Internet and Gmail not syncing after Marshmallow update

Since my Verizon Samsung Note 5 was upgraded to Marshmallow, Gmail is not syncing regularly and I frequently lose my Internet connection. I think it is Marshmallow's new battery saving technology. When I turn off my Power Saver, the problem goes away. So I can good battery life or good connectivity, but not both. Any fixes?
