[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Does the iphone 5 have the NFC SE SIM? Im going to ask VZW to give me a nano sim card so I can do the UDP upgrade switch but am not sure if the NFC SE SIM nano only exists for the unreleases iphone 6 or would an iphone 5 sim card work with nfc?

Thanks!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Is anyone considering getting of unlimited and going with the 6gb max plan? Has anyone gotten more than 6gb for the same price? Anyone know if you get the 6gb how long it will stay like that?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Any idea of how to take advantage of the upgrade costs without a SIM card? This is really irritating...

I'm seriously considering it. I rarely even use 2GB, so hanging on to the UDP is more because I don't like them taking stuff away and peace of mind than necessity

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey everyone! I follow this thread a few months back and i successfully kept my unlimited data by ordering a phone online from verizon. Once the phone arrived i used a sim cutter to go from micro sim to nano sim and activated the new phone with my old sim that had the UD info on it.

Unfortunately i have realized i made a mistake buying a windows phone XD. I want to buy a used samsung galaxy s5 from a friend. But i hear the s5 has a micro sim.

If i go to verizon will they give me a new micro sim card? Will this effect my data if i activate it or let them activate with this new micro sim? Sorry if this is a silly question... verizon has made me very paranoid about my unlimited data plan.
You should have no problem getting a new sim from Verizon.

You should have no problem getting a new sim from Verizon.

so using the sim with udp only matters when activating a new subsidized phone then? Well thank you ill go to Verizon and have then activate with a new sim card. Thank you!

Correct. You can swap devices or sim card with no effect on your data plan. When you directly upgrade and get a subsidized phone you must choose a new plan.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

eventually one day Verizon will have it completely abolished.

I respectfully disagree. I think Verizon will NEVER take it away. My co-worker still has a Verizon plan that was grandfathered in and it dates back to when Verizon was still Bell Atlantic Mobile. As long as you never miss paying a monthly bill and don't use your Verizon service for illegal purposes, they will never take it away.

Having said that, I'm sure we won't need unlimited data in 10 years.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi, all. I'm a noob here, but have done my best to read the last few dozen pages' worth...still my head is spinning and I could use some help! Here's my situation:

Line 1: UDP for $29.99/mo, out of contract, upgrade eligible (currently the iPhone 4 on this line)
Line 2: basic (non-data) line, in contract until 7/18/15, no upgrade eligible (dumbphone on this line)

I have an iPhone 4 (no sim) on Line 1. Ideally, I'd love to do the following:

1. Trade in my old iPhone 4 for a new iPhone 6, get the $200 credit
2. Keep my UDP on Line 1
3. Not have to convert Line 2 to a TDP

Is there any way to do this? If I'm understanding the posts I've read, if I go the BB method, they are not delivering pre-orders on the iPhone 6, only doing in store (could this change in the future), and I wouldn't get the trade in credit. If I go the old loophole method, that's closed and I'd end up with TDP on Line 2.
Also, without having a SIM on my iPhone 4, I'm not sure how to make any of this work.

But most of you are more knowledgeable than I am about all this.... any help much appreciated. Thanks.

I would just wait until the phone is actually released and then do the BB method. That takes the difficulty with pre-ordering out of the equation.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks....but even if BB, after the release date, starts allowing delivery, what do I do about the fact that my current iPhone 4 doesn't use a SIM?

My assumption is that there needs to be a SIM connected with the current UDP line, that could then transferred to the iPhone 6 and used when activating the phone instead of the SIM that comes with the new phone. How could I cheaply "attach" a SIM to the existing line when what I have currently is an iPhone 4? And would that SIM work in an iPhone 6?

Also, since the BB route wouldn't get me the $200 trade-in on the iPhone 4 that Verizon offers, I'm open to any suggestions for the next best alternative to making $$ selling the old phone if I go the BB route.

Again, I apologize for any of this that might seem obvious to more experienced members.

Thanks.

Purchase or borrow a 4g phone. Then activate a SIM. This must be fine before you order the phone.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I don't know where to post this question but I need help, figuring this out. My current phone is the LG G2 which has a micro-sim, vs these new iphone 6 that has nano-sim. This may cause me a problem also. And I just read this on Apples website.

"iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is not compatible with existing micro-SIM cards" I wonder if that means our existing micro-sims such as my LG G2 wouldn't work to activate it?

Hey everyone, any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I have 2 lines eligible for a upgrade, one with unlimited data, and the other with a dumb phone attached. I also have a iphone 4 in great condition, but I dont use it, just prefer Android. I would however like to take advantage of the 200$ gift card for the iphone 4 and get the iphone 6 if possible, just seems like a good option if doable. But, I don't care to use the iphone 6, just have it around as a back-up or something for my daughter to use at times. So my question is can I upgrade the dumb phone line with the iphone 6, activate it, then switch back to the dumb phone, plan is a family share. I would like the plan to stay the same without having to add a data plan and such, just activate the iphone and then deactivate back to the same plan with the dumb phone. Then rejoice that I upgraded from the 4 to the 6 for few dollars. Anyone know if this is possible or have a recommendation?

I understand that the iPhone 6 uses a 4G LTE nano SIM card. What other phones use this? (If I'm going to buy a cheaper phone so I have a SIM card that will work well in the iPhone 6 using the BB method.) Thanks.

I would get any lte phone and just cut it down to nano size.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I currently have 3 phones (2 UDP and 1 basic). Line 1 is eligible for and upgrade and is on a month to month contract. It is my understanding that the transfer upgrade to the basic line and then transfer to the UDP line no longer works as one is forced to keep the 2 gb minimum plan as it can no longer be dropped. That being said, I plan to upgrade directly on the UDP line through either Costco or Best Buy. From what I have been reading it appears that if I simply place my current sim card from line 1 into the new phone I should maintain the UDP on that line. I am concerned that the month to month contract I am currently on may cause difficulty with this method. Has anyone used the method with a month to month contract or does anyone think that the contract type will make a difference in using this method?

I'm wondering the same thing because I here the SIM card is a NFC SE SIM card. I believe it is the same one as the iphone 5 and iphone 5s but am not positive.

IPhone 5 and iphone 5s are 4g lte I'm just not sure about the nfc part.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks, Mr. Toad. From what you and others have said, I understand that for the BB method to work, I need to place the order AFTER I have already activated a phone with a 4G sim on my destination line. Here's where I'm still confused:

1. Do I need to keep that 4G phone/sim on the line just for the ordering process (I.e, then can put my iPhone 4 back on the destination line), or do I need it on the line continuously until I get my IPhone 6 and put that sim in my new phone? (If I'm waiting weeks for the delivery of the iPhone 6, I'd rather be using my iPhone 4 in the meantime, since my set up is mostly Apple and I'm assuming also my iPhone 4 is more robust in features than whatever 4G phone I hope to buy used very cheaply for this process.)

2. If I'm allowed to put my iPhone 4 back on the destination line during the weeks I wait for the iPhone 6 to arrive, should I then deactivate the iPhone 4 and re-activate the 4G phone immediately before activating the new Iphone 6 with the 4G sim?

3. Does Verizon charge a fee for all these activations/deactivations?

4. I'm new to sims, not having had one before. Does it matter if the 4g sim would be going from a Verizon android phone of some kind to an iPhone?

5. Finally, just for absolute confirmation....in the BB method, when I order the new phone, I wouldn't be transferring my upgrade to my other line that is the basic (nondata) line, but would be ordering and using the upgrade on the UDP line directly, correct?

Thanks for your patience.

1. You most likely will have a pending activation and may not be able to change the phone while waiting for the new phone. You maybe able to get Verizon to work around this but it is probably not worth it. You are using a loophole.

2. You need that sim active so it can be used in the new phone. I think it should be active from before you order the new phone.

3. No.

4. No, the only difference is most android are micro the iPhone is nano size. You can cut a micro and make it a nano. Look for directions online or buy a cutter from amazon/eBay.

5. Correct.
