Insurance done right

Sorry, you are mistaken. As said by others, Apple will give you a remanufactured phone that has a new battery, new screen but it's not brand new. However I would accept it because Apple will test the new remanufactured phone very well over a brand new on from China.

I've had Apple Care and I had my phone replaced twice and it in no way was new- both refurbished. Their refurbished phones are top notch, though. I can tell you from experience that none of the replacements given through apple care are brand new

Incorrect, we were told flat out by Apple. It would be a new phone IF the broken one is not repairable. My son who owns an iPhone 5,just received a brand new one under applecare because of what was deemed battery swelling. They couldn't even get into the phone. The replacement was brand new.

Dude. There's this bridge in Brooklyn...

I can tell you all from personal experience that Apple Care is the best in the business. I do believe the replacement device is an Apple Certified device, not brand new, but as another poster stated the replacements are excellent. I have had multiple devices replaced by Apple over the years. They make it very easy and are very liberal with their policies if you have Apple Care. I did have to wait a couple days once for a replacement router to be shipped to the store for me since they had none available. That's the worst that ever happened.

For those of you that just like to be Apple bashers I suggest you stop bashing for the sake of bashing unless you have personal experience with Apple Care.

And for the record I am not an Apple groupie. I am typing this on my S7 edge which I prefer over the iPhone. I do however, have multiple Apple products and my other family members have iPhones.

Reading comprehension is important. Nobody is killing Apple. They're just letting the OP know what's actually happening. OP doesn't want to believe it, that's on him/her. This is how it works basically everywhere.

First of all let me say that I'm a diehard android fan when it comes to smartphones. As far as laptops go, I need my macbooks. Anyway, because of their work, both my kids have an iPhone. My daughter's iPhone finally died after 4 years of heavy use. When we bought her new one today at the Apple store, we were offered their iPhone applecare. It was $129.00, plus a $99.00 deductable. BUT, the big difference between applecare and verizons insuance, is that if anything happens to her phone, whether it be due to failure or drops or whatever, she gets a BRAND NEW IPHONE, if hers cannot be fixed. So if her screen gets cracked or it sits in a tub of water overnight, she pays her deductible and gets a new, not rephurbished phone. Thats the reason I never get the insurance from Verizon, if the phone I bought new gets damaged beyond repair, I want it replaced with a brand new phone not someone elses rebuilt. And verizon can send you a different color, and even a different brand of the same caliber. So, Verizon, do it right. Follow apples, applecare. It's the right thing to do. By the way, i did buy a macbook that died 2.5 years into the applecare. It was deemed unrepairable. And yes, i got a brand new one.

I thought this was an Android forum.

They told my wife that too. Guess what, it was refurbished

Apple sure knows how to fool their customers into buying, insuring, upgrading, or anything really. I got to hand it to them. I have a lot of family members who into Apple products. And by "into" I mean they are not traditional techies, they buy everything Apple and believe they are on the cutting edge.

When I read someone totally mislead by Apple to the point of actually posting it here, defending it as true, I just have to laugh about it. I just don't get it. I would be pissed if I bought something, bragged about it, then find out I was lied to. I would be going back to that person and pointing out their lies and making them admit the truth and possibly getting my money back. Nope, a true Apple user just won't confront it.

I have bought Apple products from time to time. They are good in some area's. I have had them replaced and always gotten a quality refurbished replacement. So you can't blame them. It just amazes how much they get away with, whereas other companies would be run out of business for the same kind of tactics.

Yeah, listen, you were lied to...probably just to satisfy your need to hear that it's new. This is straight from Apple Care's Terms and Conditions regarding defects:

"If during the Plan Term, you submit a valid claim by notifying Apple that (i) a defect in materials and workmanship has arisen in the Covered Equipment, or (ii) the capacity of the Covered Equipment’s battery to hold an electrical charge is less than eighty percent (80%) of its original specifications, Apple will either

(a) repair the defect at no charge, using new parts or parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability, or

(b) exchange the Covered Equipment, with a replacement product that is new or equivalent to new in performance and reliability.

All replacement products provided under this Plan will at a minimum be functionally equivalent to the original product."

And this is from the same T&C regarding accidental damage:

"If during the Plan Term you submit a valid claim notifying Apple that the Covered Device has failed due to accidental damage from handling (“ADH”), Apple will, subject to the service fee described below, either

(i) repair the defect using new or refurbished parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability, or

(ii) exchange the Covered Device with a replacement product that is new or equivalent to new in performance and reliability
."

Don't get me wrong here, I've dealt with insurance from Verizon and the provider that services Google's Nexus Protect plan, and I can tell you that yes, sometimes you do get a new phone completely sealed in its retail box as a replacement. However, this usually only happens if the phone relatively new, let's say from 1-3 months. However, the older a phone gets and needs replacing, the more like you are to get one of those refurbished devices. Now, unless if they took out a new iPhone or Macbook that was sealed in its original retail packaging right in front of your eyes, you probably got a refurbished or "equivalent to new" replacement...

tl;dr op was lied to by an apple rep and did not read the issuing agreement. posted misinformation.

Uh sorry OP, you are wrong about Verizon/Asuron insurance as well. I cracked the screen on my S7 Edge a couple of weeks ago. I submitted the claim and paid the deductible and they overnighted me a brand new phone, in box, with charger and everything. I just had to send the broken phone back in the padded envelope they provided.

So I think you have it backwards, and Apple can learn from Verizon.

I'm not so sure there's much to be learned. Probably more of an issue with lack of refurbished phones to send at present.

Our replacement came the same way and we actually had to wait a week or two because it was on back order. I'm guessing when we got them replaced they still didn't have a pool of refurb phones yet. I'm sure as time goes there will be less new phone swaps and more refurbs being sent out.
