verizon. Thank you very much for the help!

Thank You for your replys Mr. Toad and dss2000.
I’m in Toledo and been busy finding water for my pets to drink etc…
So, I re-read both of these scenarios (until my brain started scrambling)
Dss200, I was trying to avoid the sim switch as I couldn’t answer a question as to why I needed one or if I ever took phone in and they questioned me. Also, with BB method (If I have a choice), I’m afraid at some point, they could switch everyone whose done this to 2gb since its listed as default. So, if my other option is better, I should take that.
BUT, I’m wondering, if I transfer my upgrade from my UDP to the basic, (just confused on all the posts I’ve read) do I have to do this on BB site? And, do I have to take out sim on this phone and not activate to not lose UDP? Also, I’ve read, some places (BB, Verizon) may charge $30 fee to connect this phone to line first time? How do I do this to avoid the fee?
So, I’m confused as to what BB online can do that nowhere else you can do. And don’t know at what point I don’t use sim to avoid losing UDP. (understand I cannot buy phone on UDP and use on SAME line, BUT, I CAN transfer upgrade from UDP?) Is this the point I don’t use sim?
OK,
Line 2 (Dumb) Use his upgrade for new smartphone and activate in store. BB because its cheaper than Verizon right now. (Normal upgrade)
At home, disconnect and reconnect dumb (on Verizon.com?)
Line 1 (UDP) Transfer upgrade to Line 2 (Do I have to do this on BB.com so I don’t lose UDP?) sorry, I didn’t understand your ‘push thru’ statement. Also, is this right, that if I use this upgrade on Line 2 (Dumb), I do not have to take out sim? Only if I use it on UDP?
I’m believing this scenario would avoid the statement: No longer offering UDP
Lastly, if you know without searching, on a search, looked like Note 3 took micro same as Razr Maxx but Slickdeals list says differently.
Thank you both so much for helping me out! It’s appreciated more than you know.

You post is confusing. What are your goals? How many lines do you have and what phones are on them now? What phones do you want on those lines in the end?

From what I understand the best buy method avoids the activation fee.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I was wondering, wouldn't transferring the upgrade to another line still leave you vulnerable to the data restrictions that go into effect in Oct?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Since Im reading.that this method is also working on amazon.com, why not use that to get the G3?
Has anyone.has any problem at all with amazon?
