Is 3a xl an upgrade to pixel 2 xl?

Based on specs and reviews the 3a xl seems like more of a lateral move than a upgrade from a 2xl which still feels like a premium phone. Still might buy one as a backup. Don't mind the plastic, no gorilla glass and specs when it's priced under $500.

Apparently the Pixel 4 might not even have any buttons >_<

Not sure how that’ll work unless the pressure areas are clearly marked.

I also read about that! Not sure how I feel about that. It may be cool - I'll just have to try it out in the stores when it launches to find out how I feel about it!

I was all set to trade in my pixel 2xl for the 3a xl. Just received the 3a xl and I must say I prefer the 2 xl. Besides, I dropped the phone right out of the box and it fell about two feet and slid across a wood floor. Two scratches now on the front, so this dragon glass or what ever its called is a poor substitute to gorilla glass. The only real advantage of the 3a is that its newer and will be officially supported longer. But I'm returning the 3a xl and staying with the 2 xl. Just hope the scratches won't effect the return.

Just an update if anyone is interested in google's customer care. Got an email about my full return being processed. So it seems the two scratches weren't held against the return. But I won't know for sure until the refund clears. Maybe because they skimped with not using gorilla glass.

Keep us posted on what happens!

I agree. If there aren’t any buttons I hope the area is clearly marked...and what about accidental touches (e.g in a pocket)? Maybe they could so something similar to what Apple did with the iPhone 7?

I think that button-free sounds more interesting with time ... what did Apple do with the Iphone 7??

Hopefully doing things like placing it in a car mount won't trigger the buttons. I had to disable the squeeze function because of it.

Accidental touches would be a bit of an issue. That would bother me, I think. But I guess you'd get used to how to hold it in time?

We really can't complain too much about weird new design trends.... because we as consumers demand change just for the sake of change, even if something's working great as is.

We want constant change, but complain when something's changed for the worse....... but then also complain when well working designs aren't changed because "it's too boring".

No wonder phone manufacturers struggle to give consumers what they want, because consumers don't know what they want, they just want constant change to keep them from "getting bored" :-[
I personally like a well thought out, refined over time device that does what it's supposed to and does it well. I don't like change just for the sake of change...... I think it's a pain in the azz. I know I'm in the minority though ;-)

Instead of having a physical home button that clicks, they kept the capacitive fingerprint sensor but made it fixed (can’t be clicked) and had a haptic engine underneath (so it vibrates).

I agree also.

Thanks! Vibrate works ... no problem with something not clicking.
