What is everyone doing about insurance for your new phone? I bought directly from Samsung but declined their insurance. It is stupid expensive from Verizon. Do you insure or take your chances?

They're comparable if you go for the basic plan from Verizon which honestly is all you need. The only thing I dislike is that they don't offer protection for unlocked phones. With that being said I haven't had any protection in about a year. Always good with my phones. Haven't cracked a screen since the Evo 4G. I do however misplace my older phones a lot lol but since they're not my daily driver I don't worry and always end up finding them days later.

I would consider Verizon's extended warranty which isn't very expensive and is for the life of the phone as long as you pay the subscription fee. It's not the full on accident insurance but I always keep phones cased and never had any accidental damages. If you've had a similar history, then that's my suggestion. If you're clumsy, then I would seek out accidental insurance.

Isn't the standard Verizon insurance around $6 per month? That's the plan I have on my S10 and it includes device replacement with $199 deductible.

None since I don’t keep my phones long enough and also it’s an overkill for me if i keep getting insurance. If something happens i can pay the repair costs or replacement, anyway the cost of not paying phone insurance for all these years covers a few phones easily. Though it’s just my personal preference

I feel the same way, I had insurance on everyone phone I had and never had an issue. I stopped getting insurance when I got my SO+ and up and haven't had any issues...thankfully :)

Yeah I hate to just throw away $10 or whatever every month and on top of that is something breaks you have deductible etc in most cases. Even if it's not there for me personally it's not that big of a deal paying for repair or replacement. Its more of I'll pay when it's needed and don't want to just keep paying this monthly insurance thing forever that too for a phone. And moreover it's a low percentage of chance of breaking given that phone is in a case.

Before someone says why do you need home or car insurance. Yeah I need it because there is lot more complexity, legal impacts and many other scenarios with multiple parties involved etc and the impact cost there is not comparable to any electronics insurance

At the end, it's preference. Just my 2 cents doesn't mean you shouldn't get phone insurance.

I use to have insurance through Verizon but it is now $50 a month for 3 phones! I only saw
the $17 plan which I think is way too high. I don’t think I have ever had to use it on my phones, but when son was on our plan he broke or lost 3! Glad I had it then. Don’t have insurance now. So far I get a new phone every year but gonna try to stop that. Leaning towards no insurance but damn these phones are getting expensive.

I usually get insurance for the first few months till I get more confident in the phone and the case. Tho I did have an issue with my s10 I can't remember what it was. I'm with Verizon. I logged on to my Verizon, added the warranty, and the same day I was able to do a request and get another phone shipped to me the next day. I was surprised they didn't have like a waiting period before having to make a claim. But unfortunately this time I got an unlocked phone so my options are limited. I thought about buying the unlocked model from Best buy so I could do geek square but their insurance isn't the best. So I might just do square trade monthly for the next month or so. Best investment for me is a good case and the Whitestone some protector saved my phone a lot

You can’t insure unlocked phones with Verizon??
I think you can, but have to take it to store to be inspected and cleared as being in good working order (which is true even for their own phones if you didn't add it within the grace period after the initial purchase).
