Is 16GB's enough?

With Google Music I make a playlist ahead of time and "pin" it to my device making it available offline. This can be done on WiFi to avoid data use. Then it can be unpinned later. Basically it's a matter of managing what you NEED to be storing on your device at any given time.

For plane rides, throw on it what you think you'll use for that one in particular, then take it off after. I can't imagine you needed 10GB of media on your phone for a plane ride. But. Everyone is different.

Rabble rabble rabble.

My old habbits die hard. I like having 10 movies to chose from. I like having all my music locally and I like keeping as many videos of my kids as I can. I dont want to have to spend all my time managing what I have on my phone. I have the GS2 with 16gb on board and a 32 GB sd card. I can probably make due with the 32gb unlocked version, but 9.7 with no way to add additional? Its a non starter for me.

I posted this in another thread but it totally applies to this one as well:

I dunno, I think it's fine honestly. On my iPhone (16GB) right now: 856 songs (all of them are 320kbps MP3), 6 videos, 503 photos, 105 applications, Capacity: 13.7GB (I guess the OS takes like 2GB *shrug*), Available: 4.3GB. So that gives me 9.4GB of stuff I have on the phone. Seeing that now, I could get rid of some apps on here, especially ones I literally never use except when I first installed them lol. My entire music library on my computer is like 200GB+, I only put stuff I know I will listen to on the phone, no sense in having everything. And besides, Google Play will allow me to stream a ton more of the tracks I don't have on the phone but have uploaded to that service. Also, I have way too many pictures hahaha...

My point is, 10GB + 25GB of DropBox is plenty for me. YMMV, of course.

Should be enough storage for me. I have about 2.1 GB available on my 4S, and about 3.2 on my Galaxy Nexus GSM. I don't like putting whole albums on my phones. Just makes it a hassle to organize for me at least. If I need more variety then I usually just use Pandora or Slacker radio.

I used to store movies on my phone, but after a while I just ended up taking them off. I never watched them on my phone and they were just wasted space.

Should be good to go and if I run into any need for expanded space, I'll probably utilize Google Music, Dropbox, or Google Drive if that comes out.

Well that's what it comes down to. You could make it work, I have no doubts about that. But if you don't want to, then it just isn't the device for you. No problem with that.

Exactly correct. And in the case of the One X, I have the opportunity to buy the international version with 32GB of storage. For HTC though, I think it was a mistake. Nobody would complain if they had "too much" storage. But HTC has opened themselves up to walking customers becuase they allowed ATT to push them into a price point. At the end of the day, its HTC's name on the phone and that is who customers will be frustrated with. IMHO, HTC would have been better off having the X as their god device and then had the S at the lower more mainstream price point.

Yeah, these are great points. Especially for people always on the go, they won't want to spend time managing what's on their phone all of the time. It's true. I guess for my personal situation, though - I have a Transformer Prime that I basically use as a laptop (It's almost never out of its keyboard dock). It has 32GB of onboard storage plus another 32GB through its full-sized SD card, and if I really wanted even more space, I could add yet another 32GB through its micro-SD slot. Its screen and its viewing angles are amazing, not to mention the battery life - so I use this thing pretty much as the biggest, most portable and lightweight media consumption device I've ever had. For something like plane rides, it'd be easy for me to turn off its wifi and just consume a ton of local videos, music and pictures through it. Since I already have this usage case for my Prime, a phone like the LTE-powered HTC One X fits me perfectly fine; even though I'm upset with AT&T for being the sneaky little money-greedy b@stards they are for forcing HTC to lower the storage to increase fees for AT&T when customers go over. Another good point for my situation - I (currently) have an unlimited, grand-father data plan with them. No telling how much longer though.

I wonder if everybody realizes that if they stream pandora or google music they will most likely be throttled by the 3rd day of their monthly plan IF they have an unlimited data plan and most of us don't have one so dropbox and google music is an impossible replacement unless they are at home with wifi all the time. If that is then what's to point of having a smartphone? Just use your computer or tablet and stream iheartradio.-_____- This is the only time that I hope HTC screws us over and release a 32 GB version and call it HTC One XE (E stands for extra) like what happened with the Droid Razr. If this happens then I forgive HTC.

+1

Everyone that keeps saying "...but you have google music and dropbox!" is not paying attention to the facts most people have to deal with: Limited data plans and quite often crappy connection speeds.

Yes I could cut some mp3s down, get rid of all my videos, and manage my space better...

...but on a FLAGSHIP phone in 2012 this is a JOKE. The cost saved by using a 16GB vs 32GB card is paltry. Plus, these crooks could have done like Apple and charged us an extra $100 for the 32GB version but that's not an option?

This makes me angry because this phone is amazing otherwise. I'm not switching to Sprint. I don't want to import an international version with the slower Tegra quad core and lose LTE.

Use the cloud instead? Fake/expensive unlimited data plans + the fact that you can't take advantage of the cloud on airplanes, low-reception areas, etc. = not an alternative but a supplement.

I'm just hoping Samsung hooks it up tomorrow with a superior phone so I don't have to consider the stupid prospect of having 10GB of storage space on my flagship phone for the next two years.

Not that i agree with this, but i think they want you to manage what is on the device from "the cloud" while on wifi, then when you're off wifi you can listen to music/watch videos that are on your phone without utilizing your capped data.

I understand that tiered plans make using Spotify or Pandora difficult but I use Google Music without using data by pinning music while I'm at home on Wi-Fi.

The storage space I can deal with due to the cloud. I have plenty of other devices to load up with music, etc... However, the 2GB of application space I have a hard time with. Yes, I have a ton of apps and No, I do not need to install them all, but since I have purchased them, I want to install them.

One of the things I like about the GNex is that all of the sotrage on the phone can be used for whatever you would like (at least from what I have seen). I dont like being limited to 2GB of app space.

I am assuming since there is no expandable memory, once the 2GB is gone, its gone?

Thanks.

See, really, if I have to be near my WiFi, I'll just move my collection around whenever I need from my home PC. What's even the point of 25 gigs on dropbox and all my music on Google then? If you have to have WiFi (either because you have limited data and/or crappy connection speed) to make this whole operation practical, you can do it from home without all these 'services'.

IMO it can be enough but it simply depends on your needs. It's probably enough for most of your average users too. I think the BS they are selling by telling people to stream is simply a greedy make more money move. I'm still on an unlimited plan so I could care less but 2gb of streaming can go very fast.

16gb however not enough for me but I use my phone for a little of everything, work and entertainment. I installed a game the other day that had an additional 800mb or so download. If you're putting stuff like that on your phone, 16gb is going to disappear fast.

For the One series they should have done 32gb. I think it was a big miss but on the other hand the phone will sell well I imagine and that's all that matters to the companies in the end. As an alternative I wonder if they had done 8gb with a memory card slot if the reception would be better.

My phone has 32gb and it seems to be a sweet spot. I can put a decent amount of music, photos, videos and games without worry. I would still prefer it had the memory card slot but that seems to be slowly going away. The plus compared to my last phone with the memory slot is there is almost zero load time when the phone boots up, no more card scans or mounting and un-mounting. I would have paid the extra money though for a 64gb Nexus, hopefully next time around.

So wait...this phone only has 16GB internal space and NO SD support?!?!? I assumed when I read it was 16GB that it also included a SD card slot...

I'm actually shocked. I was a bit envious of AT&T subscribers for getting this, but now I'm happy to wait a bit longer for something else.

Extra cloud storage is great, but what happens when I'm trying to watch a movie on a plane, or listen to music while riding in the subway (which is when I usually do listen to music on my phone)? Hard to access my dropbox account when I'm in airplane mode or have no signal.

Heck, probably about 25% of my SD card now is used for Nandroid backups -- pretty hard to access those over the cloud when I'm in CWM trying to do a restore. (Although I'm sure HTC/AT&T don't really care too much about that concern).

Also, FWIW, 2GB of *app storage* should be more than adequate, IMO. I don't have an issue with that.

16 is more than enough for me

I had a galaxy nexus w/ 2 CWM backups , few roms , all my apps etc and still had 10 gb left.

Google music has all my music (never have problems w/ the stream and also caches most of it)

Apps only took up a gig or so , I dont play to many games so that doesnt effect me really.
photos auto upload to g+ and I have netflix for streaming.

Now if I didnt have my unlimited data w/ att my stance on this would be completely different. However I do , so doesnt effect me.

I just saw the new htc music hub and it looks pretty slick. Reminds me of the music hub in wp7 which I love. Doesn't anyone know if the htc music app will tie in your google music library? If so that'd be amazing.

16gb is definitely not enough for me. I have a 64gb card in my phone plus 16 gb of internal storage. I have about 25 gigs of just music, plus 100's of pictures, videos and a couple movies. Sure, there are cloud services but not all of us have grandfathered unlimited data and streaming music alone would quickly eat up my 4gb of data. The only having 16gb and no sd card slot is the ONLY reason why I would never buy this phone
