[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Your wife will need to upgrade first; however, I would recommend you do the following:

1.) Use your wife's upgrade to order your phone first.
If I use my wife's upgrade, does it extend my UDP contract? Or will it extend after I transfer my upgrade to her when she uses MY upgrade from my UDP. Its not clear in the other posts what actually extends the UDP contract

2.) Activate this phone on your wife's plan. This puts your phone on a tiered data plan and uses up her upgrade.

3.) Reactive your wife's old phone on her plan. This will free up your phone to be added your line.
How do you do this? If she reactivates her old phone then the new phone deactivates?

4.) Active the new phone on your plan. Now the phone you want is on the UDP.
When I activate the new phone on my plan, so I have to cut my SIM card on my old phone and insert it into this new phone at this point? It'll have the sim card from her previous activation.
4.) Transfer your upgrade to your wife.
5.) Upgrade your wife's phone as normal giving her the phone she wants.

All of this can be done through Verizon's website. It is pretty easy and shouldn't take a lot of time.

The line that the upgrade originates from is the one that gets extended. In step 1, by using your wife's upgrade, it will be her line that gets extended to a new 2 years. When you transfer your upgrade (later in the steps), this will extend your line for a new 2 years.

To activate or switch phones on the lines, it's a fairly simple process. When you log into Verizon online, there should be a link called "Activate or Switch Devices" located just to the right of "My Devices" on the main homepage. All you need to do is click this link and follow the directions. Select your wife's phone number. Now you will have two options: Activate or Switch. If you select activate a previously used device on this account, you can reselect your wife's old phone. This frees up the new iPhone for you to do the same thing (i.e. select your number and activate a previously used phone will show the new iPhone) as it becomes deactivated. If you switch devices, the new phone will go on your line and your current phone will go to your wife. You will not need to cut any SIMs by doing either method. If you want to test this, you can do it right now by logging in and selecting "Activate or Switch Devices". I'd recommend logging in and taking a quick peek at this section. Once you see it, you'll see that it is fairly straightforward.

Keep unlimited data with iPhone 6 Plus

I have read through several of the threads about how to keep your unlimited data, but I must admit that I am still pretty confused. Can someone tell me the best way to go about keeping my unlimited data on my line.

1 line with iPhone 5s unlimited data eligible for upgrade
1 line with basic phone

Thanks.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

So I've done this method for my line but I'd like to try my wife's

Problem is she has an iPhone 4s with a 3g SIM. Here's my plan, tell me if this is correct.

1. With my old galaxy nexus, contact VZW and ask for a 4g SIM for her line. - done
2. Activate that phone on her line.
3. Pre order iphone 6 from best buy
4. Ask for nano SIM when it arrives

Would this work? Is there a preferred way to get new SIM cards? Can you have them shipped or do you have to go in store. In person?

The iPhone 6 page on Apple.com states that it is "not compatible with existing micro-SIM cards"

I am assuming this just means the size issue?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

If I transfer an upgrade to a TDP account to order the iPhone 6 from Apple and have it shipped to my house, then put the sim card from my UDP phone to the new iPhone, it should keep the UDP plan with it correct? Has anyone had any experience with ordering directly from Apple?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

hello all, if i do the BB method, and extend my contract by 2 years, will that help me avoid being throttled coming October first?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Do I have any good options here? I have:

1- dumb phone. Upgrade eligible.
2- dumb phone. Upgrade eligible.
3- LTE smartphone, eligible December
4- LTE smartphone, eligible December

If I want a new UDP phones now, best option I can see is use the upgrades on lines 1 and 2, and agree to 24month data. Activate on lines 1 and 2, Cancel and pay etf, move the phones to line 3/4.

Any better ideas?

Thanks!

Re: Methods that will allow you to both get a subsidized phone and keep UDP after 8/24/14

Hi All,

WIth all the strategies that are out there, I am totally confused. So could you please advise me as to what route to follow. Here is my situation:

Line 1, iPhone 4s with UDP 3G
Line 2, iPhone 4s with UDP 3G
Both of them contain a micro-sim card.

I want to upgrade to the iPhone 6 which I believe has a nano sim card and is LTE. What should I do? Is the best way to go the Best Buy way and then cut the sim cards of the 4S to fit into the iPhone 6? Will the 3G to LTE cause an issue?

Thanks
D

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Just got my phone (note 3 for $99 shipped from best buy) and as of today, and even a new billing cycle starting on the 8th, still have my UDP. Still works!

You will need to borrow/buy at least 1 4G phone. ( borrowed a friend's old 4G phone)
With that 4G phone go to a VZW store with you iPhone4S and have them switch your service to that 4G phone.

Once you have a working 4G SIM you can buy an iPhone 6 from BestBuy when it is eligible for shipping. Then you would swap the "old" SIM for the SIM which comes with the iPhone 6. Since the iPhone uses a nano-SIM you might have to cut it down to fit.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Here's my question if I can please get some help... ???
My upgrade is available 24OCT2014 on line #1 which has UDP, I want to do an early upgrade to the Iphone 6 on 12SEP2014. Line #2 has UDP but no upgrade
Line #3 no UDP and no upgrade
Line #4 no UDP and no upgrade ( no-one currently using this line). How to I upgrade early on line #1 to the iPhone 6 without losing UDP? I have tried this in the past with the problem when I get the new phone and try to activate it to a different number it will recognize that it was ordered for a different line on my account and will not let me activate??? Or the pending order will stick and customer service cannot remove... I am just trying to avoid hours of phone time with Verizon CS REPS... Thank you

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I have read the entire 83 pages and need one last confirmation. Will this work:
I have a SG3, I want to upgrade to LG G3 through Amazon because its cheaper. Does the method of SIM swap upon arrival work through Amazon? Please confirm this for me. Thanks in Advance

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Ordered G3 from best buy. Got email that there was issue with order. Called number in email and canceled order. Took less then 5 minutes. Did not have to give anything more then my order number. At this point BB already sent info to Verizon and my upgrade date got bumped out 2 years. Still had UD. Since I canceled the order I called Verizon. Little time and bam they fixed my date back. Had bill due and assuming this was the stop in the process based on prior posts. Not past due though. SO went ahead and paid that. Let it sit for a couple hours. Went back to BB and did order again. Phone on truck for delivery to me today. Will update once I can get it all activated.

Question for the masses. Have SG3 right now. Had a moto x and still have, but it is dead due to pool accident. So.. sim cards.. For the life of me can't find to confirm if SG3 sim will be good, or if need the moto x one? Got a cutter and adapter coming either way. Will update if and once all activated.

There has been past posts that this will work with amazon. The thing about it is with amazon, costco, etc... you have to pick a new plan to proceed. Others have had success though still just swapping sim even after going through that. I ponied up the extra bucks to do BB to get shots showing that I requested no change in my plan just for extra security. M 2 cents.. :)

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

So you're thinking line 1and 2 might be able to avoid the $30 data requirement this way?
