Ordered online from Best Buy using UDP line. Phone shipped from store with sim card in it. As long as I remove and destroy without turning on, I can just insert my current sim and keep UDP, correct? I did not expect card to be in phone.

Yes. If the card was not in the phone then the best buy method would not work.

Yes. If the card was not in the phone then the best buy method would not work.

Wait the SIM card can sometimes not be in the phone? Which then means you should return it? Or would that not matter and you just pop in your original SIM from old phone

Yes that's correct. To be extra careful I'd recommend taking the SIM that comes with the phone out before even putting in the battery so it doesn't accidentally get turned on.

Won't work with the Droid Turbo so I am going to have to be like a surgeon when that comes.

Can you upgrade a non 4G UDP line to a new phone? My bro is finally ready to ditch his droid X and get a new phone. I know who still has a Droid X? He has unlimited data. Can this be done? My thought was to take a Galaxy Nexus I have and SIM and just try to activate it on his line. Then I was going to transfer an upgrade to another TDP line and upgrade that line. Then when the new phone comes in do the activation on the TDP line. Wait an hour then transfer new phone to UDP line that GN is now on(formerly X). Any idea if this will work?

My suggestion would be to wait and see what happens to the Nexus 6 once it is released before deciding what to do.

Yes I am planning to wait at least until November 12, hoping we'll find out then about how the Nexus 6 will be distributed via the carriers. I want to get it on contract with Verizon, however that takes place. I'm hoping to be able to use the Best Buy method since that's a tried and true method, but if it looks like Best Buy won't be shipping it right away, like the Note 4, then I'll probably figure out something else.

Oh that's right forgot some phones have fixed batteries. So ya just get it out of there first thing when taking out of box to prevent accidentally turning it on with the SIM that comes with the phone in it.

Should I transfer my UDP upgrade to my TDP line and do the upgrade and just switch the device to my UDP line when it arrives, OR

Should I upgrade through best buy and go that route? I don't think best buy has the same promos for the turbo like Verizon does though.

I would go through Verizon and transfer your upgrade to the tiered line. By doing it this way, you won't have a pending activation on your account like the Best Buy method (this does eventually fall off).

This has happened to people in the past. Clear cache, try a different browser, log out, wait another day. Trying one or all of those should take care of the issue.

Will the Best Buy method work if I buy an iPhone in a Best Buy store and activate it on a due-for-upgrade dumbphone line? Or will that trigger the possibility of the dumbphone line being stuck with 2 years of paid data? Thanks so much.

It will activate the data requirement of done in the store. If you get the Phone delivered and never activate on the dumb-phone line it should bypass the requirement for data.

You could order it from apple and discard the sim that it comes with. Then activate it on you unlimited line.

I'm trying on the BB site right now, and it says "A data package (minimum $30/month) is required during the minimum contract term for any smartphone activated on a non-MORE Everything plan" in the fine print. Are we safely assuming that if I never activate on the dumbphone line, I won't get stuck with the 2 years of data on the dumbphone? Thanks again!

Just out of curiosity for others who did BB on a dumbphone, did they get this warning as well:

I understand Best Buy reserves the right to charge the remaining portion of the full retail device price to my credit card if I cancel my 2-year contract within 14 days and don't return the device.

What is the average time it is taking for a pending activation to fall off of a single UDP line using the BB method? I think I've seen a month somewhere, but wanted to see if that is right and that they are still actually disappearing.
