But I purchased through Verizon website... Would that have still worked? I thought that had to be through BB or Amazon?
If you order a phone on a basic line and try the activation / deactivation method you will be stuck with a $30/mo data plan on the basic line. Before 8/24 we found that it wasn't necessary to activate and deactivate, that you could just put the SIM from the UDP line phone in the new phone and it would retain UDP line on the new phone. The pending activation on the basic line would just fall off. Haven't heard any reports after 8/24 if this still works but Best Buy method still appears to work so I think it will still work. Stands a better chance than the activate/deactivate method at this point.
Sooooo, since I've already activated on the basic line am I SOL? Or can I just "deactivate" and put the UDP SIM into the new phone?
So is the $30/mo tiered data plan now active on what was your basic line? If so then only thing I can think of is call and see if you can cancel out the order return the phone and restore the line back to a basic line and hopefully d start over. Should be easier to do than recovering an UDP line. Unless someone else has an alternative idea that's all I can think of.
I guess I can no longer use my dads upgrade for a smartphone and downgrade him to a basic phone. Such a bummer, I wanted to do it again in a year.
We are on different accounts but it always worked but obviously doesn't work anymore.
Samsung Galaxy S5 (Verizon)
This doesn't work anymore. If you go to Best Buy and try to upgrade there's a note at the bottom of the page that says the following,
"There's a change from Verizon Wireless for unlimited data plans.
Verizon Wireless has ended this plan option, so when you upgrade you'll be switched to their most common 2GB plan by default."
And if it still works I don't know how anyone is getting around it.
That's been there for the longest and the loophole worked regardless. We need to see some new prompts/end result take affectand that will tell if this works still.

Kind of almost makes the upgrade pointless. Sure $229 is a far cry from the full retail price. But it's definitely more than I want to spend.
Is it possible to transfer an upgrade from basic line to UDP, and use best buy method to keep UDP and without paying data on basic line? Thanks.

It just worked for me and 2 other folks, read around some before assuming....
Sorry for not getting back to this earlier. I did this last week, around 8/11. I purchased it 8/11 from Best Buy's website, received it 8/15, and confirmed that I kept my UDP. I just checked Verizon Wireless and I still have my UDP.
I did have to confirm my Verizon account info as part of my buying process, and they did send it for verification purposes. My best guess is to confirm that I am allowed an upgrade. Again, the main thing to do is to remove the included SIM card from the phone and put in yours BEFORE you turn the phone on. Turning the phone on with the pre-installed SIM will lose your UDP as others have said.
Good luck!
