iris scanner not working on s8

hi i have an s8 and s9. on the s8 the iris scanner will not recognise my iris but is no problem on the s9

i got my wife to try scanning her iris and it worked ok on the s8

is it certain eyes it fails to recognise

I do not use the iris scanner but do have to periodically redo my finger prints on my Verizon S8.

My iris scanner has never worked. Tried it twice in 15 months, both times it failed, both times my eyes hurt after using it.
