[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I bought a Razr Maxx HD at Costco. They activated it there on my wife's basic phone line. I re-activated her old phone yesterday and it is up and running. When I went to activate the Razr on my unlimited line it is giving me the message device request failed cannot be completed online. I also tried activating it on her line again, but it gives me the same message. So not sure what is going on.

Can you buy a phone at Costco and de activate it without paying a fee? I know some places other then the Verizon store you can not do that. Check your contact with them. That may be the reason.

As of a month or so ago, yes. Costco, Best Buy and Verizon stores were the confirmed places it was safe.

Does the GN have the same size SIM as the S4? If so give it a shot and let us know what happens. It shouldn't hurt anything to try.

Challenge accepted!

And......It worked!.....well, maybe....

After I inserted my sim card from my unlimited line galaxy nexus, the new S4 turned on and displayed my number. I texted my wife and she responded. So, it looks like it worked. Only issue is on My Verizon, it still shows the Galaxy Nexus as my unlimited phone. So, we shall see what happens after a little time. I will report back what happens.

Yes no fee at Costco. Just the normal 2 year contract extension on her line that I can see on the paperwork. So I don't think that is the problem.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

This "Transfer Upgrade" blue text does not exist for me. Any ideas why? I'm on Nationwide Talk & Text plan, don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Do you see pictures of all three of your phones? What does it say underneath the pictures? Are you sure you're up for an upgrade? Usually would say "Upgrade Available on ## / ## / ## " and "Upgrade at Full Price" What does the date show? I don't have any upgrades available on any of my 5 lines right now so I don't see the "Transfer Upgrade" button either. But my phone does show "Upgrade Available on 08/15/13" so I would anticipate after that date the "Transfer Upgrade" button should reappear.

It now shows the new S4 as my unlimited line phone, and still says unlimited.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I ordered my phone from the website. Got it, but it wouldn't activate. Took it to the Verizon place where he activated over an iPad for the dummy number.

Reactivated the old phone on the dummy number. Now I'm getting the "Your Device Change request failed and cannot be completed online. Please contact Customer Service at 1.800.922.0204" error when I try to add the S4 to my actual line.

Any workarounds?

I am glad you figured a way to get it to work. I can't do that since the phone I am replacing is the HTC Rezound which has the bigger sim card so I can't just move it over to the Razr.

The two iPhones on the left have their upgrades available as you can see from the picture. They also both have unlimited. I am trying to transfer their upgrades to the white iPhone 5 which is on a limited plan but "Transfer Upgrade" remains elusive.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks. Hopefully you can call and get a friendly csr to get yours to work.
good luck!

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If I have 1 line and add a new one to my old unlimited plan can I get the gs4 at the subsidized price? And will I be able to transfer it to my unlimited without a "dumb phone" to use the 2nd line?

After you select the device you get the option to do it. At least my unlimited data line gave me the option to transfer the upgrade after I selected the phone.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi,

I'm planning to purchase the new Samsung Galaxy S4 and keep my unlimited data plan. Initially, I thought I'll look around EBay and purchase an S4 at a slightly cheaper cost than a retail store. I'm assuming the phones were purchased using the seller's upgrade discount, but they weren't activated. Will purchasing one of these s4s on ebay cause me to lose my unlimited data plan? I thought I read somewhere that you can't activate an upgraded phone (a phone purchased by upgrade discount) and keep your original unlimited data plan.

Thanks

I've tried this as well. I also tried selecting the phone, going to the screen to purchase a new phone, and then seeing if "Transfer Upgrade" appeared anywhere based on a rep's suggestion. Nada. I'll just try doing it in-store and see what they say.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I did the transfer upgrade a week ago, from my note2 unlimited data line to an iphone line. I bought a q10 on contract on the iPhone line.

Now when the q10 arrives, I will activate it on the iphone line. Do I have to have the iPhone in hand, as its not my phone? Also ordered the sim card with it. So how does the sim card work when I activate the new q10 on iphone line? And also when I activate iphone back onto the line?

After I switch iphone back onto the iphone line, do I need to wait 24 hours to activate the q10 onto my note2 line? Also do I just put the sim from my note2 into the new phone?

Want this to go smoothly so I keep my unlimited.

sent from my Verizon Note2...

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Well this is a follow up to the problem I was having on activating my new Razr Maxx HD that I had upgraded on my wife's line. I was having the same problem Jon1029 was when trying to activate online after I had put her basic phone back on her line. It would say unable to process please contact customer service. I thought maybe it had not released the phone, but after 3 days it still was giving me the same problem. It also may have been the HTC Rezound I was switching with had the bigger sim card not sure about that. I know Jon1029 was able to get his to activate just by switching the sim cards. Today I decided to try and do it using Live chat. It worked just great. I did have an extra sim card. The person at Costco had given me one for the Razr and for the Rezound when we told them we were going to switch what line the phone was on after the upgrade. I am not sure I needed to switch that out but I did anyways. The person on chat asked what I needed. I told them the problem I was having. They said no problem. Though when they asked if the phone was an upgrade or third party I told them it was third party. After that I gave them the new sim card number and the device id and about 4 minutes later it was activated on my line with unlimited data intact. Hopefully this helps anyone else that is having similar trouble. Thanks for all the information in this forum.

Just thought I'd update everyone in case it helps.

I waited the 24 hours because Verizon has a page that says you must wait that long for the device to deactivate. That didn't work. So I called Verizon and talked to someone. He was able to activate the phone, and warned me that I'd lost unlimited data unless I was switching from another line. I explained that I was doing the workaround and he said that made it easier. He was able to activate the phone, and I keep unlimited data. So if you have any issues, call Verizon. I was surprised, but they will help you out.
