[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Nexus makes it easy. It was easier before the new os, but it works. I don't have to install certificates and change my lock screen to use tethering.

Cool. I didn't have to do that either.
Sounds like we both have a happy situation.

The Nexus 6 sounds like a nice device.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Great thank you! So it takes care of the sim card issue for me then when I do the online switch? So if i understand you correctky, I don't have to move the s4 back to line 3 and then the s6 to line 1. I just do the s6 to line 1 and it moves the s4 to line 3 automatically?

Just follow the directions and Verizon will automatically recode the SIMs to the appropriate lines. The switch function will automatically move the phones at the same time.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks for your help!

Line 1. Wants the Z3v....which is .99 with 2 year on VZ site...they want a break from Samsung.
Line 2. Wants the Droid Turbo.

I was not sure if I needed to get new SIM cards.... I have one Nano I was able to obtain from a VZ authorized re-seller.

You won't need new SIM cards as you'll just reprogram the SIMs using Verizon online. The directions I provided will work. Just follow the prompts with Verizon online when activating/moving phones.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you again for your help. I'll be sure to keep them straight. I just want to make sure of everything before I do this. Step 9 says 9.) Follow the rest of the directions to activate the phone. Will during that part I'll be reinserting my old sim cards into the new phones?

You won't be using your old SIMs. You'll just reprogram the new ones to the unlimited data plan that is on the opposite line that the upgrade was used.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi dusoccer. Me again. In case you don't remember I'm doing the upgrade on my dumb phone line via Best Buy. Shipping tomorrow and I know before turning phone on put Sim card from my existing LG G2 so I keep unlimited. Spoke to Best Buy about 100 gift card you are supposed to get with the G4. They say it will be emailed after phone ships and phone is activated. Since I'm not actually activating should I assume I probably won't get gift card (rather have unlimited anyway). Or can Best Buy not really see if it was activated on that line. Just curious if I won't be getting my gift card lol.

It all kinda depends. Some systems will see the phone activated. Some systems won't because it is tied to the SIM card/tiered data plan. I honestly don't know if you will get it. My guess is yes based on the old Comcast deal, but again, don't plan on it.

I'll keep my fingers crossed but my unlimited is much more important to me :)
Thanks!

Well, it runs straight android. And besides the little locking down the carriers require, they make it super easy to root and unlock boot loaders. With my Galaxy S5 and foxfi, I had to install certificates and change my lock screen (I don't use one on my android). This way I don't have to do that, and it's the built in feature.

Theoretically speaking, you can add the tethering settings without rooting even, but I had already rooted and it made it easier. :)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If I am the only line on my plan will the best buy method still work to keep ULD?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks for the quick reply. How do I resolve the pending activation on my line then? Or wont I have one?
You will have one. It will take a couple months to go away. It should not be a problem unless your trying to switch sim cards around.

so to be clear, I get the phone from best buy shipped to home and swap the sim card BEFORE ever turning on the phone. This will cause a pending activation but it will clear and all will be okay.

Yes, do not turn the phone on our charge it. Remove the sim and cut it in half the moment you open the box. Pending activation will drop off eventually.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm grateful I found this thread!

I have a nationwide plan with 3 lines.
Line 1 - iPhone with Udp
Line 2 - iPhone with Udp
Line 3 - basic phone
All are available for upgrade.

Am I able to upgrade line 3 with an iPhone and transfer it over to line 2? I should've been doing this awhile ago! Thanks!

Yes. What type of iPhone do you have on Line 2?

I thank you very much. You are a truly patient individual for answering all of these questions. This will sound stupid though, but looking over the phones offered on vzw website, we were now thinking about going with the "Moto X Designed by You 2nd Gen" instead of the Droid Maxx. I assume it doesn't matter what phones you upgrade to, just follow the steps for setting up the new SIMs on the opposing lines, right?

Yes, unless you order phones that have a Micro-sized SIM. If you order a phone that has Micro-SIM (like LG G2/3/4 or Note 4), you would just use your old SIM to activate the phone. The Droid Maxx and Moto X 2014 both use a nano-SIM. That's why you type it in and recode them on the opposite line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Both IPhones are 4s.

Just do the following:

1.) Order the new iPhone using Line 1's upgrade from either Best Buy or Verizon. Have the phone shipped to home.
2.) When the new phone arrives do not turn it on or plug it in.
3.) Log into Verizon's website
4.) Select "activate or switch device"
5.) Select Line 2
6.) Select "phone that has never been on the account before"
7.) Select "use pre-existing SIM"
8.) Type in the IMEI and SIM numbers that came with the new phone. Usually, there is a sticker on the box that contains them.
9.) Follow the rest of the directions to activate the phone

Now repeat using Line 2's upgrade in step 1 and selecting Line 1 in step 5. This will get you two new iPhones on both unlimited lines and extend them into a new 2 year contract. Just make sure to do two separate orders and do not confuse the phones!!!
