Insufficient storage with 7 gig free

I'm using a 6gb/64gb phablet, and I'm getting insufficient storage for downloads and for play store....here's the kicker, I have 2 GB ram/6gb free, and 7 GB out of a resulting 55gb free in storage....what do I do, on Oreo 8 to allow me to use up to another 5 GB out of the 7gb that is reported free

Another thing I noticed is 1 gig takes up 10 gig on the phablet

This statement doesn't make any sense to me.

As for your issue - can we start with which device this is? You're actually getting a notification that the storage is full?

Are you trying to copy a lot of large files at the same time or are you saying you can't add any files at all?

It is a mediatek zh960 with android 8.0....for what I have put on it, I am on the mark, but large 1 gig seem to take way more space than that....the 7 gig free is a hard limit...if I am downloading something the download stops.…if I am decompressing I get an error……..If I am downloading with play store near that limit play store asks me to remove apps, yet android doesn't give the normal notification, because there is 7 gigabytes of storage free...I had it to 14 gig, was going to install ffix and play store wanted to remove stuff....ffix needs 8 gig to install but uses 4 gig on device

Actually, being honest....with what I put on it I should be in the neighborhood of 45 gig free, not 32....even with updates, my apps total about 6.9 gigs, so I should be over 45 gig free, but I'm not

There may be system files utilizing space

Most of the system is in the first up to 10 gigs of storage, original storage is 64 gigs...reduced to 55 gigs because of android, and should be 45 gigs from apps and updates, not 32, where its at, right now...and still the issue of the 7 gig freestriction on top of that...unless Oreo has a built in vmm(virtual memory manager) as a hidden background service/process

Also, DiskUsage can be useful to get a better idea of what's taking up space.

Those are the main screenshots....I've contacted mediated because I think this is a storage failure with their device, and with the device still being new, could be covered under manufacturer warranty

Forget the on-phone "storage apps". Install Terminal Emulator for Android and issue the command

You'll see how the storage is partitioned. You have access to only one partition - depending on the device it's sdcard (not exSdCard which is the card), emulated/0 or whatever the bottom line on the display is. You'll see the partition size, the amount used and the amount free. That's it. Depending on the device, you could have anything from 1GB to 50GB to start. (And there's no way to change that.)

(Holding it in landscape mode will make it easier to read.)

I have the app ran the command but trying to make sense of it all.....shows lots of numbers and files but no clue where the partition info is in the list

The partition name is at the right. If you look at the top of the list you'll see labels for each column.

Columns? All I have is this. Its hard for me to interpret, and I can't go all the way up...there is a cut off to what is displayed....Being hard to interpret says a lot....I grew up with MS-DOS 3.3+

Sorry, I have to disagree. "Cleaner" apps, even from well-known developers like Norton, aren't a panacea, and I don't think it would help in this situation.

OP, try Data Size Explorer from the play store and run the internal scan. It will be easier to use and make sense of.
