iPhone X

...Did you ready my post, two above yours? A 3-day wait to schedule an appointment, or an estimated 2-3 hour wait as a walk-in?

Longest I've ever had to wait at my carrier (T-Mobile) was about 45 minutes, and that was during the holiday season.

I understand you want to believe everyone trails Apple, but that's simply not the case. My experience above (which was the worst I've seen, but not terribly atypical) aside, let's consider two scenarios:

1. You require a repair, perhaps for a broken screen. Apple has 269 locations in the US to provide service (but those are not strictly service locations, so you're fighting with sales and other general customers for a spot in line). Google works with UBREAKIFIX for repairs, and they have 341 locations in the US.
Much greater availability for Pixels to attain repair, with locations much more readily accessible to people in a wider geographic area, and those locations are solely catering to repair.

2. Your device needs to be replaced. Apple can replace devices at their store, so same day replacement is possible, though you're rolling the dice as to how long it will take to get a walk-in appointment if reservations are delayed to later days. Google sends replacements via next-day-air. I agree that Apple can be more convenient here - if the urgency to have it replaced ASAP outweighs the convenience of having it delivered to you the following day and avoiding traveling to a store to endure unknown wait times.

As to taking care of its customers? I have a 2013 Nexus 7 that had an issue with its motherboard about a year ago - about 2 years after the warranty from Asus had expired. Google got it repaired at no charge, going well above and beyond any reasonable responsibility they bore. Ask the people who had boot loop issues with the Nexus 6P how they felt about Google's service when they replaced those devices with the Pixel XL at no charge...

And in any event you should need to speak to Google customer service, my experience over the past 5 years has been that any time I have needed to contact Google on a support issue, I can reach them by phone or text in under 15 minutes, and almost always under 5 minutes. Possible that some have had terribly long waits? Sure. Some may have had delays as long as I had with Apple, though I anticipate it isn't the norm for Google, and candidly don't expect my experience at Apple was common despite the fact that the majority of my experience with Apple has been with delays order of magnitude greater than those for Google.

Just to add... Apple doesn't always replace on the spot. Case in point...if they have to diagnose the problem, but they do provide a loaner which is kind of nice.

Yes I understand Apple has taken control of their hardware for sometime now, but Google is heading in the same direction over the past few years. Also many of Apple supply is from Samsung or a big part I should say. The day Google make thier own chip, is a wrap for Apple.

Update on my original post. He returned his iPhone X and now has a pixel 2xl. He is loving it so far. I have given a few pointers along the way, but over all he’s had no problems with the transition. he is loving the customization and freedom. Playing with launchers and the big one doesn’t know how he lived without an app drawer.

Playing with launchers gets old real quick though

What I hate about iPhone is if you download secure info from the browser it is stored in the browser. I have no idea how secure Puffin for iPhone is nor if my secure data is safely stored there.

I meant to ask how the stereo speakers built. in to iPhone X sound compared to iPhone 8 plus?

I can confirm it’s been utter garbage on my 6s Plus. Battery life is terrible. So many little annoying bugs and glitches that I don’t have time to name them all. Apple is usually good about squashing them. But I think I’m on the 3rd or 4th iOS 11 update and some of the more annoying ones remain. Like when I try to respond to a text from the quick reply in Notification Center and it vanishes mid response and I have to open the messages app back up and sometimes start over. Sometimes not. Makes no sense.
If I send my friend who has the 6s plus pictures through gmail she cannot see them. If I send them through stock LG email she can. Been to iStores. Nobody can help nor explain it. Their solution? I should buy an iPhone too so. I could send her pics more easily.

What gmail client have u used? Android or desktop? try sending from gmail via samsung browser as oppose to app itself, might need to be reconfigured.

If you have this issue, let me know(you can pm).

They are pretty good still, but not as good as the 8 + in my opinion. I would rate them 8 Plus > X > Pixel 2 XL.

Haha, I love that response. We shouldn't try and since a problem, we should just try and make u buy or product so you forget about the issue. Apple gets the extra money and less work!

If you want to see an exercise in exaggeration, check this out. Some people can at least agree that while one device is better than the other, they're still pretty close. Apparently comparing the iPhone X to anything current Android flagship is like comparing horse and buggy to a Lamborghini.

The middle sections of the comparison aren't too bad, but the beginning about the displays is flat out ridiculous, and the conclusion is way over the top.

Samsung is renowned for their displays, and made the display for the iPhone and makes them for TV's and other devices. Yet this guy says Apple took their Samsung displays and calibrated them such that the quality level is just on another planet than Samsung Galaxy displays. He just lost all credibility there.

I started to read that article today since it was in my news feed and only made it through the first paragraph. The odd thing is the Apple sheep will believe every word of it and insist their phones are so much better than Android. They have their head in the sand.

I'm restoring a classic musclecar, and I remember reading something about the back and forth between both the various carmakers, and also between the various fanboy camps. They said that these groups would argue with each other, making it seem like the difference was night and day, when in fact, quarter mile and 0-60 time differences were usually measured with yardsticks.

Sure, one may be better than the other, but we're not talking comparing 2 cans and a string vs a cordless phone. It's a shame that unbiased journalism never made it's way to the tech blogs. Anymore unbiased reporting and reviews are a myth and the reality is more cheerleading and finger pointing.

These threads remind me of why I stopped paying top dollar for smartphones. Because even the reigning champs of a solid smartphone are asking you for $1000+ for imperfect semi-troublesome electronics. Smartphones are literally the only electronic device I have ever purchased among appliances, HDTV's, etc that ask me to pay such high prices for such a poor reliability track record. So um... no thanks I'm not playing by your rules Samsung, Apple, whoever. 2 days ago I got a regular Pixel 2 for $180 on a 2 year contract. That's fair, glitches and all as far as I'm concerned. When Google/Samsung/Apple try to ask me for $500-$800 on contract for hardware that's all over tech news for issues, that's where I start to say no thanks. I'm sure any homeowner would agree that knocking a smartphone off of your list of annoyances to pay for addressing is sound logic.
