International calling settings

Are there any particular settings in Android that need to be enabled in order to make calls and use data abroad? I'm on T-Mobile's simple choice plan that allows free international data and texting, so in theory all I should need to do would be to turn on the phone the moment the plane lands.

Also, in case it's relevant, I'm on a Moto X 2014 Pure Edition.

There shouldn't. Just allow data roaming and you should be good. Ensure to check the T-Mobile site to ensure the location you're going to has the unlimited text and data as part of the International unlimited.

Thanks! When you say enable data roaming, do you mean the setting under Cellular Networks -> data roaming in settings? That setting should be on?
