[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

There is no special sim card to my knowledge for iPhones. That's somewhat laughable tbh. Please report back once you switch out the sim.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Be extremely careful. Depending on how the SIM card was ordered by the VZW employee it can make you lose your UDP.
Yes someone reported earlier losing unlimited that way.

I'm pretty sure the VZW tech did not do anything to make me lose UDP. Now, if there is something he would have had to do to make me keep UDP, then I may be in trouble. At this point I guess I have to take my chances. I'd like to keep UDP, but not if it means my phone is crippled.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Has anyone used a 3rd party retailer (Best Buy, Amazon) and used an upgrade on a basic line since the new data requirement?

Specifically the method mentioned in the FAQ -- Upgrade utilizing a basic phone line

Did they force a data plan on the basic line? Is there any potential problems with the retailer regarding secondary ETF's, etc?

Amazon has always had a 180 day etf on data

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I transferred an upgrade from a basic line to a tdp line. As soon as the phone shipped (iphone 6 plus) the contract on the basic line was extended by 2 years on My Verizon. There was no pending activation. However I still activated the phone on the tdp line and kept it active for about 2 days. I then reactivated the old phone on my tdp line (I did it on My Verizon and had to swap SIM cards). I subsequently activated the iphone with the udp line on My Verizon and swapped sims. Therefore I now have udp with the iphone 6 with the old SIM card and extended the contract on the basic line without adding data to it. I believe that you do not need a new sim for nfc on iphone 6 because it is built into the phone.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Line 1 UDP upgrade avail(new g3)
Line 2 Dumb upgrade avail
Line 3 Dumb No upgrade(used back in Aug to get g3 on line 1)
Line 4 UDP No upgrade(new line from apple with iphon e5s)

Can I use the line 2 upgrade to get an iphone 6 to sell without getting stuck with data plan attached to line 2? (sim swap with line4? BBmethod?)
If not, I really don't need 4 line and would like to get rid of dumb line 2 but I need to keep its number and move it to dumb line 3. Can that be done?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Has anyone ever reported being charged the Amazon ETF after purchasing and using their old sim card?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have a method for turning a tiered data line into an unlimited data line via the usual upgrade process. Should work with 2 yr contract upgrades and full price upgrades but I haven't tested it yet. Also should work when adding a new line.

If anyone is willing to give it a try shoot me a pm I don't have the funds to test it myself. But the order is definitely being submitted with the unlimited data attached on the pending order.

Example: adding a new line to an existing nationwide family plan via the iconic portal:

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello. Just joined up, seems like some awesome stuff to learn on here! Anyway I'm in the same boat and trying to figure out my unlimited plan. I want to upgrade my phone. If I have to buy a full price phone I will but that's a last resort!

My droid upgrade available (udp)
My wife's (iPhone 4s). 2 gb plan (no upgrade until next year)
Other family member drioid 2 gb plan

Can I transfer my upgrade to my wife's phone and then switch it back to me? Or will it not work since she has 3G now , another question. If I give her my upgrade and we did switch, will we loose her upgrade for next year? Thanks!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi everyone, sorry for the question here that I'm sure has been answered somewhere already, but 284 pages is a lot to look through...

I have a Nationwide Talk and Text Share 700 plan with 2 lines that are both eligible for an upgrade, with unlimited data. I would like to keep the unlimited data on both lines (keep the same plan I'm on). I know I could buy phones outright, use Swappa, etc, but I would like to try the Best Buy method to do this. From what I understand, I could order a phone online at BB, have it delivered, and then use my old SIM for the new phone. However, one of the lines is using an old 3G phone (Droid Pro - don't judge, my wife doesn't care about upgrades as much as I do...), so I would need a new SIM for this line, correct? Can I get one from VZW and not be forced into a tiered data plan?

For my line, I would like to upgrade to the Note 4. I have read that I shouldn't pre-order and should wait until it is available if I want to keep the unlimited data - is that accurate? Also, will my SIM from my S3 work in the Note 4 (without having to do any cutting or modifying)? Or would I need to get a new SIM for this line too?

Thanks for the help everyone!

1) For the Droid Pro replacement you will need to at least temporarily get a working 4G phone on that line. Surely someone among your friends, family, co-workers must have an unused old Verizon 4G phone they would be willing to let you use for a week or two? (If not you will need to buy a cheap one from Swappa or eBay). Once you have an orphaned VZW 4G phone take it and the Droid Pro to a VZW store and ask them to give you a SIM for it and swap it for the Droid Pro on the acct. After it has been working about a week you just order a new device from BB and swap that "old" SIM into the new phone before ever powering on the new device...treat the SIM which comes with the new device like toxic waste.

2) Yes, you have to wait until the Note4 is shipping before you should order it. And the S3 sim is the same size so no cutting is required for you to use it when you finally get the Note4. BTW I have a Note 3 and love it so you will probably really love the Note4 and the camera upgrade over the Note 3.

Yes just transfer your upgrade to wife's 2gb plan. Order phone. If your Droid has compatible SIM you can just put it in new phone. If not you can activate it on wife's line, then put her iPhone back on line to free up the new phone then put new phone on you udp line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello,

I'm currently on the Nationwide Talk & Text Share 2000 Family Plan. We have three lines, 2 lines have 2gb data for $30 and my line has unlimited data. My line is the only line with the availability for an upgrade. If I'm to understand correctly, if I am interested in upgrading to the Note 4 when it comes out can I

1: Upgrade through bestbuy.com and then I just put my old sim card into the phone and I will keep my unlimited data, if there are any special methods to upgrading on their website please let me know.

or

2: Transfer my upgrade to one of the other two lines and just use the phone when it arrives and that will let me keep my unlimited data?
If I do this will the line that got my upgrade still be eligible for their own upgrade when it's available in July?

If I can take advantage of these methods that would be great I just want to make sure I can do this and I don't mess up :) Thank you.

Awesome thanks for the fast reply! So if I can get my sim to work, I should just fire up the new phone with it? Wasn't sure what way to do it, if getting it under hers and switching it or what. Now what happens to her upgrade if I do this? If she gets mine and then i take her phone , will hers be lost? Thanks again

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

For Note 4: Could you tell me why you should wait until orders are shipping vs. pre-ordering?
I have one UDP line w/upgrade and 1 TDP w/upgrade, if I pre-order under the TDP with intentions of switching out to UDP line w/SIM why would pre-ordering be an issue?
I only take a year contract (business line) and this is what I did last year with a pre-order and it was fine. Just wondering if there's a specific reason.

Yes before turning it on take out the SIM and put your UDP SIM in. It will then be on your UDP line. There will be a pending activation on your wife's line but that will just fall off anywhere from immediately to one week. This is with Verizon. One person reported the pending order not falling off when done through Best Buy.

Really appreciate your time, now will her upgrade stay with her if I do this or will it bounce to me and then I can give it back to her when it's time? Thanks abunch!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi all. I'm 76 years old and I can use some help here because I don't follow a lot of what is being written. I have unlimited data on Verizon and I watch a lot of Netflix on my phone. I want to get a Note 4 with the discount at Best Buy but don't want to lose my unlimited data. Is there a way to do that? If not, my son is also getting a new phone and he's eligible for an upgrade. He could get the Note 4 and just give it to me but he wants a new phone to (he would take a Note 3, though, so maybe there's a way to do that?). Is there a way to accomplish this without my having to purchase the Note 4 (or Note 3 if I get my son to order the 4 and I buy a 3 for him) at full price? Thank you very much for any assistance you might provide.

When you transfer the upgrade from Line1 UDP to Line2 TDP the Line1 UDP contract is extended 2 years but that plan doesn't change. The new thing is that the receiving line now has to stay on TDP for 2 years which is no big deal since it is already TDP. When another upgrade becomes available on her line you don't need to transfer it, just upgrade from there. Update us on how it goes.

What phone do you currently have? What kind of SIM is it using, is it 4G? Is there an available upgrade on your UDP line? What plan does your son have? Are both phones on the same account so that you can transfer upgrades from one phone to another?
