[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If you buy the phone outright you can use the SIM that comes with the new phone OR any SIM from any retailer. You can deal with people in store in this case. They will try and sell you on a new plan but just tell them you are keeping your unlimited.

You have 2 lines with 2 upgrades available... correct?

That's right dumb phone on line 2 which they said if I get the s6 on that then switch it to primary the line 2 will have a $30 data plan that cannot be removed.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Question about the Sim cards. I have an s5 right now so I'll have to cut it. Now if for some reason I botch the cut job and I need a new Sim card, will verizon give me a Sim card with my existing UDP info or see that I upgraded and give me a Sim without the UDP?
Thanks

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I don't know specifically about suspending the acct while a pending activation is in place.

I defer to dusoccer10 on these matters. To quote his recent comment on pending activations..."A pending activation only effects plan/line changes like number of minutes, adding mobile hotspot, etc..."

Hope that helps, or catches the eye od DUSOCCER10

I can only speak from personal experience, but when there was a pending activation on my account (didn't have anything to do with keeping Unlimited Data), I was unable to suspend my service.

As always, it probably depends on who is manning the counter when you ask for one. However, they shouldn't care and should be more than happy to give you a sim.

Personally, it's worth it to me to pay around $5 on Ebay to buy a Verizon 4ff nano sim. I don't have anything against the stores, but $5 is worth it for the convenience of not having to deal with Verizon.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Any other ideas on my situation? Where do you think I should buy the actual phone, at a VAR or a VZ Wireless store?
(As I said time is of the essence so I can't really order it, especially being the weekend) And is it certain that the rep will be able to transfer my UDP Micro SIM to a Nano or should I cut it? And has anyone recently been able to pull the ol' switcheroo without being saddled with the $30 data plan on the 2nd (dumb phone line) after you switch the device to the primary and back?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If you go to store and have them transfer the upgrade to the dumb line but tell them the phone is for your daughter or mother and you don't want it activated. because it is a surprise for their birthday or graduation or something. You might be able to get the subsidized price without getting stuck with the $30 monthly data charge.

Maybe.... Then you would have to cut the card down on your line and use it. I think it is worth the chance. But it is up to you. Just never turn it on with the card they give you. Take that card out and destroy it.

If you are going to buy outright... Then go to the closest or most convenient store. None of this matters.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Here's the breakdown of my situation:

Line 1: Samsung Galaxy S4; UDP; Upgrade eligible
Line 2: iPhone 5; TDP; Upgrade eligible
Line 3: Dumbphone; No DP; Upgrade eligible
Line 4: Dumbphone; No DP; Not upgrade eligible

So just to keep everyone updated and informed, I went through a bit of a panic after I heard about the 8/13 subsidized phone hammer dropping so I went ahead and tried to order an SGS6 off of BB to replace my SGS4. Something was wrong with Best Buy's website and I couldn't order the phone using the Line 3 upgrade so I went ahead and ordered it off of VZW's website. This proved to be a mistake, the phone was $50 more expensive but came with the hassle of a $50 MIR (so the net was the same) and VZW charged a $40 activation fee which BB didn't. The next day BB's website was working again and I transferred my Line 1 upgrade to Line 4 and purchased an SGS6 through BB's website with no issues. I called VZW to cancel my original order but it had already shipped. I should've just refused the shipment when it came but I was out of town and my wife went ahead and signed for it.

I had to call VZW to tell that that I never even touched the phone and they need to waive the restocking fee of $35. They've agreed to and it should get credited on my next billing cycle.

My new SGS6 arrived from BB with no issues. I was debating whether or not to keep it since my SGS4 still runs like a champ but shiny new electronics fever took over and I decided to go with it. I took the phone out, removed the SIM card, threw it aside, and sat around waiting since I couldn't use the phone without a SIM. Next day I took the phone to a VAR near my house. I made up a story that the SGS6 was for my dad but he didn't like it so he took my SGS4, I gave him the nano-SIM with a SIM adapter and now I need a new nano-SIM. The guy bought the story and proceeded to get me a new nano-SIM. He told me it was going to be a $25 charge for a new SIM...wtf?!?! I figured $25 was a small price to pay to keep my UDP BUT I said to him that corporate stores don't charge anything and if there was anything he could do to help me out. He said he could do something.

In the end he charged me nothing, popped the new SIM in, setup the phone and I was off and running. I don't even see the pending activation on my account!

Thanks again to dusoccer and all the other contributors to this thread who took the time to answer mine and everyone else's individual questions throughout this thread!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yea just so you know.... You should see an upgrade fee on your bill. I think at best buy it is $35 instead of $40. I am surprised that you were able to get the SIM card from the VAR without a fee. I have never heard of them waving that

Thank you for you reply. Can I know that when will the pending activation occur? After receiving the device or after activate the phone?

You are right I believe. I logged in and saw a $35 charge on my bill, I thought it was the restocking fee so I called VZW and asked them to remove it. Oh well, we'll see what happens. If I gotta pay it I gotta pay it. Maybe the rep at the VAR store is charging my account for that SIM as well, won't know until it shows up...maybe I got lucky and he forgot, we were bs'ing about what he's going to major in and what college he should go to.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

On the SIM fee, you would have paid it there and I think it is like $10 or so.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm in the process of upgrading and want to make sure to do this right. Thank you in advance. This is a great community.

Line 1: No upgrade Available, Tiered plan, Motorola Turbo
Line 2: Upgrade Available, UDP, Lumia 822

Line 1 is my wife's phone and Line 2 is mine. I went to BestBuy.com and ordered the LG G4 on line 1 by transferring my upgrade from line 2. When the phone comes, can I go ahead and activate it on line 2 without doing anything special using the sim it came with? I don't think my SIM from my Lumia 822 will fit in the G4. Should I activate it on Line 1 first and then switch it back? I don't want to lose my UDP by doing something stupid and help would be appreciated, thanks!

Just use best buy method to upgrade line 2

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

As I stated, I already ordered it using line 1 by transferring my upgrade. It'll be here tomorrow.

Great! I don't need to cut the SIM down on my old phone (Lumia) and use that? I can just use the SIM that came with the new phone?

Yes. If you did the 4ever method (transferring udp upgrade to tdp line) you can activate it like normal. Then put your wife's phone back on, and put the new one on your udp

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey guys, I was wondering how I could upgrade my current galaxy s4 UDP that I bought through amazon or dell, i forgot (upgrade eligibility coming on the 10th of this month), to a apple iphone, the upcoming one that apple will reveal on the 9th. I am the account holder and currently was in a 2 year family plan with an iphone 4, upgraded to the samsung s4 with UPD. I really want to keep my UDP and am the only one in my plan to hold it since I was grandfathered in. Thank you so much, im sorry if it has been posted.
