[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Okay so I've read through much of this thread but I'd love verification.

I'm on a plan with my parents, we'll call them L1 and L2.

L1 recently upgraded and is a TDP

L2 recently upgraded and is a TDP

L3, me, haven't upgraded since I got my S5, but still have my UDP and currently have my upgrade.

Now can I transfer my upgrade to L1 or L2, have them get a new phone, and then use that new phone (probably an S7)? Or is it the fact that my upgrade was used to get that phone make it toxic for me?

Also what is the alternative? Go through BB with my upgrade, destroy new sim, sell new phone online, then what?

Thank You!

Needs more info.

Plan: <Nationwide something or other?>

L1, <phone>, TDP, <on-contract?>, <contract end date>, <upgrade available?>
L2, <phone>, TDP, <on-contract?>, <contract end date>, <upgrade available?>
L3, Galaxy S5, UDP <with or without $20 increase>, <on-contract?>, <contract end date>, upgrade available: yes?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You can buy on a Device Payment Plan if you got hit with the $20 increase, thus no real hoops to jump through to get a new phone and not have to pay full retail price immediately.

I was able to order 2 iphone SEs for $1 each through verizon's website as direct upgrades for my UDPs at the 2 year contract extension on Friday. I am just uncertain about activating them based on what I said above and Verizon not officially acknowledging it. I still have UDP and got the phones yesterday with the receipt showing $49.99 unlimited data for both.

I have done the DPP last year though.

Yep. You can buy from Verizon, just make sure you do the full-retail price option.

And you can buy a phone at full-retail price wherever Verizon-compatible phones are sold.

I see. Can I even have a friend order the phone from Verizon for me, and activate the phone myself?
If not from Verizon, do you suggest ordering from Samsung directly?

Also, would an issue arise regarding sim card? I currently own a verizon note 3. Was wondering if that card is compatible on note 7.

Thanks very much in advance for anyone reading. I understand its a lot to ask and I want to make sure I do everything right in keeping UDP.

So I just pre-ordered the Note 7 on a TDP line from Best Buy. When it comes in, I have to pick it up from Best Buy, since it wouldn't do the order online. I want to use this on my UDP line, so what's my options? I want to use my current Note 5 on the TDP and the Note 7 on my line.

Also, the TDP is currently a dumb phone, and I don't have an extra SIM for the swap, other than the SIM it comes with.

You can buy through the iconic portal as a new user and for device only. Once you get the phone simply pop in your current note 3 sim after cutting it to nano.

Assuming that the upgrade came from the tdp line, then activate on tdp first then put in your note 5 sim. Go to my Verizon to activate the basic phone on the line. I believe that in this situation the tdp line would be required to have a data plan for 2 years

I see through searching online on how to cut, however, what if I were to fail in cutting my sim card?

And I dont see anywhere in verizons iconic portal for purchasing a new device without a contract as a new customer..
At this point im comtemplating purchasing through samsung as in the picture above. Is that okay?

I'm giving the Note 5 to the TDP line, so I can just swap the SIM after activating the Note 7 first on the TDP line?

L1, Iphone 5c, TDP, on-contract, not sure contract end date, no upgrade available
L2, DroidX, TDP, on-contract, not sure contract end date, no upgrade available

So can I transfer my upgrade to one L1 or L2, have them buy and activate the phone and then put my sim card in?

Sure purchasing from Samsung directly is fine.

You would lose udp if you used the l3 upgrade and put the phone on l3

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

There is a 2-year subsided option for you also if you are at the 49.99 udp... I ordered note 7 for 299.98 with the 2 year contract option. ... when it asked me to pick a plan it had the option to keep unlimited for 49.99...

Fyi... I am on a nationwide 550 plan for $40 month - $9 phone access - 49.99 udp.... I mean it's expensive for a single phone plan but it's legit 4glte unlimited... not to mention it's Verizon so I almost always have an awesome signal

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Here's a screenshot from Verizon portal when going through the upgrade steps. I ended up backing out and ordering the note 7 ( 2-year contract 299.98 ) instead of s7 edge , but I think you get the picture. .. I also found a discount through my wife's work email that applied to the udp...

Let me know if you have any more questions about upgrading with 49.99 udp....

Thanks.
And in regards to cutting a sim card to nano, what are the consequences if i mess up?
What are the alternatives if I do not wish to cut my sim card?

Worse case you would need a new sim. Verizon can provide you one for free, but it is possible that unlimited data might get messed up if you let Verizon do it. It could be fixed, just that it could be a hassle. You can also buy sim from a Verizon third party or eBay

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So it has been posted more then a couple times the last couple days that of you are paying the extra $20 on a UDP for a total of $49.99 and have an upgrade you can get a subsidized phone and keep your UDP. A few people have done so here.

But I have yet to see any of those people say they have activated that phone on the UDP the upgrade came from and keep their UDP.

Can anybody confirm they have not only bought the phone but also put it on the line the upgrade came from and still have their UDP.

Right now I don't push the extra $20 and plan on not doing that, so for me it doesn't really matter. But I do from time to time try and help people with questions and answers in this thread. So it would be nice to know that this does work 100%.

Sell the phone from the upgrade and buy the phone you want at full retail.

There are also trading lists out there... Although if you get shafted... You're out of luck.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have a nationwide talk and text 700 plan

L1: iphone 5s UDP eligible upgrade
L2: iphone 6s 4gb plan
L3: iphone 6s 2gb plan
L4: basic phone eligible upgrade

the last time I upgraded I did the following

1) L4 upgraded to iPhone and added a dataplan
2) L1 and L4 swapped phones
3) L4 downgraded to basic phone and removed dataplan

L1 is up again and want to upgrade to the samsung s7. Will my steps above still work?
