[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes that will work just make sure he understands he will loose his upgrade and he commits to keeping data on that line for 2 more years.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I can't seem to find what I'm looking for, so any advice would be appreciated.

Line 1 (my line, upgrade available 12/22/14) has a UDP. Additionally, I am an authorized user on my mothers Verizon account.

What I can't seem to find are the Best Buy directions for getting a new phone at 2yr activation price and keeping unlimited data.

What I recall and heard by mouth: 1. Order the new phone (Note 4) through Best Buy and have it shipped to my house. Accept the ToS in regards to changing to a tiered data plan (even though this should never occur). 2. Upon receiving the new device, chop and throw out the SIM card that originally came with it and transfer the micro-SIM currently in my Note 2 to it.

This should allow me to maintain my unlimited data plan on my line by using my upgrade still. Can someone quickly verify that I didn't miss any steps? Or do I need the actual account holders information to make the purchase through Best Buy?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Finally looking to upgrade both of our Bionics (which we bought upon release). All 5 lines on the account are eligible for upgrade. 3 UPD and 2 Basics. I should be able to order (Bestbuy or ??) new phones by using the upgrades from both basic lines. Separate transactions, I assume would be best in case this gets botched? I can even space them out over a few weeks to make sure it takes without incident.

As I read the newer sticky, I see nothing that tells me that using an eligible upgrade from the dumb phones will be OK. Is that still true? I read yesterday toward the end of this daunting thread that there may be a new contract tied to the dumb phone upgrades and I screw myself by swapping out new phones to UDP lines and trying to drop old dumb phones back to basic. Or, did I read correctly that as long as I don't activate the phone on the dumb line and just swap the sim (likely modified? -please clarify if I need to do that too) I'd be OK?

Lots of questions and I appreciate the insight.

Your method is correct and should work.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

SOS!!!! Someone please help!

What if I used my uncle's TDP upgrade (NOT on my account) Since I want to keep my unlimited.
How would I go about doing that?

1. Purchase the phone on his account
2. Activate it on his account, send a few texts, etc
3. Take the phone out and put back his old phone
4. Put my sim card (From my iPhone 5) into the phone
????

Would that work?
Any help would be greatly appreciated but I really need this solved, as I don't want to mess up my uncles account!!
Yes, that would work.

Verizon will require data on the dumb-phone upgrades for the two years. If you order from a third party (best buy) and don't activate on the dumb-phone line it will not trigger the data.

So order for delivery from best buy. When you get the phones do not turn on and immediately remove and destroy the sim. Activate on your unlimited line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Quick question, I have 1 basic line and 1 UDP line atm. The basic line wants to get a smartphone, so basically soon it'll be a tiered line. When I order the phone on the basic line and activate it with the SIM that comes with it it'll become a tiered 2GB.

My plan is to then transfer the phone to the UDP line and then transfer the upgrade from the UDP to the now tiered line and let them get whatever phone they want. But my question is do I reuse the SIM that was used to activate the basic originally or do I use the new one that comes.

Any one have insight on this?

Thanks!

2 more questions...

1. Could I order the phone on another user in the account who has an upgrade right now, then just again throw away the SIM card and use it for me?

2. Does the 2 yr. activation follow the phone? The account it was activated on? Or the account from which the upgrade was used from?

1. Yes

2. It follows the line which the upgrade came from.

Small bump since it's a new page and still hasn't been answered yet! (feeling left out here!) :'(

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I would reuse the UDP sim if you are transferring the UDP upgrade to tiered data.

Oh right, I meant for the tiered line that's accepting the upgrade. Since they activated the previous phone with the SIM that came with the device and later deactivate the phone to transfer to the UDP line (which the UDP line will pop in their UDP SIM). Do they use that very same SIM that was used to activate the previous phone or do they toss that out and use the new one that comes with the transfer upgrade.

Discard the one that comes with the phone when you transfer the upgrade

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just a quick note, I used the BB method on my Unlimited data line the Sat. after black Friday for an LG G3, my account has added the 2 years, still shows unlimited data, old phone was replaced with LG G3, no pending activation. Just wanted to wait a couple of weeks before sharing to make sure there were no problems. Thanks to everyone on this site for your help.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So paranoid about losing Verizon UDP that I wanted to log in and ask just to make sure I don't screw something up.

Line 1 - UDP under contract til 9/15
Line 2 - UDP month to month
Line 3 - TDP under contract till 6/15
Line 4 - TDP under contract till 6/15

I'm going to be doing this via VZW.com

Step 1: Transfer upgrade from line 2 to line 3.
Step 2: Use transferred upgrade and order a new device on Verizon's website
Step 3: When device is shipped should I (A) activate the device with the sim that it shipped with since it was transferred to line 3 or (B) place the sim from line 2 into the new phone and go on my merry way?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

HI Everyone,
I had a quick question
Here's my scenario:
1st line UDP
2nd line TDP Upgrade eligible
Which method would be best if I wanted to upgrade my TDP line, get the new phone and transfer it to my UDP line without losing my unlimited DATA? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Can I use this method for a physical store? Target has a good deal but I don't want to risk losing my UDP

You should be able to upgrade the TDL line like normal, then once you have received the phone and activated it on the TDL line what you do with it from there is your business. You can swap sims or go to vzw.com to swap devices around.

Its when the upgrade is on the UDL plan that things get tricky because you're using a subsidized price point due to the UDL becoming upgrade eligible without giving up the UDL that Verizon is trying to get rid of...

Since you will have a tiered data line, it really doesn't matter how you do it. SIM switching isn't necessary unless you want to do it. You could:

1) upgrade the basic line and activate the new phone creating the tiered line
2) turn off the new phone and you current phone
3) Log into My Verizon and switch phones between the two lines

This will basically cause the two phones to switch lines without doing anything with the SIM. Now, you can log into My Verizon and switch the upgrade to the tiered line.
