iPod mode on car stereo for Pixel

It doesn't work.

Not having Bluetooth (which I didn't have in my old car either), just get a good car mount -- I'd recommend ProClip, which would allow the phone to be mounted right next to the stereo -- and a short, thin stereo mini plug cable to plug into the AUX input.

The AUX input on my old car was under the center armrest, and I had to run the cable down onto the floor of the car and up the dash into my phone. Your AUX input would be right next to the mounted Pixel.

The only pain for me was having to plug the cable into my phone and unplug it continually. You're already used to doing that with the USB cable, so this solution is a no-brainer. There is no appreciable degradation in audio quality.

The only other option would be to dump your music onto a USB flash driver and plug it in with an OTG cable. That wouldn't help with wanting to listen to radio stations through your phone, though.

I'm going to get the cable better, the AUX cable.

I know with my Samsung s7 edge I have to use an AUX cable because ipod mode does not support anything but an iproduct.

Thanks. I will look into it. I really miss how my iPhone plays nice with my car stereo.

The AUX cable should be a simple plug and play. I'm sure the USB connection would be preferred, but it will work fine.

Is this really old? Never heard of iPod mode. I just use Bluetooth.

Yes this stereo I got it like in 2010 it replaced the factory stereo that came with my 2005 Corolla. I look forward on installing a new generation pioneer that have Apple car play.

No. It's not old. It's current and it's what Android Auto and Apple Car Play are trying to replace.

You must have never had a car with a USB port to the stereo.

I've trying to get my V20 to connect via USB. No dice. Settled with aux. Can't complain because it recognizes hifi from the quad dac. If you figure it out after you receive it please post. I'm sure it would be basically the same across the board with Android devices.

I was not able to connect my Pixel and what a great phone it is, but no luck. My kenwood systems reads NA Device (not available or not applicable). I will settle for an AUX cable. In the meantime I have been using my Pixel as a hot spot to connect my iPhone.

To give an update I found an old AUX cable and it works just fine. I have been able to listen to my radio stations as well as music apps.

We'll you can tell how old my stereo is at the time of iPods were still around.

It's still "iPod mode" today - or iPod integration, or Made for iPod/iPhone.

Either way, it's something Apple-specific built for iPods, iPhones, and iPads. And it's not compatible with anything else.

The USB port may also be able to read USB drives to play the media back. But it's a different "mode". But the Apple stuff is more common.

Probably a bad idea since Android is the #1 OS, and iOS use is shrinking with some caring less and less.

Probably a good idea when iOS does things one way and Android has a million ways to do it.

Yeah, that is one downside to Android. The car stereos use a proprietary Apple protocol. I have a Corolla with the factory Toyota head unit and I have the same issues. Fortunately it works over Bluetooth, so I can just stream my music that way without need for a cable.
