Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

When the Galaxy Nexus is finally released, I will randomly pick 3 members and send out a free Galaxy Nexus case (once available in the AC store).

When I first saw this op, I thought wow a free GN!!....then looked a bit closer and saw the word case and was let down abit. lol

First smartphone: Fascinate. Learned a whole bunch about android and Samsung phones with this device. You know the whole rooting and rom stuff. Scary experience at first, am I going to brick this thing apprehension feeling.
Present phone: Droid Charge. The fascinate turned me pretty much into a Samsung fan so I figured cough up the full pop price for the charge for the screen and 4g and lock in unlimited data. SAMOLED+ is not a huge improvement over reg Samoled but man the 4g speeds rock. So pretty happy with the Charge.

Reason to get this phone: Kind of a phone freadazoid. Paid full pop for the charge and will pay full pop for the Nexus. I like new stuff and the specs and ICS make me drool and screw my finances up the wazoo.

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

First smartphone: G1. I LOVED/LOVE my G1. Still have it in a drawer next to my desk and pull it out every once in a while for some nostalgia. After owning the G1, I upgraded to the G2 (which was decent, but nothing can beat that G1 keyboard and true stock android). Then I switched to Verizon and had a Droid Eris for a little bit (thank god it was only a few weeks... after owning keyboard devices my whole life, switching to that little screen was awful). Then I bought my current device, the HTC Thunderbolt. While I loved the Thunderbolt at first, the battery is starting to annoy and Sense just seems to have become stale.

I cannot wait to get the Galaxy Nexus, which will be my phone for a full 2 years. Looking forward to returning back to stock Android and finally owning a device with a beautiful screen.

As for posting, you guys will see a lot of me; I'm not going anywhere. :)

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

I'm going from a OG Droid to either the GN or the Razr (but I'm 99% sold on Galaxy Nexus).

The Droid is my only smartphone, and I've been waiting way too long for a new phone. Thankfully the Bionic was delayed long enough before these phones, otherwise I'd have gotten one of those a few months ago.

My OG Droid is a little slow, banged up, and just ready for replacing. I'm surprised I've lasted this long.

I found these forums when I started researching for a new phone.

How would you describe yourself - in terms of forum participation?
I'm a junkie for the latest news on Android, especially with ICS coming (and the GN, which I am definitely getting shortly after release). I don't plan on leaving the forums anytime soon. I'll stick around to keep up on news and stay involved.

Any other interesting stuff you feel comfortable sharing.
I'm almost certain once I get my GN I'll start building ROMs for it now and then - if I find anything about ICS that doesn't sit well with me, that is :p

Sophomore studying Computer Science... Over the summer I put together an app for in-house use at the company I worked for - my first experience making an app, definitely helped me understand how Android works behind-the-scenes.
And I've been lamenting Verizon's lack of a Nexus device since they dropped the N1. I can't wait to get my hands on the GN and use 4.0 on an actual phone instead of an emulator :)

Former OS/Device:Currently rocking a droid incredible with Stock+ rom. It's just the stock gingerbread with some nice extras thrown in. I've basically experemented with every kind of rom imaginable, I also owned an xperia play briefly. Prior to my dinc, I had an LG dare and a RAZR before that.

Mostly a lurker, with a few posts here and there. I also suggest basically anyone who has even a fleeting interest in android come here first.

I've become a raving android fanatic over the past 18 months. I'm familiar with the Ins and outs of basically every android phone on verizon, and most of them on other carriers. I've also taken the time to educate myself in other OS's so I can be informed when bashing people for their inferior devices. I was really let down when verizon didn't get the N1 so i feel like GN is redemption at last.

Longtime Blackberry and the old windows mobile platform user.

Last several devices - currently utilize a BB9930, droid x before that, touch pro 2, touch pro, HTC titan, motorola Q. I have had smartphones since the days of the blackberry "wheel".

Member of crackberry, ppcgeeks, xda and howardforums.

I am finally dumping the BB and ready to jump on ICS. I did have a brief flirtation with a droid x - wasn't crazy about it, but seeing the ics release, it finally looks polished. My work has given me an i-phart 4 which I despise. I am about to do the "add a line" thing on my personal account and have work pay for it so I can have the new GN with ICS and dump the i-phart.

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

I was the last guy around to get a cell phone, which was some flip phone on AT&T that I had for about 4 years. I never cared about texting, the "games" were laughable things like a pac-man clone that let you play 2 levels unless you bought the full version for $6. Web browsing on a postage stamp sized screen?

That all changed when the Droid came along and I realized my phone could be for all intents and purposes a mini-computer! I bought it and fell totally in love with it. Now, well, we are fast approaching an amicable parting of the ways. It's the same old story I'm afraid. Someone younger, prettier, and with better measurements has turned my head! Oh, I noticed others along the way-- the Bionic tried to seduce me for a while, and before that the Charge-- but this time it's true love!*

As far as the forums go, I usually lurk. A lot of times it's just because there are a lot of "personality conflicts" which are alternately entertaining/annoying. But mostly it's just because most of what I want to know has already been answered by people far more knowledgeable (or at least more willing to throw out a wild-ass guess speculate) than I.

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

I am currently a webOS (Pre Plus and now Pre 2) user that is very excited to be coming to Android and looking forward to that first phone being the Galaxy Nexus. I am eligible for a Verizon loyalty updgrade tomorrow so the timing is perfect. Before it was announced I was hoping to get a vanilla android but didn't think I would have that opportunity on Verizon and was considering my options for the past few months. I came from PreCentral to this site to learn about Android. When I learned of the Galaxy Nexus, I stopped looking as I knew I had found my next device. I wouldn't have minded seeing a microSD slot and that Verizon's version had world capability since I travel to the other side of the globe for work, but I can live without them since I don't have them on my current phone. After seeing ICS, i don't think we can call it vanilla Android anymore, it's Pure Android now.

I am mostly a lurker. I spent a lot of time reading PreCentral and now Android Central, but I am here to learn and don't post often. I check the site all day long.

Former OS/Device:

Droid Eris since late in '09 - ready to move up to the latest & greatest. Hopefully the Nexus fits the bill.

Prior to the Eris, I had an old LG VX6000 - so I'm not really an upgrader, but the Eris has really been grating on me recently and I'm ready to get a proper Android

iPhone 3GS
The thing is falling apart. The volume rocker came off, the sleep button has no effect when pressed, deep scratches on the screen, dust settled in the camera (So every picture has this big chunk of dust in the way). The plastic backing is cracked, and I could peel and rip it off if I could. I can't charge the phone unless I manually reposition the plug in a very particular way. I've resulted to jailbreaking it to give it more life. Um.. That is all for now.

This will be my first Android phone, so i'm sure I'll come here to get all of my questions answered. I'm a technical person so i'll be definitely be rooting and customizing my nexus and even will start exploring developing apps for the android market soon.

Overall, I'm excited for the new Nexus!

I am a lurker, I like to post here and there but I mostly like to consume data.

I am coming from an Apple heavy Ecosystem.

Family Setup - 3 iPhones, 2 iPads, 1 Apple TV in the family, Mac PC

The reason for the switch is kind of two fold. First and foremost I am getting bored of iOS. Second, Battlefield 3 was coming out and I built a very nice gaming PC and got rid of my mac. With the mac out of the way, I figured why not try out some android things. I picked up a DINC2 and GTab 10.1

I am learning how to get my devices to talk to each other, but I will admit, iOS has the ecosystem down. It was so easy to put my digital movies on my devices, it was easy to buy a song on any device and it would show up on the rest. Those are two small things but I do miss them.

Overall I am happy, pry the only thing I miss on the devices themselves is the gaming. iOS is a great platform for gaming, while I didn't game all that much, it was nice to have the selection of games available for when I did want to.

I can't wait for the GN to arrive.

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

I've been a smartphone user for some time now.

Motorola Q > Motorola Qm > Blackberry Tour > Droid Incredible

I was a devout reader of Crackberry.com when I owned my Tour.

I pre-ordered my Incredible and got it the day before the official release. I've been delighted with the Incredible. I just recently rooted it and have been running various ROMs on it. With HTC support (updates) this phone has managed to stay relevant and useful.

I bought a B&N Nook last January. I promptly rooted it and have been running it as an Android tablet ever since. It's been touch and go with it but the latest stable release of CM7 has been great for it.

I just bought an ASUS Transformer during the $300 Target sale. I love this tablet. It is big compared to the Nook but still very nice. You can really tell the difference in the processor. I love the keyboard accessory. The Transformer was the only Android tablet that I wanted. I ended up with two when I feared that Target might run out so I ordered the $400 bundle from Newegg. D'oh! (Yeah, yeah, first world problems.)

I'm always checking out the forums to see what's going on. If I can help, I will, but mostly checking to see if there are updates or problems - yes, I'm a true lurker.

I swore I wasn't going to buy another phone on day one (the Tour and Incs were first day purchases) but if I can sweet talk Verizon into an early upgrade I will get a Galaxy Nexus when it comes out. Otherwise I will just wait until my upgrade on 12/29. I can't wait to try a vanilla Android device.

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

on the droid x right now, had the OG droid before that. Looking to upgrade to the nexus this month (hopefully). Have a Xoom as well. Was with a blackberry before that and it was so not good. Was around the crackberry forums but never liked BBerry. Had a samsung sch i-760 windows smart phone before that, it was ok but I really wanted to mod it all the time and it would never work just right for me. All dumb phones before that.

Been around these forums for the last few years and have been jumping about getting news and help/helping with rooting phones.

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

My first smart phone was an iPhone 3GS. Switched to Android with the Droid Incredible. Still have the GS and play some games on it that have not come over to Android yet. Also have a Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Read the Howard Forums for years. This is the first Android forum I have participated in and, though I have looked at others, I find much more information in here that I can use.

I read the forums regularly looking for hints on my current devices and reading about upcoming devices.

I m 63 years old and have been working in computer related fields for the last 28 years and currently have providing software technical support for a small software company. I give advice to friends about computers and phones although I have cut back on that in recent years - lol, too expensive in terms of my time. Seems like you help somebody one time and they call with the slightest problems.

Great forum. Keep up the good work.

I am somewhat of a regular. I generally participate in forums that discuss the current devices I use and the devices I'm interested in.

I wouldn't say I'm manic about devices. But, I definitely participate in the forums that I am most interested in, or forums that discuss the devices I currently use.
