[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

What he said, I have done it twice before and am in the middle of doing it again right now (just waiting on the phone to finish it). May be a couple more steps but it works!

keep us posted on your current process. :D

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So it's my understanding that your brother is 750 miles away from you and you can't just give him the Nexus to switch to his line that had the Droid X?. I just switched the SIM card on my Droid Razr to a Nano card with a Nano to Micro adapter in anticipation to getting the Nexus using the BB method. When i went into the the VZ site, it told me to confirm the new SIM card that it will activate it and the old SIM card will stop working. It didn't even ask for any IME, howver, when I inserted the new SIM card into my phone it took a minute to program it, so my guess is that you would need a phone to activate your SIM card.

And this is another reason to just activate it on the TDP. The easiest thing for you is the following:

1) Log onto Verizon and transfer your UDP line's upgrade to a TDP line;
2) Order the new smartphone you want on the TDP line;
3) When the new smartphone arrives, activate it on the TDP line using the SIM card that ships with the phone;
4) Wait at least an hour and make a few calls/text from the new smartphone to make sure it activated OK;
5) Log onto Verizon and put the TDP line's old smartphone back on the TDP line; and
6) Log onto Verizon and put the new smartphone on the UDP line.

By doing these 6 steps, you won't have to worry about pending activations or wrong SIM sizes.

I guess my confusion is I am going to try this method listed. But before I do I was going to put my GNexus on the UDP line. Which sounds like it will take the UDP line with 3G to a 4G no problem. I will do that the day the upgrade phone arrives at his house. Then activate the upgrade phone on the TDP line with the included SIM. Where I am getting lost is at step 5. When you put a phone onto a different line it goes through the entire switch then at the end tells you to take the SIM out of the phone that was previously on the line and put it into the phone that is being put on the line. This would be impossible for me because he is in a different state. Do I not have to swap the SIMS to complete steps 5 and 6?

Once you activate the new phone on the TDP you can take that phone off and put it on your UDP without having to change the SIM card it came with.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I ordered a phone on Oct 10 using the BB method and it took 37 days for the pending activation to go away. I was getting a little concerned also. There is hope.

Thanks for the heads up. Guess the pending activations are taking longer to fall off than they did before. I just got my Note 4 via BB method a week ago yesterday (11/13) and see the pending activation and will be keeping an eye on it... Hopefully it goes away soon as it makes me nervous about my UDP.

You don't need to swap SIMs as Verizon's saves the old phone's information (including the old SIM).

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Now I'm wondering if I should activate my current phone. Here's what happened: I received a Verizon UDP via AoL. I bought a Verizon Galaxy Nexus to use until I get a Nexus 6. The Nexus has always shown here:
Nexus.JPG

I never have clicked through this to activate the Nexus. This week I did an upgrade and bought an iPhone 6 using the Best Buy method. When I put my active SIM card in the iPhone, the pending activation here changed to the iPhone. I only had the SIM card in the iPhone for 10 minutes or so. Now that I am using my Nexus, it returned here. Should I click through here to activate the Nexus?

Please keep us in the loop as to when and how long it took to go away, if it does that is.

No. If you did the best buy method on that line do not activate it. You would probably loose unlimited data.

Should I have activated the Nexus here before? I've had it about a month now. Will an activation always be here?

Yes activate it, the other guy thought you bought the Nexus through the BB method that's why he said no.

He did say he used the Best Buy method to purchase an iPhone. If he did this then there will probably be a pending activation on the line. I would be leary of activating anything online with this account.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just a update, I did the verizon online method and just switched sims when I received the device. Pending activation just fell off. It took 10 days. Everything seems back to normal on all my devices. Thanks for all the help along the way.

Now you guys have me confused! I bought the Nexus off eBay so I'd have something to assume the account. It came with a SIM card in it, and I used it to activate the phone. The Nexus then showed up in the screenshot I posted earlier, but I never did anything with it.

Last night I put my SIM card in the iPhone I bought as an upgrade. The iPhone then showed as the device pending activation. After a few minutes I put the SIM card back in my Nexus, and now it's showing again.

Does it matter if a phone is always showing as pending activation? I've had the account about a month now.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Sort of a related question on this...

A few months ago I got a G5 to replace my old moto phone. Upgrade worked great, still have UDP on that one.
I just ordered a note4 from BB to replace the G5, using the upgrade transfer from wifes phone, an older moto... She wants the G5, I want the note4.

Do I just swap the sims to transfer the phones or do I have to deal with Verizon?
I would stick the G5 sim in the note 4, then the sim from her moto into the G5... That correct?

Thanks, Joe

Update--- really weird... Put the order in on Wed 11-19, asking for 2 day delivery... Kept checking the BB site and all it said was "order in process". Didnt get an email or any shipping info.
Was getting a little concerned so email BB customer support asking whats going on...
Got an email back today saying the phone is still waiting to get picked up by UPS, delivery set for next friday, 11-28. Little while later ups shows up with the phone! WTF!

I took the sim out of my S5, stuck it in the N4 and it works ;} Cut down the sim from wife's phone, did a wipe on the S5, stuck the sim in and that works too :}}

Account still says UDP ;}

HTH!

Why do you need to activate it online? If all the phones are working just leave it alone. It does not matter that it is there. You just don't want to replace the sim or active the order while it is pending.

When you do the Best Buy method it leaves a switch order on your account. If the order is executed you will lose unlimited data. This is why the sim card from the best buy orders are removed and not activated. The order is reported to drop off eventually.

Yes I do plan to leave it alone. But I'm wondering why the Nexus remained there in the first place. I've had it about a month now.

Did you have a pending activation before the best buy order? What phone do you want on your account?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

As far as I know the pending activation was always there. I never paid much attention to it until doing the upgrade earlier this week. Currently I want the Nexus on my account. Since everything works fine, I'm wondering if there's any point to go through the activation process. I know better than to do it with the iPhone that I bought with an upgrade, but my Nexus was bought elsewhere, and the Nexus 6 which is my ultimate goal will be bought from either the Play Store or Motorola. I'm inclined to just let the pending activation sit. Maybe it'll fall off; maybe it won't. Who cares? My contract end date was extended 2 years. It's now 11/19/2016. And my unlimited data is still intact.
