[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

They sell nano to micro adapters. You can use the adapter then once it's activated have Verizon give you a nano sim.

Oh wow. Didn't know there were adapters. Sweet! Thanks man.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

So I guess I'm out on this work around. I canceled my first order due to a pre-activation failure, and I received another "there is a problem with your mobile order..." email from BB for my re-order.

Does anyone know if transferring a UDP phone upgrade to a capped data line then switching the phone back to the UDP still works?

Some say yes. When I tried this route online, the site (Verizon) would try and force a tiered plan on me.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

So far so good. Order went through just fine, I'll receive the phone tomorrow. Nothing has changed on Verizon's end, still UDP. I'll keep you all updated.

I suspect you will report back everything went as planned. 😊

I currently have the Galaxy Nexus. I'm about to order a GS5 from Verizon. Will this trick work for me?

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Reporting a successful attempt with UDP. This is my second successful activation with UDP.

-Went on BB.com to transfer my UDP line upgrade to a dumb phone line since the phone I wanted was cheaper at BB
-Received the new phone with a Nano SIM already installed. FYI you can turn on the new phone with the new SIM in it as long as you don't go though the activation.
-Ordered a micro SIM to nano SIM cutter since I didn't want to risk doing it myself and my old phone's SIM card didn't fit in the new phone
-Cut my SIM card and inserted it into the new phone
-Once you turn on the phone, Verizon will say that your SIM card has already been activated to your number. Just complete the setup and you are good to go! It was that easy.

It does take like a an hour for verizonwireless.com to show that you have a new phone so don't fret. It has been over 2 hours now and the website shows the new phone associated with my number and unlimited data still in force. I will followup in a few days to make sure it's still unlimited.

P.S. You don't need to activate the new phone on the dumb line first like in my case. When I did that to another line before, I had to call Verizon to associate that SIM card to my number. But then again I went from a smartphone that didn't use a SIM card to one that used one for 4G.

Let me know if you guys have any questions.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Just to update .... I've successfully downloaded the PDF template to cut my Galaxy Nexus' Micro-Sim down to a Nano-Sim. I definitely did NOT think it was going to work. But I did it, put the "cut" nano sim into a nano->micro adaptor, and plugged the whole shebang back into my Galaxy Nexus. GalNex turned on fine, and i did NOT get the missing sim notification. I am still able to receive emails/texts/phone calls, so so far so good. My HTC M8 is coming tomorrow. Verizon website currently says that i still have unlimited data, still shows my GalNex, but like others have reported, contract date now says april 2016. I'm guessing when i get the new phone and pop my cut-Nano into the phone (BEFORE turning it on), I should be all good, and VZW site should show my new M8 as my current phone? I'll update again tomorrow night probably. Wish me luck, so far so good! :)

Again, huge thanks to everyone here for sharing this info!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Cool. Thanks a lot for the info. I'm pretty sure the SIM card is a different size. My current phone is a Samsung Droid Charge which uses the micro. Most current phones use the nano.

I think only the iPhone and the HTC M8 (and one other I don't remember) use Verizon nano sim. My Note 3 uses a micro SIM. Even if so a SIM comes with the phone. I believe If you activate the phone online it will ask you for the number on the new SIM and associate your account with the new SIM.

Is the SIM that comes with the phone already assigned to a line? Can't you activate a phone with it and associate the SIM with your UDP line?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

You need to use your account PIN not your account password. If you don't know your PIN you might need to call VZW customer support and request a new one. It isn't very intuitive because the BB page says "password" not "PIN" but if you chat with BB suport they give you this answer. Source, I went through this yesterday when I bought my UPD upgraded HTC one!

Also, Amazon does not have this loophole.

I've tried this as well, still can't get it to log in. I called VZW to double check my PIN number and I was using the correct one. Should I try to reset my PIN anyways?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

This trick worked with me for my switch from the nexus to the s5.

My mother wants to do the switch from an iphone 4s to an s5 but keep her UDP as well.

I was told to have my mom get my nexus (previous phone of mine) activated since it needs to be with a 4g sim card.

Can i use the unused sim from the s5 that i have? because i used the sim from my nexus for my s5.

Also will this even work at all? once she is switched to my nexus and has her UDP, if i use that sim and put it in her new s5 before turning it on would it still work? even if it is done right away?

Don't use the new SIM that came with the S5. Take the GNex to Verizon tell them you want to activate it on her line and they will put a SIM in it and activate it. Then she is set. Just order the new phone and when you get it put the SIM from the GNex into the new phone.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Okay,

I have reset my PIN through Verizion. When I try to do the upgrade process, it says "Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again." I have tried to enter the phone number
xxx-xxx-xxx, xxxxxxxxxx, made sure caps isn't on, I've done basically everything I can think of. I installed Firefox, didn't work. I tried Internet explorer, it said my session had been idle for more than 30 minutes, even though I just opened the page.. I'm very frustrated.. Can someone please help me out ?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I screwed up already! Wahhhh.
I used a template to cut my old sim and opened the door on my new phone. Its not even close. my sim is now too small.
I screwed up big time. Im screwed arent I?

Yes if you don't want to cut the SIM or don't have an extra SIM card lying around, you can activate the SIM card on the dummy line and then go onto verizonwireless.com and switch device. But you will have to call Verizon and tell then to associate the new SIM card with your UDP number. Which is what I had to do when I first attempted this loophole when going from a 3G to 4G device. If you already have 4G SIM card available, I wouldn't bother activating that new SIM on the dummy line since it's just an extra step to do. Not to mention you can buy a SIM cutter for $4 shipped from Amazon.
