[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Anyone ever had issues activating a g3 using a nano sim in an sim adapter? The sim was previously used in an iphone 5s. This is the first time this has ever happened to me (granted this is the first time with this specific phone) I have tried a micro sim used in a note 3 that works fine in the g3.

But I purchased through Verizon website... Would that have still worked? I thought that had to be through BB or Amazon?

If you order a phone on a basic line and try the activation / deactivation method you will be stuck with a $30/mo data plan on the basic line. Before 8/24 we found that it wasn't necessary to activate and deactivate, that you could just put the SIM from the UDP line phone in the new phone and it would retain UDP line on the new phone. The pending activation on the basic line would just fall off. Haven't heard any reports after 8/24 if this still works but Best Buy method still appears to work so I think it will still work. Stands a better chance than the activate/deactivate method at this point.

Sooooo, since I've already activated on the basic line am I SOL? Or can I just "deactivate" and put the UDP SIM into the new phone?

So is the $30/mo tiered data plan now active on what was your basic line? If so then only thing I can think of is call and see if you can cancel out the order return the phone and restore the line back to a basic line and start over. Should be easier to do than recovering an UDP line. Unless someone else has an alternative idea that's all I can think of.

Yes the 2gig data plan is activated on what was the basic line. I'm going to call and see if they will swap the G3 phone to my wife's 6gig max plan line and drop the 2gig plan on the basic. My wife will enjoy the upgrade and I'll wait for the note4 specs and go from there

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

This doesn't work anymore. If you go to Best Buy and try to upgrade there's a note at the bottom of the page that says the following,

"There's a change from Verizon Wireless for unlimited data plans.

Verizon Wireless has ended this plan option, so when you upgrade you'll be switched to their most common 2GB plan by default."

And if it still works I don't know how anyone is getting around it.

Re: Verizon to close the upgrade to smartphone then downgrade to basic phone loophole

I guess I can no longer use my dads upgrade for a smartphone and downgrade him to a basic phone. Such a bummer, I wanted to do it again in a year. :(

We are on different accounts but it always worked but obviously doesn't work anymore.

Edit: maybe not? I noticed its for legacy plans only and my dad is on a More Everything plan. Does this mean I'd still be able to do it?

You can always upgrade his line then cancel his line after 14 day window paying the etf and fees etc and then open up a basic line by bringing your own flip phone .

That's been there for the longest and the loophole worked regardless. We need to see some new prompts/end result take affect and that will tell if this works still.

Thanks, but why is the upgrade price so much higher through Best Buy than it is through Verizon? The Note 3 cost $229 using the upgrade on BB when it's only $99 on Verizon.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

my wild theory is the loophole.. probably way off in reasoning but their prices fluctuate on the regular. Ive seen the note at 199.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Kind of almost makes the upgrade pointless. Sure $229 is a far cry from the full retail price. But it's definitely more than I want to spend.

You have to catch it when there's a sale just like Verizon is having a very long sale 50% off for many phones

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Any one try the "flying arrow method" after 24th?

Is it possible to transfer an upgrade from basic line to UDP, and use best buy method to keep UDP and without paying data on basic line? Thanks.

I suspect the way to do it is to order the phone on the basic line then when the phone comes take the SIM from your UDP phone and put it in the new phone. Don't activate it on the basic line at all. If it is as before the pending activation on the basic line will just fall off and never go into effect and you have new phone on the UDP. Should work unless Verizon has closed this loophole too.

It just worked for me and 2 other folks, read around some before assuming....

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I just searched a dozen threads around here and didn't find the threads you are referring to. Could you point me to those threads?

Are you saying that you were able to do this AFTER 8/24?

Thanks for your help :)

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Sorry for not getting back to this earlier. I did this last week, around 8/11. I purchased it 8/11 from Best Buy's website, received it 8/15, and confirmed that I kept my UDP. I just checked Verizon Wireless and I still have my UDP.

I did have to confirm my Verizon account info as part of my buying process, and they did send it for verification purposes. My best guess is to confirm that I am allowed an upgrade. Again, the main thing to do is to remove the included SIM card from the phone and put in yours BEFORE you turn the phone on. Turning the phone on with the pre-installed SIM will lose your UDP as others have said.

Good luck!

This is literally one page back...
