[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

No. Insert old sim and power on. That's it.

Does your SIM card pop out just fine even though its thicker? I'm just now reading that it's wise to sand down a little bit of it since the nano SIM is like .2mm and a micro SIM is like .4mm. Did it get stuck if you try to pull out the SIM tray? I just wouldn't want mine to get stuck.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I am going to do this trick now for my mother after I have successfully done it with my S5. There is one catch, I could not find a well described enough answer for this - i am pretty lost here. My mother has an Iphone 4s. It has a micro sim card. She wants the S5. Will this trick work if I replace it with her SIM? NOTE: the Iphone 4s is NOT 4G LTE, so I am not sure if this trick will work for her, she does however have an UDP on her iphone. Is there a way I can make the switch for her to an S5 and have her keep the UDP? Will just replacing the SIM work?

Hmm. It was snug going in. Not sure if I'll have problems removing it.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I am trying to upgrade from a Droid 3 to a GS4. The Droid 3 had a mini-SIM card, which I trimmed to a micro-SIM card using the new micro-SIM card as a guide.

When I place the trimmed card into the GS4 and power on, it hangs at the activation screen for ten minutes, then times out with an activation error.

Next I tried activating the GS4 using Verizon's activation page at

https://forums.androidcentral.com/e.../nso/enterDeviceId.do?zipRdr=y&token=OJzsjzJz

The SIM number from my Droid 3's mini-SIM is only 19 digits long. When I attempt to activate my new GS4 on the Verizon activation page, it says:

The SIM ID Code was invalid. Please make sure you entered the number correctly and try again. Please enter another SIM Card number or purchase a new SIM.

To make sure of this, I even moved the card back to my Droid 3 and ran a SIM reporting app, and sure enough, the reported SIM number was 19 digits long.

The SIM number on the purchase order (for the new SIM card) is 20 digits long. Do the newer phones require 20-digit SIM numbers? Am I screwed here?

Edit: Apparently I am screwed, as my Droid 3 is not a 4G phone (and therefore does not have a 4G SIM card).

You would need to buy a cheap 4g phone and activate it on your line before doing the upgrade

Or purchase the necessary sim card from a source other than Verizon .

What phone were you using before?
You can always request a SIM card from Verizon, activate it on her line using your old phone if it's a 4g device (I assume it would be 4g since you have successfully updated your line using this method), then upgrade your mom's line from best buy online

Thanks for the advice! Does it need to be purchased through Verizon or a reseller, or would a used phone from Ebay serve the same purpose?

This sounds like the most promising route. I see many Verizon micro-SIM cards listed on Ebay.

However... doesn't the UDP transfer work because you're activating the new phone with the original SIM card used for the UDP phone? Or is the only thing that matters that you activate the new phone with anything *but* the SIM card that came with it?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Have been month to month for a bit waiting to figure out how not to lose my UDP after upgrading my Razr Maxx. Debating the M8, Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 5C. I understand by this thread, if i go M8 or S5, all i would have to do is remove Sim from new phone and insert sim from my Razr Maxx. What i am not sure of if these are direct swaps or if i'd have to cut my Razr Maxx sim down to fit the M8 or S5. Also if i go the iPhone route, how do i go about doing that? As my current sim will not direct swap into an iPhone or will it? Thanks for the thoughts and guidance in advance. Also any thoughts on these 3 phones would be appreciated a i'm not real sure which direction i'm going. I just know my Razr Maxx is really in need of an upgrade. Thanks again.

The Razr Maxx uses a micro SIM so you would have to cut out to nano size for iPhone 5c or M8, you would be able to use your SIM as is in the s5

When I went from an S4 to the M8, I trimmed down my micro sim to a nano and used a nail file to sand it down a bit. Worked like a charm. I didn't need to take too much off and it went in fine.

I just removed the sim card. No problem at all.

@Jukii05 - did you sand the backside of the sim?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

First off, thanks to everyone for all the posts. I would say I've read through about 50% of the posts here (it's 111 pages, so i'd say that's pretty good for not having started following when the first post was written:) ). Yesterday I tried to upgrade using the BB method. I've got a galaxy nexus now, and trying to get the M8. Yesterday it was forcing me to add a "per line usage fee" of $40, so of course I cancelled it and got sad (haha). Today, I decided I'd try again, and to my surprise, it allowed me to keep my data and did NOT ask me to have a $40 usage fee. So far so good, the phone comes to me next monday/tuesday and it DOES say "no change to data plan" on my receipt. I got that same warning everyone else got on the first page, but I'm not concerned. Yesterday I also ordered from Amazon a nano/micro sim adaptor (comes with 3 adaptors, a nano->micro, nano->full, micro->full). I'm planning on heading over to Verizon tomorrow (when the adaptor comes in) and asking them for a new nano-sim. Hopefully they'll just give it to me, no questions asked. I'll pop the nano into my adaptor (nano->micro), then throw that in my current Galaxy Nexus phone (which requires a micro sim). Hopefully it'll just start to work (I'm not sure what the normal process is for changing sims, as i've not ever done it before?) If that works, I believe all I'll need to do is simply transfer that nano sim into my M8 when it comes next week. Does this process sound right to y'all?

Again, thanks to all of you for continuing to update this thread and let us know that it's still working. Hoping it works for me (of course I'll update everyone once i know), and hoping VZW doesn't wise-up and try to "get" us all, switching us to a tiered plan......

Here's to 2 more years of unlimited data, with a subsidized, new phone :) *cheers*

**** I'll be writing in the OTHER ("best buy mobile lets me" blah blah blah) thread from now on, since I don't want to sully this thread, but so far it's working for me :) ******

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Is there a reason why you guys preferred to file down / cut your micro sim into a nano sim, as opposed to buying a nano->micro sim card adaptor, and going into verizon to get a new nano-sim? I've got a galaxy nexus, and just bought the m8 online @ BB. I also bought an adaptor on amazon for like 6 bucks, and i'm going to head into verizon tomorrow to get a nano sim. Hoping to take that nano, pop it into my galaxy nexus with the adaptor, and activate it (or whatever it is that you need to do), which hopefully won't trigger any kind of an update to my data plan. Then, when my m8 comes next week, i'm hoping to pop it into that phone, and viola, hoping it'll work. Good plan?

Yes I did. I didn't sand the metal part, as that would render the SIM card useless.
