is a home screen picture recoverable as a photo if it's been removed from the gallery?

my home screen has a picture that i would like to send. But it's not in the gallery or any other location. How can i access it and save in a portable (jpg, or similar) format?

Depending on your device, you could add another blank home screen, then take a screenshot, then crop it.
