[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I haven't kept up with this thread in a while and with all the posts the process keeps getting confusing.

I have two unlimited lines.
I added a third line with an lg dare for 9.99 per month.

I ordered an iPhone 5s "upgrade" from this new lg dare line.

It FINALLY arrived today.

So please correct me if I'm wrong.

I activate the new phone on the lg dare line and choose 2gb data plan.
I then reactivate the lg dare on that line and choose pay as you go data and/or call Verizon and tell them to removed data.

I then take the new iPhone and activate it on one of my unlimited lines (original droid RAZR maxx)

But...Sim cards not compatible so I'm assuming I can't activate online.

I'll have to go to the store, without my RAZR maxx, and with an empty Sim iPhone 5s, and ask them for a new Sim or to activate it on my RAZR maxx line.

Is this right ? Alternatively can I just call Verizon and ask them to ship me a new Sim for the iPhone....if so will they ask why?

Please help.

Thanks

I used the customer service chat and had them wipe the sim card after I reactivated the old phone. Then activated it on the unlimited line.

They didn't ask questions? I thought you couldn't wipe the Sim card like that

I can confirm that you can reprogram SIMs. Verizon sent me a new Galaxy S3, and had the old SIM from my Note 2. (They didn't include a new SIM card.) I popped it in there, did all the stuff on the VZW website (put in the SIM number) and wal-lah, had the S3 recognized.

SIM cards are reprogrammable, that's why I keep mine when I sell a phone.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm trying to transfer my unlimited data upgrade to a dumbphone; can anyone who has done this comment on where it shows that the unlimited data is the one whose contract is extended? I got to the last page before submitting the order and it said the contract would be on my dumbphone line! Just want to make sure as my dumbphone line is month to month and would like it to remain that way. Thanks!

My issue will be that after I activate the new iphone on the dumbphone line and then deactivate it and then activate it on my unlimited line, will a need a new Sim or will they be able to reprogram that same Sim on my iPhone? The RAZR maxx currently on my unlimited line had a different size Sim than the iPhone.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I went into the store and tried to move an upgrade off an unlimited line and was told that I would lose the unlimited data regardless of where I used the upgrade. I called BS as I had several discussions with CS in the last week to make sure I would not lose unlimited. A call to CS confirmed it. So I paid full price and used the device payment plan.

Once VZW goes to voice over LTE we wlll see an increase in data prices and a hard push on the unlimited data plans.

That's why people are doing it every single day! You should not go on there abs ask them anything about keeping unlimited or listen to anything they say about unlimited. Sorry you paid full price because you didn't need to.

And I have done the same thing over a half dozen time over the past years... There was no choice, store manager and rep on the phone telling the same story...

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Why were any vzw employees involved and/or discussing data plans?

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yeah that's my point, you don't ask them anything, you just do it!

Well seeing as I don't have access to VZW's system an employee had to be involved. I told them I had an upgrade to swap and the guy says, "You know you will lose the unlimited data on this line if you move the upgrade."

I have 2 feature phones with upgrades coming but I was not going to wait...

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If it's still within 14 days you can return everything and reverse all account changes. The process ignores human involvement entirely other than possibly having a CSR fix one thing per call, such as forcing a SIM off of a line if it's sticking. Other than that, 100% should be done online or one step per phone call. The reason that customer service and other Verizon employees are not involved is that they're mostly either ignorant or outright lying, the result of which is the customer getting screwed. Please let us know if there are any questions, the entire process can (and probably should) be done online. Or if you're happy with your device/payment plan, then we'll just use this as a learning experience for future shoppers :)

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

When I try to move the upgrade online it won't let me. I get it moved and then start the upgrade process shooting the device and then I get "the page can't be displayed" and it kicks the upgrade back to the unlimited line.

It is almost worth it to not have to deal with the fricking hassle and run around.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So got the Note 3 today on a line I have with a dumb phone. Activated it and sent a text message and made a phone call and it came up on the "dumbphone line". Logged into my Verizon account and tried to put the dumb phone back on the line to get the note 3 onto my unlimited line and I get this error message. Our records indicate you recently purchased a device for this MDN but have not activated it yet. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,
Rich

Same thing happened to me, just call and tell them you need to put a phone on that line, don't tell them why are anything like that. They will do it for you.

Yes, that happens when you want to pre-order a phone. For phones already released you don't get that "the page can't be displayed" page. Seems to be a bug in their website. If it was the Note 3 you should be able to order it now. Also you could use the verizon30 coupon code and save $90
