[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I just wanted to ask if what I am doing will be ok.

Have 3 lines. All have upgrades available.

Line 1 2gb plan
Line 2 unlimited
Line 3 dumb phone, no data, not relevant

I ordered the Pixel XL on 2 year contract on line 1 through Verizon wireless website. When the phone arrives, I plan to take the sim card out and put the Line 2 sim card in the Pixel.

Should this be okay, or do I need to activate the Pixel on line 1 first?

You can do it either way. If you activate it on line 1 first you won't have to worry about the activation notice to fall off the line.

You would be fine.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Currently on a VZW UDP -

I plan on purchasing an iPhone 7.
Someone has a S7Edge he doesn't want.
I'm going to swap phones with him.

He currently has the S7E on a VZW plan. If I order the iPhone, open and remove the SIM. He then activates the iPhone on his account. I then activate the S7E on my account.

I should be good to go, correct?

Bonus question - I currently have an S5. The Micro Sim would need to be cut down to a Nano SIM, correct?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I currently have unlimited data with verizon. Bought the phone through best buy, following all of the instructions from this thread. When I got it in the mail I took the old sim out and put mine in but the phone is giving me an activation error telling me to call customer service.... Any tips?

You aren't trying to put it on the line in which UDP upgrade came from right?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I currently have multiple lines with UDP.
Line 1 UDP $49.99 upgrade eligible
Line 2 TDP upgrade eligible
Lines 3 and 4 UDP $29.99 contracts running out soon.
My 3 questions are:
Can you transfer upgrades from lines 1 and 2 to lines 3 and 4 on BB to renew 2-yr contract at $29.99?
If you can't renew on BB can you transfer upgrades and renew 2-yr contract at $29.99 on Verizonwireless.com?
I could care less about new phones, just wanting to keep UDP preferably at $29.99 and a renewed contract.

The line the original upgrade is from its the line that you get the new 2 year contract on. For example you transfer line 1 upgrade to line 3 abs upgrade line 3. The new 2 year contract is in line 1.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi!
I have one line on my account with the Alltel Unlimited Plan, which is the ONLY line on my account:
Friends & Family5 S/P 500...and I am paying the $20.00 per month (which started last month). I haven't had a "contract" since 2012. So, I am "month-to-month". Is the only way to upgrade to a new device the "Monthly Payment Option" or can I get a new contract and go that route and not lose my Unlimited Plan since I am already paying the $20.00 fee. Any tips?

Thank you for the help!!

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have a Consumer Business account with only one line on it, UDP $29.99 + $15 (30 mins). Upgrade is available now, contract ends 11/01/2016. Best Buy won't let me upgrade, likely because it's a business account. Iconic portal tries to take away my UDP when I try to upgrade.

I want to get an iPhone 7 Plus and use it on my AT&T prepaid account (never Verizon), and then sell the in-contract UDP. Should I add a line, transfer the upgrade to that line, then just wait for the PU to drop off and delete that line? Will that extend the UDP line another 2 years?

Edit: After speaking with a VZW rep (who was actually nice about everything), it seems like I can't get an upgrade on this line, period. I'll lose UDP one way or another, or have to do DPP instead of 2-year contract renewal. I'll just sell the line.

Sorry I'm a little late here, but have you read through this thread? I know it is long and can be overwhelming, but all the info you need is here.

This type of situation is precisely one of the scenarios for the workarounds. Basically, you go through the upgrade process and accept whatever plan changes are necessary. Usually we go with the 2GB plan, but I don't think it makes any difference. When you get the phone, remove the included SIM card and destroy it BEFORE TURNING ON THE PHONE FOR THE FIRST TIME!!

Another point: DO NOT PUT YOUR CURRENT ACTIVE SIM CARD IN THE PHONE!! The IMEI is tied to the upgrade, and even if you use your already active SIM card you will lose UDP. Sell the phone, and use the cash to buy a phone outright, even if you buy the same model.

This process will preserve your current plan cost and extend your contract for 2 years, as long as it is done before the next BCED (billing cycle end date). And it is actually a simpler process than it sounds.

  1. Order an upgrade online, accepting the new plan.
  2. When you receive the phone, remove the SIM card immediately before turning the phone on. Destroy the SIM card with fire, with MWD, with assault weapons, or whatever. Ask Vladimir Putin for a tool if necessary! Make sure the SIM card cannot ever be used.
  3. Sell the phone.
  4. Use the proceeds to buy the phone you want, or continue using your current phone.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I have two separate accounts both are single/individual lines and still haven't been hit with the $20 increase... with the new best buy method I'm hoping I'll be able to extend my contract and use the device on my other account... I've already ordered a S7 edge and hopefully will not loose my udp by activating it on my other account. Please somebody stop me if they see an issue here.

You should be OK. Just never put the phone on the line in which the upgrade originated

It has been posted on here by others that if you are paying the extra $20 you could upgrade with a 2 year contract and keep your UDP.

If you want it off your UDP you can still do a 2 year contract and just choice another data plan.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you tx_tuff for your reply! So, I should just be able to walk into my local store and upgrade with a contract and not have to do the Monthly Device Payment Plan? Or do you know if I need to upgrade at Best Buy instead? Sorry, I'm super new to this stuff.

Thanks again!!!

I have never done it myself. Everybody that post here pretty much does everything online. I would try Verizon online myself first.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Unfortunately my local store would only allow me to upgrade the device with the Device Payment option and online lets me choose "2 year contract" for the Pixel, but then a"Whoops! This offer must be completed by contacting customer service at 1-8xxxxxxxxx" ....Booooooo!

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes you would be fine. You would need to cut down the sim.

Thanks!

I bought a SIM cutter a while back. I've cut down my Micro to a Nano and put it back in my S5.

I know previously I had tried activating a NEW Nano Sim and putting it in with an adapter, but it wouldn't allow me.
Will I have any sort of problem using my current SIM in the new phone? (Since it's a cut down Micro and not a Nano?)

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So let me run this by and confirm with everyone:
Nationwide TLK&TXT Share 2000

Line 1(me): $49.99 Unlimited (Upgrade Eligible)
Line 2: 2GB (Upgrade Eligible)
Line 3: Dumb phone (upgrade eligible)

Can I order line 2's upgrade phone (under 2yr contract discount), and line 1 order my upgrade phone(under 2yr contract discount), and we swap without me losing unlimited? (edit: by having line 2 activate one or both?)

That's what I'm reading, but can anyone confirm? (Also do I just order from VZW online or instore?)
