[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Did you order your G3 on BB's website? I've been looking and it still requires you to go to the store even though the phone is technically available now. Annoying!

It doesn't say free shipping anywhere?

It does on the product page (contradictory since it also says not available for shipping - only Verizon has this), but not once you go to your cart:

i purchased the phone on the verizon website, they did charge me for an activation fee, so technically the phone was around 137$

Thanks, I should have read back to your prior posts. BB also charges that bogus $35 upgrade fee. So from what I gather, you basically did a standard upgrade through the Verizon site and switched SIMs and it let you keep UDP? I thought you had to choose a new plan.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The other 3 lines are part of a family shared plan on my account. My line is the original line on the account.

I think I am going to give it a try. I currently have an HTC DNA(Yes, you should pity me!) and my data connection drops out several dozen times a day. I really need a new phone!

Good luck, let us know what you did and how it went.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I went ahead and transferred the upgrade to my wife's line and purchased a LG G3. Hopefully all goes well, worst case is I am forced to go with the loyalty 6gb for $30/mo plan.

It is funny, my wife works at an authorized Verizon retailer and even she is under the assumption that I would lose my unlimited plan, although she has never tried this type of upgrade from customers as she is expected to tell them that it cannot be done.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I seem to have successfully managed an upgrade and kept my unlimited data! Its been about 3 weeks and it still lists unlimited.

I had one iPhone 4s on unlimited data
1 dummy phone
(Both were month to month)

I ordered a galaxy s5 through best buy's website on the dummy line. I didn't initially find the preloaded sim card so I ordered one on verizon's website. I then realized the new sim card was already loaded in the galaxy s5 so I activated the new phone on the dummy line. At that point, I planned to switch the new phone over to my unlimited line. Verizon's website would not let me do this since I had ordered a sim card online. Disappointed, I decided to call verizon to see if they could cancel the sim card order. They could not but were able to switch the phones for me. I mentioned I'd ordered the phone for my mom but she decided it was too big so we decided to switch phones, etc. She said the switch would not effect my data plan. The rep was very helpful and said it was good I called because I would've lost unlimited had I attempted myself. Sooo I basically stumbled through the directions other people had posted and it somehow still worked! Thanks for all the tips! :)

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

should work fine once it's available for shipping, unfortunately it's only available for in store pick up right now. Wanted to pull the trigger on the g3 myself but no dice.

I hope it's available to ship before the sale ends :/

Best buy has nothing to do with the activation fee. That's all verizon.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Line 1 UDP
Line 2 Dummy
Has anyone done an alternate upgrade from UDP line to Dummy line for the G3 at BB online, gone into store to pick up order, activate G3 with new sim on dummy line while still being able to keep UDP on first line?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I still can't figure out how to get my galaxy 5 to work to make phone calls. I put in my Sim card from my iPhone 4s and it isn't working. :(

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do??

I called verizon today. They are sending me a new sim card for the galaxy. Should be here tuesday....ugh, more waiting. :/ My question still is.... I don't have a dummy line, how can I be sure I don't lose my UDP??

Yeah, me too, went and checked it out in the store, pretty impressive device.

If only the in store pickup would work.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I am glad this is still working for everyone. I still have my UDP, I will assume that once everything upgrades to XLTE that we won't be part of that but that is okay. I would rather stay with 4g and have unlimited than XLTE and have a cap.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Update

Best Buy will not ship the G3 to your home...ever. Although the rep initially said it was due to lack of adequate stock at the warehouse, today, reps commented that it is now policy that all Verizon cells be activated in the store. It has nothing to do with stock availability. It's almost impossible to swap out the SIM card at the store prior to phone activation. So the only way to keep UDP is to use a dummy line.

For myself, I ended up using Verizon Max since I never go beyond 3GB/month, and opening 2 additional dummy lines to upgrade mine and my wife's phone will be more expensive. To us, it didn't make sense to keep the UDPs. Good luck to the rest of you!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have a UDP line that is eligible for an upgrade and a dumb phone and two smart phone lines that are not eligible yet.

If I order an LG G3 through Verizon, should I transfer my upgrade to the dumb phone line or one of the smart phone lines or will it matter?

It doesn't matter as long as you transfer the upgrade off your UDP line. When you get it just take the SIM from your UDP line and put it in your new G3 and you're done.

Does the same best buy method work when ordering via verizon.com?

And does the dummy line have to be the primary line to do the alternate upgrade?

A person in another thread that best buy won't ship out Orders anymore. It has to be in store activated. Make much sense?
