[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

so you basically just financed the iPhone with Apple's payment plan, which has nothing to do with Verizon.

if your UDP account is still under contract until 2018, you "may" still avoid the $20/month increase to $49.99. That's what I'm hoping for as well, since my contract ends in November 2018 after I transferred my upgrade back in November. :)

I'll be extending in April or giving yet another Ive our lines away

extending what in April?

isn't Apple's payment plan just a way to finance the iPhone for 24 months
with the option to upgrade after 12 months?

it shouldn't have any bearing on the Verizon UDP at all.... (correct me if I'm wrong :) )

No not that. I'm talking about just extending my contract

Everything you stated is true.

Unless something changes before my contract runs out in March of 2018, I'm going to try my hand at taking my phone's nano SIM, slamming it in someone's cellular tablet, and ordering a subsidized tablet to extend contract.

Edit: Once the contract is ending in '18, I mean.

Sad news to see that Verizon is up to new tricks to dump UDP users. I've followed and used this site from almost the beginning. Many thanks to all those who help. My UDP line is in contract until November 2017 and my wife is on a TDP with an upgrade available now(contract ended December 2016 now month to month). I'm holding out with the 29.99 monthly, but it seems my days are numbered. In my last transaction, I just bought a new phone on my wife's upgrade, brought it home and put her old phone back on the line. Then I just went online and activated the new phone on my UDP line. Worked great.. then when my upgrade came along I just transferred it over to the TDP, got my wife a new phone and extended my contract. Sad, sad, sad...

I know, I'm just reliving better times :'( . So what happens in November of 2017 for me? When I go month to month, I assume I will see the extra charge for UDP. unless things change sooner. Hoping(longshot) something comes up in our favor for a work around. If not, will I be given the opportunity to change to another data plan? I'm not consuming a large amount of data to begin with, but like many others clinging to UDP's I like having the safety net just in case my daughter decides to watch a couple Netflix movies when we travel for example.... On more than one occasion, I've had store reps at Best Buy state that I must know someone on the inside to have kept my UD for so long. Verizon reps are just ticked that you still have UD to begin with and can't wait to get you off.

Best of luck to all those out there still hanging on. I'll continue to follow in support! Thanks again to the great people in this forum devoted to helping people like me. Your are truly good! Happy late new year to everyone.

what's your average monthly usage? depending on the number of GBs you actually use, you may be better off with other carriers(postpaid or even prepaid)

I would say less than 5GB. I haven't looked into other carriers and don't know much about post or prepaid options. Any info much appreciated. Thanks

at 5GB/month, I think you're better off porting your number to a prepaid service. :)

Verizon prepaid through Walmart is 7gb/$50. I would do that if your usage is below 7gb and you needed Verizon.

that would be ideal if the previous's poster with just 5gb/month usage still
has Verizon Android phones that can only pick up Verizon 4G LTE bands.
(not so much an issue with Verizon iPhones because those can pick up
AT&T and T-Mobile 4G LTE bands, as well as MVNO carrier using those
two carriers)

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello,

I have a single line with the UDP.

I ordered a new phone on the DPP with a trade-in for my old phone and will be receiving it tomorrow.

Do I need to swap SIM cards (which would require cutting my current micro sim to a nano sim) or can I just use the included one.

I am not sure if I need to send back the current SIM with the old phone.

Thanks!!!

Since you used DPP to get a phone, I think you can just use the included SIM.

Yeah, Verizon allows dpp for udp

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I've wanted to touch base here, I used this info in saving my Udp a few times, they finally caught up with me and gave me the higher rate. With having to pay full price for a phone now and not since I don't abuse the data, has anyone switched to a new share plan? Looks like it may be a cheaper route to think about. If I'm only saving acouple bucks a month I wouldn't but $50 a month adds up!

Just pick whatever works best for you but also beware that data usage generally does up over time. Food for thought...My wife's data usage increased more than 20 times over the usage five years ago, partly because she uses the internet more but also partly because she is away from wifi a lot more now.

Verizon and other mobile carriers probably heard "Cha-Ching!"
while reading about your wife's increasing data usage? :)

My wife is on Verizon UDP...

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I've been fortunate to hold on to UDP under contract using the methods on this forum. Currently clinging to a Family Share 700 plan...29.99/mo. For my line.

I'll be off contract in November of this year. Before, Verizon would hit us with the additional $40 once off contract, but I'm guessing now it will double since Verizon is offering UDP for $80/mo..

Can someone confirm? Just wondering if anybody still hanging on like myself could comment on this.

I'm only aware of a $20 price increase for data once you're off contact with a grandfathered UDP line. This would make it $49.99 for data. I wouldn't think it'd try and match the new UDP pricing. Also, just try and get back in contract if you want. Use the iconic portal method. People have been having luck. Worth a Google.
