[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

This is from the old Slickdeals keep your unlimited data thread which is now closed. Anybody know if this method still works if I wanted to order the Galaxy Note 7....
My upgrade on one of my UDP lines is not till 2 months out yet, but as I go on to my Verizon and do a test purchase it will let me upgrade early and buy a subsidized Note 7... I have the 29.99 UDP. Want to stay on contract . I have 2 unlimited data lines where I could do the Sim swap, this method work for me 2 years ago.
Aohus Method (variation of the Flying Arrow Method)*
(for accounts with at least 2 UDP lines)

You can do Aohus if you have a line situation like this (you can have additional lines, too) and the SIM card sizes of the 4G LTE phone on L1 and the new smartphone you are ordering are the same size:

L1: UDP 4G LTE phone Yes or No
L2: UDP 3G or 4G LTE phone Yes

1) Have a 4G LTE phone active on UDP Line 1before you order;
2) Through*Verizon online, order the new smartphone UDP Line 1 wants using UDP Line 2's upgrade on UDP Line 2, picking the 2GB data plan for UDP Line 2 and have it*shipped to homenot shipped to store*DO NOT EVER SELECT A MORE EVERYTHING PLAN - if that is your only option, switch browsers or try ordering through the iconic portal or the comcast link.;
3) When the new smartphone arrives, remove the SIM card it ships with*without turning it on or plugging it in; and
4) Place the 4G LTE SIM card that is currently active on UDP Line 1 into the new smartphone and turn it on.

The result is that UDP Line 2's contract will be extended by 2 years and both lines will keep UDP.*You can NEVER use the subsidized phone on the UDP line it was ordered on. NEVER

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have 3 lines with Verizon.
Line 1 UDP 49.99 no contract
Line 2 UDP 49.99 no contract
Line 3 basic no contract

I am trying to upgrade Line 1 and 2 to the Note 7 299.99 each with a 2 year contract. After I select my phone and options I see a disclaimer I don't recall seeing when I went through the process earlier. If I agree to the disclaimer, will Verizon take away my UDP?

What does the disclaimer say?

As stated within the last two pages or so if you are already paying the extra $20 which you are you can upgrade via subsidized price without losing your UDP. Nothing special you have to do.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I was just checking to see if anyone heard of anything changing because the disclaimer did not show when I went through the upgrade process earlier. We all know how Verizon has a habit of changing things. I just want to make sure I keep my UDP.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Have 1 line udp.
my data plan price has gone up to 49.99.

past few days been in an out of the vzw website via my phone. When I select upgrade I can see the option to purchase phone at
1. Full retail 2. Subsidized 3. 299.99 us my upgrade.

I gone as far as almost checking out. But I am nervous to complete the transaction. Has anyone been successful with choosing to use your upgrade or subsidized pricing, activating the phone and keeping UDP?

Bb currently has promotion for moto z force for 99.99 with speaker moto mod for free. Is it safer to just do everything via Verizon ? On the bb site I could even see my plan.

*Note that at one time the website did act funny and gave me a page does not exist error. But I wonder if it's bc I kept canceling and signing out. I have not atempted to test upgrading again. But I did lower my plan from 900mins @79.99 to 450 mins @59.99

Currently on the vzw app it shows I have 450 mins and my udp is still there.

I'm in this same boat. However I pre-ordered the note 7 under the contracted sub price of 299.99 with choosing to keep my unlimited data. We will see what happens.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Okay, I am feeling like an ***** as I have read the past 5 or so pages and am not sure I understand the new methods (I used the basic BBM previously.)

Here is my situation:

700 Min Family Share plan
L1,S5, UDP (29.99), on-contract, end 12/2016
L2, S4, 2G limit (29.99), contract up as of 7/26/2016, upgrade available

I would like to upgrade both phones, at some point, while retaining UDP on line 1. I can wait until L1 contract expires, if necessary. What are my options?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Wondering if one can go to a VZ authorized dealer store and get a new SIM card (without losing UDP) for an iphone 6 that is still under contract for another year of UDP.

The contract renewal was done with the OLD BBM where you buy the phone, destroy the new SIM and just cut down the old SIM and enjoy.

Long story short, the cut down SIM no longer works correctly with the iphone 6 after using the SIM in another phone for a bit. It still shows reception and "LTE" on the top of the phone when inserted. But calls, text, data etc all no longer works. When you make a call, it tells you to call Verizon.

Anyone? Thanks

Yes, just go in and tell them the SIM isn't working, they will give you a new one. I have gotten a new SIM card before with the and situation.

Thanks for the response. Did you get a new SIM card before or after 11/15/15? I was wondering if it has anything to do with now that the OLD BBM doesn't work as it will trigger change order even when you use the old SIM, is it doing anything retroactively.

Still trying to figure out why it still shows LTE on the top of phone but can't call, text, data. But when you try to make a call, it says "we're unable to complete your call. contact customer service at *611. announcement 3 switch 2-51". Very strange.

Just got one last Friday.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just got one last Friday.

Got one today from a VAR and everything worked great for a few hours. Now it keeps giving the No SIM error. Tried the new SIM on another phone and it can't read it either. Is it safe to order a SIM card from Verizon on their website when signed in?

Best case scenario is the VAR gave a faulty SIM, but what are the chances of it being good for a few hours and failing right away. Thoughts on best way going forward?

I can't tell you it's safe to get one any other way then I already have.

So... my friend loss her UDP. (I've been asking for her) I'm guessing it either triggered something when she used her old SIM to try out another phone and then activated her own iphone again, or the VAR rep changed her plan without telling her while getting the new SIM after the old one stopped working. I had stressed at least 10 times about how important it is to make sure they don't do that and to check while they activate the new SIM.

The VAR rep never said a thing about changing data plans and it looked like UDP was intact on her account for a while until just hrs ago. So who know if it's the rep or the swapping phones and reactivating the iphone had already doomed the situation.

I guess the only thing to do now is try to ask for an IPR? The issue is, she won't be able to return her phone because its been 1 yr.

When she signed up with BB 1 yr ago, it did say "Keep Existing Plan" all through checkout. What can be done to salvage this situation? I'm assuming VZ should give some sort of concession since she did have a contract.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Upgrade line 2 now and put that phone on line 1. In Dec transfer upgrade from line 1 to line 2.

Thanks! I was hoping it would be as easy as this. I just have to use my original SIM card, correct? Can I move the S5 to line 2 after?

Use L2's upgrade, cut L1's SIM to Nano, put that in the phone bought with L2's upgrade.

Then when L1 is eligible, transfer the upgrade to L2, buy a new phone, and never ever ever use that phone on L1.
