[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Does anyone know if you can suspend a verizon loyalty plan (30 minutes, pay per use text, UDP) without billing and nothing on the plan will be affected? Thanks!

I've suspended a line before and nothing changed. Unlimited data line.

I have to but not specifically this type of plan so I wanted to confirm that it can and won't be treated differently than others. Thanks for the reply!

I'm actually looking to AOL one of those lines in the next day or so. I planned on suspending when not needing it here and there so I hope it works just like any line suspension.

There's a rumor that aols of UDP lines will end on the 13th. Anyone heard the same?

Been hearing that all day on slickdeals. Nothing official, but it has come from Verizon AOL dept reps. So we shall see.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Update on best buy method and pending activations. I've seen numerous people post that their pending activations have maintained for over a month on various sites. Seems that they aren't dropping off like they did at first, for whatever reason that may be. The suspend/reconnect service method hasn't helped any drop off recently, either. Just want everyone to be aware that you may have to deal with a pending activation over a long period of time if you don't have success getting your contract extended when activating your new phone.

If anyone comes up with any new methods or ways to get the pending activation removed please update us all. Otherwise, I view this as a risk you might not want to take just to get a subsidized phone due to having to avoid Verizon from here on out if it never falls off.

I was thinking of pulling the trigger on the best buy method today now that the Note 4 is available online finally. I'm on a Nationwide Talk Shared plan, line 1 is my Galaxy S4 UDP and it's up for upgrade. Line 2 is dummy line/non-smartphone and expires 7/10/15. I was going to do the sim switch with my S4 which is upgrade eligible.

So is this gonna work still?. Don't like this pending activation thing you mentioned. Anyone been successful using this method in the last month and having the pending activation drop?

The pending activation is definitely just random. When I got my iPhone 6 on release day when I preordered from Apple the best buy method worked and it extended my contract and I had no pending activation. Returned it and ordered another upgrade through apple and this time I have the pending activation. If it doesn't drop by the return date it is going back. Verizon will know why the pending activation is there if I ever need them for whatever reason. Just sucks bc I waited a month for my 6+.

So what is the downside of having a pending activatino? Why would it even matter?

Verizon could potentially activate the order. Some people have reported if they got a new sim card with a pending activation they lost unlimited data.

Do you know if when a pending activation drops off does the contract then extend two years or does it still leave us with potential unwanted issues?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I couldn't find the SIM that was in my Galaxy Nexus. So I stopped by VZW store and had them activate it on my line and give me a new SIM. Got home and re activated my S5 on the line. All is good. The thing that is making me wonder about adding the G Nexus on my bro UDP line is the last step of switching a phone onto a line is swapping the SIM. The Droid X SIM won't work in the G Nexus and is 750 miles away. Can I just activate on the Droid X line and select the option that says activate a phone that has never been on this account before and enter in the SIM card and IMEI # off the Nexus?

So it's my understanding that your brother is 750 miles away from you and you can't just give him the Nexus to switch to his line that had the Droid X?. I just switched the SIM card on my Droid Razr to a Nano card with a Nano to Micro adapter in anticipation to getting the Nexus using the BB method. When i went into the the VZ site, it told me to confirm the new SIM card that it will activate it and the old SIM card will stop working. It didn't even ask for any IME, howver, when I inserted the new SIM card into my phone it took a minute to program it, so my guess is that you would need a phone to activate your SIM card.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

UPDATE:

I successfully upgraded and currently still have unlimited data. Thanks to those who helped me the last few days. This droid turbo with the ballistic nylon is sexy and i have yet to find something i don't like about it.

Here's what I did:

On myverizon, I transferred UDP upgrade to my tiered data line and purchased the droid turbo. Received it the next day in the mail and removed the sim that came with it and violently destroyed it. I then inserted my UDP sim card and BAM! IT WORKED. I didn't bother activating it on my tiered line first as previous posts here said it was unneeded.

I just ordered my BN Turbo the same way as clayton993. Transferred my UDP upgrade to my TDP second line. Bought the Turbo online and have it shipping to my house. When I get the Turbo should I bother activating it on the TDP second line or should I just activate it as Clayton993 did and insert UDP sim card and go with it. I don't want problems. The only thing I can think of that would cause an issue would be the TDP second line currently has a iPhone 5 activated on it. Not an android device. Any advice? Clayton993 thanks for posting about your situation. Helped me out!

Only issue to be aware of is the pending activation. As Mr Toad mentioned, it can cause issues if it doesn't ever drop off such as losing unlimited data if you ever need a new sim or Verizon activating the order on their own behalf.

Oh wow, well there goes my hope of getting a Nexu6... smh ;-(

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok, so it wont matter which line I activate the Turbo on? I can activate it on the UDP line and skip a step with no problem? Also how do I check after I get up and running with new BN Turbo if this activation is still on my account? Where do I see that info. This is nerve wracking. Last time I upgraded my device was on the Galaxy S3 pre order and it was the last time VZ let us upgrade and keep the UDP no questions in a retail store. Seems so long ago...

Sign into your account on a computer and then select "activate or switch devices". If there is a pending activation it will show here on the line used to purchase the upgrade.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Why cant the end user just manually cancel the pending activation once the phone is swapped and/or call and have the pending removed...? Im so distort about this b/c I saw this as my last chance to get a Nexu6 and keep my UDP w/o paying $700....

Because the reps say that the activation must be carried out with the SIM card that was sent with the device and unless that happens we have the risk of pending activation. Like I have mentioned before, it is purely a gamble. You may or may not get the pending act and have no issues, but if you do it can affect you down the road.

Also, as far as the nexus 6 goes on Verizon we don't truly know when it will be offered. The nexus page on the play store says it will be in stock for purchase later in November at many carriers but that list is absent of Verizon. So it can't be said for sure it will be available to order from Verizon anytime soon.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Well that is simple enough to check. After I get the phone on Tuesday and activate it, I will have to keep my eye on the status. I'll update my post if the pending activation is removed. As for activation of the Turbo. Should I activate it on the line used for the upgrade and then transfer it the the UDP line. Or should I just activate it on the UDP line?

If I were you I would try just inserting your sim and seeing if you get lucky and avoid a pending activation. If you get stuck with a pending activation by just inserting your sim and activating the phone then you can always activate it using the sim it came with then pop your sim back in it. After that you can reactivate the iPhone 5 back on the tiered line. You may need to get another sim unless the Turbo comes with a nano sim. I'm not sure which androids use nano at the moment.
