iPad Mini resolution no match for Nexus 7.

There is probably some truth to their Ipads in schools claim. They actually are quite good at selling their stuff to businesses. I work at lowes and within the last year they've replaced all their old nokia looking spectralink phones with iphones incased in a casing with a built in credit card reader, ir scanner, and a shell that makes an otterbox defender look weak. And those phones are about $400 a pop as opposed to the spectra link phones that were $1000 a pop.

We were supposed to get Ipads too but lol lowes actually cheaped out and got nook colors instead

I think Apple shot themselves in the foot since they didn't put Retina in there. It probably made sense, but I found it ridiculous that they would release something non Retina this year.

Yup, this would have made a huge difference. After the Nexus 10 comes out with better screen res than the iPad people will be shaking their heads.

I'm a little disappointed that with HTC, Sony and Samsung working on 1080p 5 inch displays that the iPad mini would have that resolution at least and beat them to the punch to a full HD screen. They had a chance to blow away the 7" market with a retina iPad mini running on an A6. Instead it feels like they were frightened by the kindle fire and nexus 7 and scrambled to get something out before the holidays.

I feel that this is similar to the Samsung Mini. They had a chance to create a great phone that competes with the smaller iPhone and they fail miserably on specs.

School iPad Program – not as easy as I thought!

Wait till next Monday ( 29th ) and your statement won't be $249 for a 16GB N7 when Google comes out with their two new N7 (more memory & cell modem). I like my N7 since I broke out of Apple prison. There are a few apps that are only on Apple that I want but had my N7 at the bar yesterday and some of the iPad people wanted a few of the Apps I had that only runs on Android. Everyone get to get what they need and I just don't need another tablet. I like one the size of the N7 that fits in my cargo pants pockets.

This happens to me all the time on my phone too. I show someone a cool app on my phone not even knowing if it is available on the iPhone and they look and it's not there. I keep asking for a list of must have apps that are available on Apple that aren't available on Android and no one ever gives me one.

My 4s has the same processor as the iPad mini... I've had it since 2011...

Actually, no. The 4S has an A6 processor, while the iPad mini has an A5X (which is worse). It's the same as the iPad 2 processor.

Google Nexus 7 is arguably the best tablet in the 7" ecosphere. Its incredibly popular and selling very well so Apple took a pop shot at it. Its the "Goliath" to their iPad Mini "David".

Apple now has to directly compete against an already hot selling and established device in the 7 inch category and, apparently, they are a little scared, lol!

They realize what they are offering is an old iPad 2 shoved in a smaller body. The tech world, tech blogs and smart people know this and aren't fooled. So Apple had to come out swinging at the Big Guy: Nexus 7 to try and fool the iSheep and the ill-informed.

Hopefully most people won't buy the bull but we know a ton of morons and iSheep will.

The only people who are fooled by it are the iSheeps. They will buy this product.

N7 was $249, I'm fine with that type of product cannibalism. Some folks spent upwards of $800 for their "new" ipads 6 months ago to be told today they were suckers simply paying a premium as early adopters.
my dad paid $729, but he doesnt know the difference. that is the thing about apple buyers, they dont care if its better.

Agreed. Its one thing to get 16GB more storage for the same price of $249 but to pay a premium of $600-800 then see everything upgraded in less than 6 months and I mean everything down to the processor and charging port (!!!)? That's a slap in the face and a kick in the balls.

Yes, tech moves fast but those that bought an iPad 3 have every reason to be pissed off because their device just got replaced in less than 6 months! Wow, that's a little too fast. What's next? Product line refresh every other month?!? GTFO. Seriously.

I expect to get 9-12 months out of a product before I see the upgraded version for sale especially at the price point Apple charges! IJS

Just 2 things.

1 : iPad Mini = sucky 2 year old tech

2 : At least the iPad3 owners will get the latest iOS for another 2 or 3 years. Can't say that about most, if any, Android phones or tablets.

The Nexus 7 will be supported way longer than anything Apple releases this year.

How about Garageband and iMovie just for starters?

I have a daughter who is a singer and I run a design business. Anyone trying to do this on a phone or tablet is an idiot. On a desktop computer there are many options on both systems that do this as well for free.

Nope. Check again sir, 4S is A5, Mini is A5 also. A5X is iPad 3. A6 is in the iPhone 5. :)

Really? The quad core n7 with higher specs for 1/4 the price is not going to be a good value? Come on be realistic. The ipad 3 may have good shelf life and it probably will but don't act like all android devices lose their usefulness just because they get updated more than apple products.
