Is Big Really Better?

A phone that fits in your pocket and palm are reasonable ~ 5 inch
6.5 inch Phablets are so weird.

Bigger phones are great for those who can't see well (albeit many phones have a zoom option anyway). But that's a small minority of people, so it doesn't explain the craze over larger screens.

I think it might have something to do with the precedent that the iPad and other tablets set. Remember the buzz? After that, a tablet/phone hybrid--a "phablet"--probably seemed appealing just by virtue of its resemblance to a tablet.

I remember a time when the smallest phones were the trendiest. Who knows what factors influence these trends. Perhaps the lunar cycle.

Bigger is better...

If done in a right way. LG G3.

I sound like a broken record but LG has the right mind set taking a 5.5" and squeezing it all down.

A bigger screen is nicer for games, videos, even reading. It makes perfect sense then that the biggest screen size that most people are still comfortable carrying becomes predominant. It's just too bad that seems to mean that those who prefer to go smaller are underserved.

I'm a computer scientist and I enjoy big screens if they have good resolutions.
On small screens the items get's too small and you more often have to zoom in to press on something on a website or similar. It's also a lot more for when watching video's and playing games on it. Only downside is holding it with one hand and operating it with the same hand. That can be little difficult. I do it with putting my pink underneath the phone so it doesn't slide off my hand while reaching further on the screen with my thumb. so yeah.

But it the end, it still remains a personal preference. So I'd say people should go to a phone store and see for themselves

Well, a lot of middle aged and older ppl have changing vision, not so few.
I'm one of them. But still: My pockets are only so big, and I'm unwilling to carry a murse or strap on a fanny pack just to carry a phone.

Personally I think some of it's a bragging rights game by manufacturers and (some? many?) buyers. "Hey look at how big my screen is and how many pixels my screen has!"

Lol, you just got me to laugh, I don't know if I've heard that before (murse!). But there's a lot of truth to what you're saying. As a home phone I like a big phone but for carrying with me I like my Nexus 5 or even smaller. Just so I worry less about dropping it.

I don't think it is only an eyesight issue. You can have great eyesight and still be uncomfortable with the scuba goggle experience of using a small screen.

Yes, I think larger screens appeal to those who use apps on their mobile devices for work. As well as video games. Or those who just want to better see what's on the screen. Most phones have a zoom option, but who wants to zoom all the time?

That's what iPhone 6+'s bigger screen is all about. Stealing that demographic from Samsung and other "phablet" providers. They're a little late.
Lol, yes! I'd bet a huge segment of that demographic has been buying Note series phones. The nice thing about those is they still have SD slots and removable battery. I'd say that tends to extend the life of a device far beyond the first two years as long as the owner doesn't drop the device a lot. It offers a decent value for the high price. That's one benefit of Samsung devices. So probably the older crowd would additionally value those things. Unless a person is obsessed with status, there's no great reason to buy an iPhone.

ETA: I am still hoping more manufacturers will add SD slots from now on. I was really glad HTC added it to the M8 but I don't remember if they added removable battery. That's even more important to device longevity.

"Is big really better?"

Answer: Depends... Do you care about it? For some yes .. for some no.
