iPad Mini resolution no match for Nexus 7.

The hypocrisy in this thread is amazing. A wider iPad is now suddenly uncomfortable to hold, but when Android phones come with 4.7", 4.8" screen compared to the iPhone's 4" screen, they are perfectly fine. Iconrolleyes.gif

As a developer that has a large part of our market in education, they will absolutely pay more, especially when the difference you are offering involves support.

Private schools? Perhaps. Public schools? Not any of the ones I know. Heck, most public school districts can barely afford 3 year old Dells. Where would they get the money to equip classrooms with miniature tablets?

I know of a few public school districts here that have deployed iPads.

Dude, as long as the aspect ratio is around 16:9 a large screen is comfortable and is much easier to read than a smaller screen.

I don't care if you pay 1.65 times more dollars for a iPad mini that only has 168 pixels per inch. I will just suffer on my $199 N7 with it's 216 ppi display.

I can't believe how much money a baseline iPad Mini costs, given it's physical specs. I know part of the cost comes from the HDMI out, dual-band Wi-Fi, and rear camera. But the screen size (1024x768) and ratio (4:3), pixel density (163ppi), and less powerful dual core processor (Apple A5) are it's down sides.

Its a lot easier 2 hold the nexus 7. Most android phones aren't wide. The vu and note are pretty big. But everything else is pretty comfortable. Unless you have. Baby hands.

I don't really want to hate on the ipad but what would one do with it? On my Android phone/tablet I'm constantly playing with widgets, roms, launchers, overclocks, etc... I've heard that apple doesn't allow you to do these things, I may be wrong though, i don't own apple things.

I honestly think at that price point with the uninspiring specs its biggest competition is other iPads. At $329,that's the lowest an iPad has ever started, and a ton of people wanting an iPad but didn't have $400 are probably pondering it now.

Honestly I expected more. I knew it wasn't going to start at $200 but I thought they'd do more than just shave an inch and a half off the iPad 2 and call it a mini. I figured for sure it would have retina display. 1024x768? Not exactly competitive. And really their calling out of the nexus 7 was stupid. Ok? It's not like Google couldn't of used a bigger screen its called its a 7 inch tablet not a 7.9 inch tablet, and what good is a bigger screen when text isn't going to be as sharp due to a lower ppi and screen resolution?

For one of the most anticipated products of the year it's just kinda meh overall. And don't think I'm being an android fanboy here either. I actually applauded them for the iphone 5, while it wasn't revolutionary, they did what needed to be done and made the iphone much more competitive.

Honestly I wanted them to show off a product that would blow me away. But the mini is just well kinda lame honestly.

I think they did this because they know that Google's Nexus 7 and soon to be released Nexus 10 are serious threats to their perfect iPad world. Lot's of people who would never pay for an iPad will buy a Nexus or Kindle Fire or Nook for the $200 price point. The casual web surfer who wants to watch movies and read books on vacation will see the benefit of a cheap reliable device like the Nexus. Apple can't throw the baby out with the bathwater and under price their product, so they are once again screwing over their customers and offering a mediocre spec'd device and charging premium dollar for it. Google is activating 70,000 tablets a day. Apple stated in their keynote that "other tablet makers" are failing miserably, yet stats are showing that Android is catching up. It may not be yet be at the level of what Apple is still doing but it is clearly another product that is looking like the lesser device in many ways. Especially when people are going to be paying at least twice as much for it.

I swear Tim Cook probably wakes up every day wishing Steve Jobs was still running this show.

The only problem is Google will be releasing the N7 with double the memory for the same price next week, so it is more like $179 difference.

All I saw was the price. Being that I'm a student that price difference is insane. If they wanted to compete with the N7 releasing a slightly larger screen is not the way to do it n my opinion.

Yeah I thought the presentation was poor. Actually putting the ipad mini straight next to a nexus 7 on a big screen and claiming it was a failure was really kinda sad. Yes the ipad is the best selling tablet out there, we all know this. But the nexus 7 is holding its own and turning a profit. It's a hit nonetheless so just kinda made apple seem ignorant calling it a failure.

Wasn't impressed whatsoever with the iPad Mini. I'm perfectly happy with the Nexus 7.
