Verizon Galaxy S8 Is anybody able to get "OK Google" to unlock their S8 or S8+?

Security.
If locked, it's locked.
If someone steals your phone, all they would have to do is say "OK, Google" and it unlocks for them to get at all your stuff.
I am sure then Samsung would be blamed for selling unsecure devices.
I have no problem with it the way it is.

No. You can add your voice as a trusted voice so it'll work for you and no one else.

You can do it while it is charging, so I don't doubt it.

I can't. So if you can, please tell me your secret. Seriously. Please do.

Completely inaccurate.

OK people. I get the point.
Wish I was as perfect as you think you are.
Glad you were never wrong about anything.
Thanks for being jerks about it.

Hello,

Go into the "Ok Google" detection section section of the Google app settings and set it up. I attached a screenshot for you. It will then unlock, with the screen off, while it is charging either with a cable or wireless.

I totally understand how you feel Mav. I have been there myself😕

Phone locked and plugged in and "Ok Google" unlocked it and went to Google Assistant. I think maybe it worked because the room is pretty quiet, but for the most part it worked. Wish it didn't have to be plugged in though.

i think it needs to be plugged in so that the battery does not die in a few hours as the phone is constantly recording the sound around it and looking for your "ok google" command to compare it with the set pattern.
well maybe more than a few hours but still a lot of drain.
we could probably test this by using a sound recording app running continuously with the screen off

Tap the power button once and say "Ok Google". It'll work then. It doesn't work otherwise. You don't even have to look at your phone to push the power button while driving.

I wasn't being a jerk.. I simply explained how it works :P.

Re: Is anybody able to get "OK Google" to unlock their S8 or S8+?

Have had it set like that from Day 1.
If you already have it setup that way then I am not sure why it does not work for you. There are no other settings to make it work. Are you using a package disabler or anything like that?

This might be the game-changer for me, if I cannot get it to function properly. I have it set up for "OK Google" voice detection to unlock my Verizon S8+, but it refuses to work. It's especially frustrating when I'm driving and I want to use voice control to play music, or compose a text without having to touch the phone. It's a function that works without fail on my iPhone with Siri and my Pixel XL with "OK Google." I don't use "OK Google" (or Siri) for much, but music and text while driving are musts.

I wonder if Google's Android Auto app might be a workaround. No, your car does not need to support it.

I don't have the S8 but with other Samsung phones you're forced to use S Voice if you want to wake the phone up without touching it, they support always listening, just not for Google. My S7 and Note 5 are that way.

I do love the "wave your hand over the device" set-up to get it to the lock screen.
Very useful while driving, etc.
Very Jedi.

I want my phone to activate when I say "It's Morphin Time" How do I do this? :)

My S8+ seems to exhibit behavior quite opposite to what's been described in this thread. With the screen off (AOD) and charger plugged in, ok Google does nothing. However, if I press the power button once, ok Google will activate.

However, the same holds true regardless whether the phone is connected to a charger or not. Unplugged, ok Google will activate if I press the power button once.

Where is this setting? I can't find it...
It"s not really a setting.
When the screen is off and/or you see the AOD, wave your hand above the top of the screen, in front of the sensor, and it comes on.
Let me know if it works for you.
