[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

so far so good after 3 days, til Unlimited with Contract End date 2016

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

Has anyone tried this when needing a different size sim? I have a Droid Maxx which uses a nano sim I believe, whereas most phones uses micro sims.

no, most phones now use nano SIM cards except for phablets like the GNote3. What phone are you interested in getting?

If your old phone and your new phone have different size SIM cards, you can cut down a too large SIM card or use an adapter for a too small SIM card.

And remember, it is just the initial activation that you have to use the old SIM card for. After that, you can get a new properly sized SIM card for your phone free from Verizon in store or by mail. You just can't use the SIM card that shipped with the device.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

You will need an adapter to mirror the micro sim card, as long as your existing card is used during the initial activation of the new phone, you should be able to retain your UDP...

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I should add that you can assume liability on someone else's grandfathered UDP line and add that to your individual line. But you have to find someone who wants to sell their UDP line. And I am not sure how it all works with the Jetpacks. If you want to inquire about AOL of a UDP line for a jetpack, please start a new thread. There are posters here who know all about that kind of stuff and they will be more likely to see it if you start a thread about it.
I was thinking about dropping my jetpack and adding a UDP Moto X and using it to thether. Thanks for the best buy link.

OK got it. You can do an AOL and add a UDP line to your account and then change the phone number on the new line. But the price on the UDP lines has gone up quite a bit in recent months as there are fewer for sale. Check ebay and craig's list if you are interested. Someone once posted a link to an online site for AOLing lines but I can't remember the site.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

Best Buy will have the GNote 3 for $199 tomorrow according to someone on the phone deals thread. So $150 after gift card.

If you just bought it, Best Buy will price match if you are within I think 15 days of purchase.

Because I'm new to this what does AOL mean? I could figure out UDP, I know AOL has some thing to do with an already active line but not 100% sure.

Assumption of liability.

When someone else has a phone contract and wants out of it, you can assume liability and it will be yours. They will do this even if the phone line is off contract. You have to pass a credit check.

If you don't pass the credit check, they make you put a deposit, I believe $400 per line

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

My GSIII has still been holding up quite well since I bought it in December 2012, though I've been following this discussion for a little while contemplating a replacement.
Of course since I'm on unlimited I want to keep it. My car has a Nexus 7 (2012) in-dash and having no data limit is quite nice.

But what phone would be worth the cost and potential for losing my UDP? (not that I would, as it sounds like there is a great success rate here).
Was doing some reading up on the LG G2 and went into the Verizon store to play with one. And I must say, I'm sold.

BUT: Best Buy online seems to be sold out of them (for the last 4-5 days) and I've watched my local stores show up as not having any G2's in stock over the last couple days.

This sucks! And now it looks like Best Buy bumped the price to $99.99 from $49.99 (not that it matters if they have no stock).
So my question is: has anyone else noticed the lack of stock and/or know anything about it? Perhaps LG is having a hard time delivering units based on demand?

They did that because of the $50 reserve gift card. Did you sign up for it?

I posted a bunch of places on this forum that it was the last day to sign up but Ry removed my posts. WTF? Heck, they even banned me at iMore for posting that it was the last day, lol! Idjuts over there on iMore.

Really, who would think me posting to help remind people it was the last day to sign up for FREE MONEY was a problem? They said it was advertising. Well then every thread about phone deals is advertising, lol! I don't work for Best Buy for goodness sake. The Best Buy trick to keep UDP actually screws Best Buy out of a commission.

I would ask this on the LG G2 forum as those are the posters most likely to know.

BB has had the $50 gift card deal for a little while, and it was just yesterday that they upped the price from $49.99 to $99.99 unfortunately. The phone would have been $102 including tax, then take off the $50 for BB gift card. And yes, I did :)

Not really that concerned, TBH. Basically if this is a Best Buy-related issue (lack of stock) I figured this may be a good place to ask, since this thread is about Verizon phones through Best Buy :p

Just tried chatting with a Best Buy representative. Naturally they don't have more information other than what's on the website regarding anticipated restocking dates.

Verizon: Unlimited data Plan - How Much Longer?

I am planning to take the extra steps to keep my UDP. Does anyone know if Verizon can just terminate UDP at anytime and place you on a limited plan? I would not want to go through the trouble and expense if there is a chance of it being eliminated.

THX

There have been no announcements about Verizon ending UDP for customers who don't use their upgrades who end up being month to month.

Re: Unlimited data Plan - How Much Longer?

Does Verizon still offer the 6gb plan to unlimited data users? And can you upgrade the phone at a discounted price using the 6gb plan?

AFAIK, yes. I believe this either has to be done in-store or over the phone. (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)

Re: Unlimited data Plan - How Much Longer?

Personally, I don't think that they would outright kill UDP. At most they might make a new feature(such as volte) incompatible with the UDP plans, but would allow you to keep UDP so long as you use a compatible device.

Similar to how the old digital choice plans are not compatible with 3g or 4GLTE devices but if you used a 1x phone that was compatible then you could keep the plan ad infinitum. Keep in mind though that those on the digital choice unlimited plan, should they choose to upgrade to a current device, must choose a current plan. Meaning that they would be unable to get the legacy individual or family plans which allowed for UDP.

Or they could treat UDP like they do non GPS devices. You can maintain a non gps device ad infinitum, but if you ever deactivate it, you wouldn't be able to reactivate it or any other non gps device .

Yes they are offering..and you can upgrade once...

after the 2 year contract is over, and want to upgrade, you will be forced to either pay full price for the 6GB plan, or choose the 2GB plan at the same price
