invalid SIM after root?

I have an AT&T LG3. I used stock and the OTA lollipop update the first few months, but I finally rooted my phone about 4 weeks ago, everything worked fine. I didn't actually do anything with the root, no new roms, no xposed framework, tweaks etc.

This morning I woke up to a phone that said "Invalid SIM". various attempts to fix all failed. I finally went to an AT&T store and they replaced the SIM. That worked for one call before I again got an invalid SIM. They finally said I needed to take my phone to a warranty center, and gave me directions to the nearest one.

I did a factory reset, still invalid SIM.

I got to thinking what else might have caused this and started wondering if the root might be why. Nothing happened initially (I initially rooted when trying to fix a perpexing problem with extremely slow wifi on my home network (and yes I replaced the router there, it is an AT&T u-verse set up anyway).

I am thinking my next step is to unroot and see if that clears it up, will want to do that before making the trek the warranty center anyway.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I always remove both SIM and SD Card before rooting, its just safer that way.
I also didn't know you can root Lollipop, don't worry about root when sending it in for warranty.
I sent mine in rooted and got my phone replaced no problem.
What did you use to root?

Used superuser....

Anyway I unrooted it, reflashed to stock, still invalid sim. Seems the phone is bad. Under warranty, AT&T is replacing.

Update... Definitely was the phone. Using the hidden test menu I was able to check its ability to read my Sim. Note it didn't say it was invalid, it flat out could not read it.

I had been having other issues with weak cellular speed (only around 4-5 Mbps at home when I used to get much more and typically only 2 bars). And wifi was worse around 0.2 Mbps when my home network (uverse ) was around 18 Mbps and I got that on the shield tablet I used to take that pic. I even upgraded my uverse to their 45 Mbps package so they would have to upgrade my router and still same results.

After I went to the warranty center they said they would replace it... It arrived the next day and it took the Sim.... And I got much much better signal strength and the wifi was what it should have been. So something clearly went wrong with the phone, which is on its way back to AT&T via return box....

I have no idea what caused it. There was nothing physically evident as wrong so maybe it just went bad dunno.

As a side note I picked up a $14.99 Z222 go phone to use as a backup in case it took longer as I don't have a landline and sold all my previous phones... it used a full sized sim but i was able to place the microsim in the right spot and it stayed there just fine, worked well enough to get me through. Being the same network (AT&T) it accepted the sim and it worked on my account just fine. It is a pretty no frills flip phone, amazing how far removed its specs are from something like the LG3... That phone now goes into a drawer for emergencies.
