Is anyone on Project Fi yet?

Hey everyone.

I wanted to share a tip. Project fi is actually hands down AMAZING. You just have to utilize it right.

I made 2 contacts in my phone contacts called
"Switch to tmobile" and "Switch to sprint"

Switching to tmobile code is *#*#34866#*#*
Switching to sprint is *#*#34777#*#*

What I do is if my data speeds are slow and Fi has not switched me for whatever reason I'll just copy one of the codes and paste into dialer and just switch over to the other network

I mean just think about that. NOBODY can do that being on a standalone carrier.

I've been doing that and it's like I have the best of 2 carriers. When I'm in different areas here in northern VA I just switch to the other carrier. And my speeds are beast at all times.

You might also set up another contact called "Auto", the code is *#*#342886#*#* This will tell Fi to go back to automatically switching carriers.

The only problem with that, I dont want to check speeds and switch every-time i use the phone. Its supposed to work automatically. Tmobile offers better coverage and clearer voice calls at this point.

I'm having trouble with Fi at my work place on a 6P. I thought we were supposed to have wifi calling with Fi, however i've not been able to access it. According to the info I googled, I should have a wifi calling setting (not just SIP setting) that allows me to turn it on in the stock phone settings. Can anyone offer any insight as to what may be going on? TIA.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

In order for wifi calling to work, you have to install the google hangouts app and it's updates, project fi app, and also enable wifi data. You should also update google services and google + for best service. the project fi app uses google hangouts and google plus code to manage and establish the sip phone calls. Hope this helps. had the same fun on a 6 until I updated hangouts and installed the apps.

Thanks again for the help dragonmanus. After re-enabling Hangouts, I put the phone into airplane mode and turned wifi back on then made the call. Went through and sounded great. I searched around to see if there are any settings governing receiving calls using wifi calling. Is there a setting I should be looking for in particular?

Developer mode has some additional options, but my phone is using 5.11 so I can't help you as to where to look exactly. But if you were able to place a outgoing call and it was clear and stable you should be fine already. your phone will receive incoming calls now that your using the google hangouts link. when it loses wifi it will search for cell signal. Glad to be help with the issue. Had the same fun myself after uninstalling hangouts at first. Enjoy your newfound fi freedom.

Thx. Inbound & outbound calls sound great on the WiFi. So far work is the only place I'm having issues cellular issues. Got a nice strong connection via Tmo at my mom's in NJ, so I'm 😊.
